Lily Tomlin May Marry Her Partner Jane Wagner While Dressed Like A Chicken!

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jane-wagner-lily-tomlinLily Tomlin may have spent much of her career halfway out of the closet, but she’s out and proud now. She’s also been with the same woman, Jane Wagner, for 42 years. Now the latest movements in the gay marriage debate in the US seem to have gotten her thinking about her own potential nuptials.

She tells E! that she never expected same-sex marriage to become legal in her lifetimes. Now that the Supreme Court has struck down Prop. 8, the California-living couple are considering their options.

“You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice,” Tomlin said. “Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it.”

However she certainly doesn’t want anything to be traditional. “No rings, no bridal dresses,” she added. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.”

The Butler Director Lee Daniels Suggests Black Men Still Can’t Come Out

August 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lee-danielsThere aren’t many African American directors working in Hollywood and even fewer openly gay African American directors. However Lee Daniels, whose risen up the Tinsel Town ranks with Precious, The Paperboy and now the number one box office hit The Butler, has bucked that trend.

He recently spoke to Larry King about his movie and his experiences as a black gay man. Daniels suggests it still very tough being gay in the black community, with plenty of pressure on you not to be open about who you are.

“Black men can’t come out,” he says. “Why? Because you simply can’t do it. Your family says it. Your church says it. Your teachers say it. Your parents say it. Your friends say it. Your work says it. So you’re living on this ‘DL’ thing and you’re infecting black women. And its killing us. The black culture and the hispanic culture have a thing about [homosexuality].”

Scenes From A Gay Marriage Sequel Needs Your Help

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jared Allman from Scenes From A Gay Marriage

Jared Allman & Matt Riddlehoover in Scenes From A Gay Marriage

Back in June, a sequel to Matt Riddlehoover’s Scenes From A Gay Marriage was announced. Now the movie, More Scenes From A Gay Marriage, is looking for funding to find the final cash needed to get the film made. It’s currently running a campaign on Indiegogo and has already raised a good chunk of the $5,000 it needs, but it’s still got some cash to raise.

The movie ‘picks up two years after the original left off. A gay-themed film (starring Charlie David and Rett Terrell) has been made about how Darren (Matt Riddlehoover) and Joe (Jared Allman) met and fell in love. As a result of the film’s success, Darren and Joe begin to question whether their domestic partnership is as exciting or romantic as what led up to it…’

Thashana McQuiston will be reprise her role as Darren’s sharp-tongued gal pal Luce, while Rodiney Santiago will also co-star as a sexy male masseur.

You can take a look at what we thought of Scenes From A Gay Marriage here, which should whet your apettite to ensure a follow-up gets made. Head over to Indiegogo for more info, including what goodies are on offer to those who donate.

Kristen Wiig May Have A Nasty Baby In A Gay-Themed Indie Drama

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kristen-wiigIf Hollywood had its way, Kristen Wiig would just make Bridesmaids clones and sequels, but she’s not interested in that – indeed she turned down a huge deal to write and star in the follow-up to her breakout movie hit. Now she’s hoping show off he dramatic skills, as TheWrap reports that she’s circling the gay-themed indie drama Nasty Baby.

It won’t be her first drama, as a few years ago she took a small role in All Good Things, but this one would put her front and centre. Writer/director Sebastian Silva and TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe are set to play Freddy and Mo, ‘a gay couple who are trying to have a baby with the help of their best friend Anna, who would be played by Wiig if a deal closes…’

‘Freddy is an artist whose latest work is all about babies. Anna is a family practitioner who is more interested in having a baby than having a man. Mo is hesitant about the entire idea, especially when Anna isnʼt having success with Freddyʼs sperm and the donor responsibility shifts to him.’

Nothing has been signed, as although Wiig wants to do the movie, they’re still to sort out details (not least her schedule). Alia Shawkat, Mark Margolis and Denis O’Hare are all being eyed for supporting roles.

Rob Williams Is Out To Kill For His Latest Gay-Themed Film, & He Needs Your Help

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-williamsRob Williams has become a bit of a one-man gay-themed film industry, having made the likes of Three Day Weekend, Make The Yuletide Gay, Role/Play and The Men Next Door. Now he’s announced his seventh movie, which will be as LGBT-friendly as his earlier movies, as he’s planning a gay murder mystery, which is currently going by the title Out To Kill.

A press release from Williams company, Guest House Films (which he co-founded with Rodney Johnson in 2005), says, ‘Out To Kill is an intricate and witty “whodunit” murder mystery centered around a group of gay men living in a Florida loft complex. When one of their own is found dead in the building’s central courtyard, his neighbors enlist the help of Jim Noble, the resident private eye, to track down the killer. With its surprise ending and tropical location, the film offers a sexy, gay twist to the traditional murder mystery.’

The current plan is to start shooting in November in in Tampa, Florida. It’s a bit of a change for Guest House, who’ve made all the rest of their movies in Southern California.

“The people of Tampa and St. Petersburg have always been extremely supportive of our films, and have often offered to help if we ever decided to shoot a film in the area,” said Williams. “So I returned to Florida earlier this year, found some great locations, and then wrote the script with Tampa in mind.”

In order to help raise funds for Out To Kill, Guest House Films has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.  The campaign includes unique rewards such as the opportunity to name characters in the movie, pieces of original artwork that will be used in the film, and even a VIP Las Vegas experience with the Guest House Films founders. The line-up for this year’s Iris Prize has been released. The LGBT short film prize list is dominated by the US, who’ve taken nine of the 30 slots, with four Australian shorts included and 12 other countries (Canada, Germany, Brazil, Israel, France, Norway, Austria, Ireland, India, Sweden, Thailand and the UK) also represented.

The shortlist also includes the first short from a filmmaker based in the Iris Prize’s home city of Cardiff, with Jay Bedwani making the international shortlist with his film My Mother.

The eclectic list includes a celebration of everything ginger and male, the fears of a father with the sexual awakening of his teenager son living with Down’s syndrome, the alarming increases in secondary school bullying and a forced coming out story while shopping for a new bed.

The Iris Prize is the world’s largest international gay and lesbian short film prize, with the winner offered a chance to make a new short film with the prize valued at £25,000. The films will screen during this year’s Iris Prize Festival which takes place from October 9th-13th in Cardiff.

“Once again the shortlist for the Iris Prize represents the best of the best. Half of the short-listed films have been nominated by our partner festivals – film festivals from around the world that have their fingers on the pulse of upcoming gay and lesbian filmmaking talent. I’m confident that amongst this year’s shortlist we have yet another winner deserving of the Iris Prize,” said Berwyn Rowlands, Iris Prize founder.

Take a look below for the full shortlist, and you can find out more over at the Iris Prize website. [Read more…]

Mr. Angel Trailer – Inside the life of trangender advocate (and porn star) Buck Angel

August 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Buck-Angel
There aren’t many porn stars who can be said to be inspiring, but Buck Angel can. Born female, Buck transitioned to male in early adulthood but has never had any genital surgery. When he started in porn he termed himself ‘the man with a Pussy’, which could have led to interest in him purely being about his unusualness.

However Angel has worked hard to show that he is a man even if he doesn’t have a penis, and while there’s no doubt he’s been fetishised to a degree, he’s done it on his own terms. He’s also used his fame to become a staunch transgender advocate, challenging perceptions of what it is to be a transman or woman, and promoting the idea of trans people as sexual beings in their own right and not just for the voyeuristic eyes of others (even if he had worked in porn). The new documentary Mr. Angel looks at Buck and his life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Shot over six years, Mr. Angel chronicles the extraordinary life of transgender advocate, educator and porn pioneer, Buck Angel. Buck has survived addiction, homelessness, suicide and relentless opposition to his gender expression. Still, he lives his truth without compromise or apology.

‘This feature length documentary explores Buck’s moving story to understand the complexities of someone who overcame incredible obstacles, then shamelessly sought the spotlight and its backlash, to share his message of empowerment. An inspirational story of rare perseverance and an unlikely hero.’ [Read more…]

Kevin Zegers Talks About His Gay Character In The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mortal-instuments-kevin-zegers
You don’t often get gay character in major mainstream movies, except perhaps playing the fool in romantic comedies. However, after the very straight worlds of Twilight and The Hunger Games, the upcoming The Mortal Instuments: City Of Bones is shaking things up in the young adult world with the inclusion of the gay Alec Lightwood, played by 28-year-old Kevin Zegers.

Now the recently married actor has been talking to Bello, via E!, about the role and his attitude towards gay characters in major movies like this. “The thing that I didn’t want was for him to be some generic, prototypical character, what people would expect from the gay character,” Zegers said. “For me, it was about creating a character whose sexuality didn’t matter…I actually don’t think it’s that big of a fucking issue anymore. Certainly not with me, and especially not with the generation that read this book. So it wasn’t something that we really focused on.

“But one thing I was aware of was the fact that there haven’t been many great examples of a really strong gay character, one of the leads in a really big movie who happens to be gay and who’s also kind of a bad-ass.”

The movie is about Clary Fray (Lily Collins), who thinks she is an ordinary teenager until she discovers that she’s part of a secret cadre of half-angel warriors – the Shadowhunters – who are tasked with protecting humanity in an ancient battle against demonic forces.

When Clary’s mother is kidnapped, she discovers a secret connection to fellow Shadowhunter Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower) and that beneath surface of the city exists another world…one she unknowingly belongs to. As both Clary and best friend Simon (Robert Sheehan) are drawn into this dark and dangerous world, Clary realises Jace is both the key to uncovering her past and protecting her future.

Assuming the movie follows Cassandra Clare’s books, Alec is another Shadowhunter. He starts out being in denial (at least publicly) about his sexuality, which makes him rather angry. He’s initially attracted to Jace, but later in the series, when he realises his feelings will never be returned, he starts to date and falls in love with Magnus Bane, a warlock who is immortal and 800 years old.

We also have to say, Zegers is looking good on the Bello cover! [Read more…]
