First Look At A Shirtless Michael Fassbender In Jo Nesbo’s The Snowman

February 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Author Jo Nesbo has sold millions of novels, but while his works have been made into Scandinavian TV shows and movies, he’s only just now making the jump to Hollywood. It’s with an adaptation The Snowman, featuring Nesbo most popular character, detective Harry Hole.

Michael Fassbender is set to play the main character, and now the first picture of him in the role has arrived via Total Film.

Joe Nesbo’s novel follows Oslo detective Hole, a loose cannon who is investigating the disappearance of a woman, whose pink scarf is found wrapped around a sinister-looking snowman. The hope is that this will be the start of a franchise, as Hole has been part of numerous Nesbo books. Rebecca Ferguson, J.K. Simmons, Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer, James D’Arcy, and Toby Jones also star, with Tomas Alfredson directing. The film is due out in November.

Nicole Kidman & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Are Up For Aquaman

February 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Warner/DC universe has been having a few difficulties, with The Flash losing its director and getting a total rewrite, Ben Affleck deciding not to helm The Batman (and some saying he’d like to stop being the Caped Crusader entirely), and rumours that Wonder Woman is a mess. However, with Justice League set for November 2017 and Aquaman heading into theatres just under a year later (The Flash is supposed to come between them, but its release date is currently up in the air), it’s full-steam-ahead on the film about Jason Momoa’s watery superhero.

The cast has just grown, with THR reporting that Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are both in talks to join Aquaman. Nothing’s been signed yet, but Abdul-Mateen (The Get Down) is being eyed to play the villainous Black Manta. Kidman meanwhile would be Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna.

There have been various versions and backstories for Black Manta, but usually he originated on the land, before ending up with enhanced powers and a suit of armour that makes him almost invulnerable, and also allows him to be as comfortable in the oceans as he is on land. He has long been Aquaman’s arch-enemy. Atlanna meanwhile is a Queen/Princess of Atlanta, who fell for a human and got pregnant with the child who would later become Aquaman.

The movie is due to start shooting in Australia in April, with James Wan directing. Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe and Patrick Wilson will also star.

Leonardo DiCaprio Will Be Getting Involved With The Black Hand

February 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like Leonardo DiCaprio is hoping to do some sleuthing, as he’s teamed up with Paramount to produce and star in an adaptation of Stephan Talty’s book, The Black Hand. It could be an interesting one as it’s based on the true story of man nicknamed the ‘Italian Sherlock Holmes.’

Variety reports that The Black Hand will be about, ‘the origins of the mafia in America’, following Joe Petrosino, ‘an NYPD cop who goes after the ruthless gang in the early 190os. The thugs (with the calling card black hand) migrated from Italy to America, and kidnapped people to extort money from their families. They were loathed by law-abiding Italian families who were frightened, but nevertheless helped Petrosino behind the scenes.’

There’s no news on when we might get to see the movie, and it might be a while and DiCaprio is known for taking his time developing new films. Hopefully it won’t be too long though.

Diego Luna Will Be The New Scarface, But Director Antoine Fuqua Is Out

January 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although nobody has asked for a remake of Scarface, for several years Hollywood has been working on one. However, at least some talent has been involved, with Harry PaDavid Yates producing (and thinking about directing) and Pablo Larraín thinking about directing, before Antoine Fuqua signed on to helm.

However, Fuqua is now out, but that isn’t holding things up, as Variety reports that Diego Luna has signed on to play the title role in the movie. Fuqua apparently left as there’s no time in his schedule to make both Scarface and The Equalizer 2, and Sony is keen to keep to the September 2018 release date they’ve already set.

Luna is just coming off the success of Rogue One, and Scarface could be a good way to capitalise on that. Now Sony will need to find a replacement fairly quickly, so they can start shooting in a few months time.

New Beauty & The Beast Trailer – The live-action take on a tale as old as time gets magical

January 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s looking increasingly clear that Disney has a huge hit on its hands with its live-action version of Beauty and the Beast – assuming the film is as good as it looks, of course. The final trailer for the movie has now been released, which once more shows us plenty of classic moments from the 1991 animated movie recreated with Emma Watson as Belle and a CG-covered Dan Stevens as the Beast.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

‘Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.’

The film will in in cinemas in March. [Read more…]

January 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Ocean’s franchise is coming back, but George Clooney, Brad Pitt and co. won’t be around this turn (although Matt Damon will show up for a cameo), with the action moving across to an octet of women who are getting into the heist game. The movie is now shooting and the first image from the film has been released, as you can see above.

It has to be said though, the ladies don’t look like they’re having a lot of fun in the pic.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The tide has turned and it’s a whole new “Ocean’s” when eight women plan and execute a heist in New York. Oscar winner Sandra Bullock stars in the title role, alongside Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter.  Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gary Ross is directing.

Ross directs from a screenplay he wrote with Olivia Milch (upcoming “Dude”), with Steven Soderbergh and Jon Kilik producing, Michael Tadross, Susan Ekins, Sandra Bullock, Diana Alvarez and Bruce Berman executive producing, and Milch co-producing.  Filming is taking place in and around New York City.

‘Collaborating with Ross behind the scenes are director of photography Eigil Bryld (“In Bruges,” “Not Fade Away”), production designer Alex DiGerlando (“Beasts of the Southern Wild,” HBO’s “True Detective”), editor Juliette Welfling (“Free State of Jones,” “The Hunger Games”), costume designer Sarah Edwards (“Tower Heist,” Showtime’s “Billions”), and composer Nicholas Britell (“The Big Short,” “Free State of Jones”).

‘The film is set for release in Summer 2018 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.’

January 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown Signs On For Godzilla 2

January 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After 2014’s Godzilla grossed over $500 million around the world, a sequel was quickly put into the works. However, it’s taken them a while to get everything sorted out, but now things are moving forward, with Michael Dougherty directing, and the first cast member being announced.

Naomie Harris Will Star Alongside Dwayne Johnson In Monster Movie Rampage

January 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hollywood is still keen to adapt videogames, even though few have been particularly successful and quite a lot had been horrific flops. However, you have to wonder what’s going on when they decided it would be a good idea to make a big-budget movie out of a computer game from 1986 – Rampage.

It becomes easier to understand when you realise it’ll give them a chance to have ‘a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile and wolf’ wreaking havoc on American cities and landmarks, and Dwayne Johnson’s already agreed to star in it. Now THR reports that he’s been joined by Naomie Harris, who just yesterday scored her first Oscar nomination, for Moonlight (she was previously best known as the latest Moneypenny in the Bond movies).

Johnson is set to be an animal lover who becomes the world’s only hope to stop the rampaging animals, while Harris will be a morally upright geneticist. She apparently signed on to star after enjoying the ‘fun tone of the script’.

Bray Peyton, who worked with Johnson on both San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, is set to direct the movie. Rampage will be in cinemas on April 20th, 2018.

Jacob Tremblay Joins Shane Black’s Predator Reboot

January 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you’re going to make a Predator movie, you wouldn’t think cute kids would be top of the casting list. But hey, it worked with Newt in Aliens, and now Robert Rodgriguez’s The Predator is getting a child star, as Jacob Tremblay has signed on to the movie, according to THR.

The breakout Room actor joins the likes of Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown and Thomas Jane in the film. Tremblay will play, ‘the son of Holbrook’s character, an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but finds that no one believes they exist’.

Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is writing and directing the film. The Predator is due to start filming in Vancouver in February.
