Nocturnal Animals Trailer – Amy Adams & Jake Gyllenhaal star in Tom Ford’s film

September 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amy-adams-nocturnal-animalsTom Ford’s movie Nocturnal Animals has been getting good reviews at film festivals, and it won’t be too long until we’ll get to see the movie for ourselves. To whet our appetites, a teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in “Nocturnal Animals.”

‘Susan Morrow, a Los Angeles art dealer (portrayed by Ms. Adams), lives an incredibly privileged yet unfulfilled life with her husband Hutton Morrow (Armie Hammer). One weekend, as Hutton departs on one of his too-frequent business trips, Susan receives an unsolicited package that has been left in her mailbox. It is a novel, Nocturnal Animals, written by her ex-husband Edward Sheffield (Mr. Gyllenhaal), with whom she has had no contact for years. Edward’s note accompanying the manuscript encourages Susan to read the work and then to contact him during his visit to the city. Alone at night, in bed, Susan begins reading. The novel is dedicated to her…

…but its content is violent and devastating. While Susan reads, she is deeply moved by Edward’s writing and cannot help but reminisce over the most private moments from her own love story with the author. Trying to look within herself and beyond the glossy surface of the life and career that she has made, Susan increasingly interprets the book as a tale of revenge, a tale that forces her to re-evaluate the choices that she has made, and re-awakens a love that she feared was lost – as the story builds to a reckoning that will define both the novel’s hero and her own.’ [Read more…]

Who’s Your Daddy? Trailer – Owen Wilson & Ed Helms are b*stards looking for their father

September 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

whos-your-daddy-owen-wilson-ed-helmsWe must be most sensitive in the UK. In America, this film is going by the rather blunt title Bastards, but over here it’s be retitled to the softer Who’s Your Daddy. It’s the same film though, and the same new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ed Helms (“The Hangover” films) and Owen Wilson (“The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Zoolander 2”) star in Alcon Entertainment’s comedy “Who’s Your Daddy?” under the direction of Lawrence Sher (“The Hangover” films). The film marks the directorial debut of the veteran cinematographer.

‘Helms and Wilson play Peter and Kyle Reynolds, two brothers whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father had died when they were young. When they discover this to be a lie, they set out to find their real father, learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know.

‘Oscar nominee Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) stars as the twins’ mother, Helen, and Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback-turned-actor Terry Bradshaw (“Failure to Launch”) join the cast as potential father figures. Rounding out the cast are comedian Katt Williams, Oscar nominee June Squibb (“Nebraska”), Kate Aselton (TV’s “The League”), and Ving Rhames (the “Mission Impossible” films).

‘Scheduled for UK release on February 3rd 2017, the film is an Alcon Entertainment presentation and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.’ [Read more…]

Christine Trailer – Rebecca Hall takes on an infamous on-air suicide

September 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christine-slideOver the years there have been a few cases where someone has committed suicide live on air. The most famous cases are probably Bud Dwyer and Christine Chubbuck. Antonio Campos (Simon Killer) has taken on the latter story with Christine, which got tremendous reviews when it debuted as Sundance earlier this year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Rebecca Hall stars in director Antonio Campos’ third feature film, CHRISTINE, the story of a woman who finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a spiraling personal life and career crisis. Christine, always the smartest person in the room at her local Sarasota, Florida news station, feels like she is destined for bigger things and is relentless in her pursuit of an on-air position in a larger market. As an aspiring newswoman with an eye for nuance and an interest in social justice, she finds herself constantly butting heads with her boss (Tracy Letts), who pushes for juicier stories that will drive up ratings.

‘Plagued by self-doubt and a tumultuous home life, Christine’s diminishing hope begins to rise when an on-air co-worker (Michael C. Hall) initiates a friendship which ultimately becomes yet another unrequited love. Disillusioned as her world continues to close in on her, Christine takes a dark and surprising turn.’ [Read more…]

Miss Sloane Trailer – Jessica Chastain fights for gun control

September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miss-sloane-jessica-chastainWhile much of the world finds it difficult to understand the US’s reluctance to enact gun control measures, it remains one of the most vexed issues in the country. However, Miss Sloane wants to take a look at some of the issues.

It shows you just how much of a divisive issue it is, that the official synopsis doesn’t mention gun control at all. It simply reads, ‘MISS SLOANE is the story a ruthless lobbyist (Jessica Chastain) who is notorious for her unparalleled talent and her desire to win at all costs, even when it puts her own career at risk. The thriller pulls back the curtain on how Capitol Hill games are played and won as Sloane faces off against the most influential powers in D.C.’

Despite the fact the synopsis rather hides it, what Chastain’s character it fighting for is a piece of legislation to ensure better background checks on people buying guns. The movie will be out in the US in December. [Read more…]

The Promise Trailer – Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale deal with the Armenian Genocide

September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

the-promise-slideAs Turkey still refuses to accept the Armenian Genocide happened – even though a full century has passed and historians have almost universally agreed it did take place – so they’re probably not going to be happy with The Promise. However, the film isn’t just about the Genocide, as it also takes in the fact the Ottoman Empire is in its last days, and throws in a love triangle too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘It is 1914. As the Great War looms, the vast Ottoman Empire is crumbling. Constantinople (Istanbul), its once vibrant, multicultural capital is about to be consumed by chaos. Michael Boghosian (Oscar Isaac), arrives in the cosmopolitan hub as a medical student determined to bring modern medicine back to Siroun, his ancestral village in Southern Turkey where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians have lived side by side for centuries. Photo-journalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale), has come here only partly to cover geo-politics. He is mesmerized by his love for Ana (Charlotte le Bon), an Armenian artist he has accompanied from Paris after the sudden death of her father. When Michael meets Ana, their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men even as Michael hangs on to a promise from his past. After the Turks join the war on the German side, the Empire turns violently against its own ethnic minorities. Despite their conflicts, everyone must find a way to survive — even as monumental events envelope their lives.’

An awards season release is expected. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Fifty Shades Darker Trailer – Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get steamy again

September 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fifty-shades-darker-jamie-dornanaYesterday we got a very brief teaser for Fifty Shades Darker. That’s now been followed by the first full trailer for the movie, which shows us Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson back as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

It all starts off rather suave and sophisticated with a masquerade ball, before getting hot and steamy – as you would expect. However, if then starts to take things in a more obsessive thriller direction, with the introduction of new characters. There’s even a few moments that come across in the trailer like a ghost story, but presumably the movie itself isn’t going supernatural. Perhaps most shocking of all, there are moments when Christian doesn’t come across as a complete tool, and Anastasia doesn’t seem like queen of the wet flannels.

Take a look at the Fifty Shades Dark trailer below. The film will be in cinemas February 10th, 2017. [Read more…]

First Look At Dylan O’Brien Playing Mitch Rapp In American Assassin

September 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

american-assassin-dylan-obrienDylan O’Brien has had a tough year. He was seriously injured on the set of The Maze Runner follow-up, The Death Cure, which resulted in a lengthy hospital stay and recuperation. However, it hasn’t stopped his star rising, as along with the Maze Runner movies and TV’s Teen Wolf, he’s taking on the lead in American Assassin, which may end up becoming a franchise.

The first image from the movie has now been released, featuring OBrien as Mitch Rapp.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Two decades after the Cold War, Islamic terrorism is on the rise, and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield forms a new group of clandestine operatives—men who do not exist—to meet this burgeoning threat abroad before it reaches America’s shores. Stansfield’s protégée, Irene Kennedy, finds the ideal candidate in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Among the thousands grieving the victims is Mitch Rapp, a gifted college athlete, who wants only one thing: retribution. Six months of intense training prepares him to devastate the enemy with brutal efficiency, leaving a trail of bodies from Istanbul and across Europe, to Beirut. But there, the American assassin will need every ounce of skill and cunning to survive the war-ravaged city and its deadly terrorist factions.’

Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, and Sanaa Lathan also star, with Michael Cuestra directing. The film, based on Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp novels, will be in cinemas next year.

Benicio Del Toro May Star In Predator Reboot

September 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benicio-Del-ToroFox certainly feels there’s more life in the Predator franchise, as despite little love of the Alien Vs Predator films, and a likewarm reception for 2010’s Predators, it’s pushing ahead with a new movie, currently titled The Predator. This time it looks like they’re trying to get a little starpower, as Variety reports that Benicio Del Toro is in talks to star.

Part of the reason Fox is willing to pump a fair amount of cash into this project is the presences of Shane Black, the Lethal Weapon writer who’s turned into a a bit of a directing force with the likes of Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys. It was his concept that got The Predator off the ground, and he’s co-writing and directing the movie.

We don’t know too much about the movie, although Black has said it will be about a man called Quinn Mackenna, which may or may not be Del Toro’s role. There may also be space for Arnie to reprise his role from the original movie. It’s currently due in cinemas in 2017.
