Colette Trailer – Keira Knightley takes on a bisexual French legend

September 25, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Unconventional country girl Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette has married a charismatic egomaniacal man of letters, 14 years her senior, known by the single name, Willy.  Through his auspices, Colette is introduced into the fecund world of the artistic demimonde in Paris where her creative appetite is sparked. Ever quick to capitalise on talent, Willy permits Colette to write her novels only if she does so in his name. The phenomenal success of her Claudine series makes Willy a famous writer and Colette and Willy the first modern celebrity couple. Although they are the toast of the town, lack of recognition for her work begins to gnaw on Colette. Their marriage starts to internally combust – but emotionally and artistically, she cannot break free of him. On a downward slide, Willy resorts to increasingly desperate measures to pay his debts and sabotage his wife but Colette is developing resources of her own.

‘Set at the dawn of the modern age, COLETTE is the story of a woman who has been denied her voice by an overbearing man, and who goes to extraordinary lengths to find it; a battle of the sexes at the very beginning of the modern age, when seismic shifts were taking place in the roles of men and women. More than a century after the publication of her first novel, Colette is still one of the best-selling, and beloved, French authors.’

The film apparently doesn’t shy away from Colette’s sexuality, which saw her have love affairs with both men and women. She married three times but also had a strong desire for sexual independence and for other women.

The film is out in the US this week and will arrive in the UK January 2019, following it’s screenings at the London Film Festival in October. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New The Girl In The Spider’s Web Trailer – Claire Foy becomes Lisbeth Salander

September 24, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Sony has said they were going to produce a sequel, but they took a long time to decide exactly what they were going to do. Now it’s on its way, with Rooney Mara gone and The Crown actress Claire Foy taking over as Lisbeth Salander in a role that’s very different from her Netflix series persona.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller. Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, the star of “The Crown,” will play the outcast vigilante defender under the direction of Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016’s breakout thriller Don’t Breathe; the screenplay adaptation is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.’

The movie is due out Novermber 9th. Take a look at the trailer and first poster below. [Read more…]

1985 Trailer – Gotham’s Cory Michael Smith stars in a black & white look at the early days of the AIDS crisis

September 10, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Malaysian born director Yen Tan has made several gay-themed films, but he’s certainly getting a lot more attention for 1985, the feature-length version of his own 2016 short film. Indeed, following its first film festival screenings, it currently has a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 16mm black and white movie follows, ‘A closeted young man goes who home for the holidays and struggles to reveal his dire circumstances to his conservative family.’ As you may have guessed by its title, 1985 takes us back to a world that was just hearing about HIV and AIDS for the first time, and where gay people who were just taking there first steps towards acceptance were suddenly faced with an immense, terrifying and largely unknowable threat.

A very good cast includes Cory Michael Smith, Virginia Madsen, Michael Chiklis and Jamie Chung. The movie is due in US cinemas on October 26th. No UK date is currently set. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

The Breeding Trailer – Not many gay-themed films have their lead actor facing murder charges

September 10, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To be honest, there’d probably be less interest in The Breeding if it weren’t for the fact one of its leads, Marcus Bellamy, is facing murder charges. The film, from the makers of the web series Drama Queenz, was shortly shortly before the death of Bellamy’s boyfriend, who Marcus admitted killing in a Facebook post shortly after it happened.

The film is ‘An erotic thriller about a young artist whose obsession with a taboo fetish leads to life altering consequences.’ Obviously those behind it never knew how real-life events would overtake their movie.

Director Daniel Armando told Raynbowaffair, “Never could any of us have imagined that something like this would happen. Dane and Marcus went to high school together. Dane introduced Marcus to Manhattan when Marcus first started at Juilliard. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for Dane and everyone in the cast, reconciling what our friend has done and sending prayers to the family affected by the tragedy. We’re still piecing it all together and, more than anything, want to send positive love and light to everyone impacted.”

Take a look at the trailer below. The film started screening at select US cinemas last week and will be on VoD from September 11th. [Read more…]

Sauvage Trailer – The gay prostitute movie that divided Cannes

September 10, 2018 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

I’m always a bit dubious about reports that a film prompted walkouts, as it can’t help but sound like a marketing ploy. However, there were apparently quite a few people who didn’t get through to the end of the screenings of Sauvage at Cannes, due to its graphic approach to its story.

However, many of the reviewers who did watch it all the way through praised its honesty, even is they did say it’s sometimes tough to watch.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Leo is 22 and sells his body on the street for a bit of cash. The men come and go, and he stays right here – longing for love. He doesn’t know what the future will bring. He hits the road. His heart is pounding.’

No UK release date has currently been set. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

The Favourite Trailer – Olivia Colman & Emma Stone have a royal lesbian tryst

September 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the recent screening of The Favourite in competition at the Venice Film Festival, Olivia Colman & Emma Stone couldn’t help but gush about how much fun they had having sex with one another. After being asked about the sexual politics of the 18th Century royal drama, Colman said, “Sexual politics? There was lots of it, and that’s good. That’s timeless, I suppose. That will always happen. It’s as though we think we invented sex, but we didn’t, it’s been going on for quite a long time. And it was awfully fun having sex with Emma Stone.”

Stone then replied, “It was really fun having sex with you too. It was very comfortable.”

Although just in case anyone took the comment a bit too literally, she said, “We didn’t really!”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

The trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can take a look at below. The Favourite is released in UK Cinemas on January 1st, 2019.
