The Secret Life of Pets Trailer – The makers of Despicable Me find their inner animals

June 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

secret-life-of-pets-trailer-slideComedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart make their animated feature-film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets, which co-stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.

As the title suggests, it’s all about what pets get up to when human aren’t around. We’ll have to wait a while to watch the actual movie though, as it’s not due out until July 2016. [Read more…]

Eli Roth Takes On The Giant Shark Thriller Meg

June 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eli-rothWhen Steve Allen’s novel Meg, hit shelves in 1997 many saw it as a bit of a successor to Jaws, and figured it wouldn’t be long until it hit the big screen.

However despite numerous attempts (the first of which was scuppered by the release of Deep Blue Sea), it’s never happened, but they haven’t given up, as now Eli Roth is in talks to direct a film version of the prehistoric shark tale, according to THR.

The novel, ‘revolves around two men who band together to neutralize an ancient shark that’s threatening the California coast. The Megaladon, considered one of the largest and most powerful predators in history, can reach a maximum length of 60 feet.’

However with China now the market Hollywood is keen to pander to, the massive beast will now be threatening that country rather than the US, although there will presumably be some Yanks around to save the day.

Dean Georgaris’ script is apparently the thing that got Warner Bros. excited about the possibilities for Meg, and no doubt Jurassic World’s recent success has helped sweeten things. It’s not clear when it will shoot though.

Jason Segel Will Have Collateral Beauty Alongside Hugh Jackman & Rooney Mara

June 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-segelLast week it was revealed that Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara had taken the lead roles in Collateral Beauty, with Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) set to direct. Now another actor is in talks for the movie, as Jason Segel is circling the film, according to Variety.

Collateral Beauty is ‘about a New York advertising executive (Jackman) who experiences a deep personal tragedy. When his colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, the plan works, but not in a way that anyone imagined’.

It’s not clear who Segel will play, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s one of the colleagues trying to help Jackman out.

Allan Loeb wrote the script, with plans to shoot the movie this autumn.

Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson Returning For Pitch Perfect 3 In 2017

June 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pitch-perfect-2-poster-slideIt seems to be the year for Universal underestimating the popularity of their movies, with Furious 7 and Jurassic World both massively outperforming expectations, and Pitch Perfect 2 also surprising, making $171 million in the US alone.

It certainly wasn’t expected, as while Universal had hoped to make a third Pitch Perfect movie, they’d already decided they’d have to do so without Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, with Hailee Steinfeld deliberately brought into the second movie so that she could lead a lowed budgeted Part 3. Indeed, the end of Pitch Perfect 2 seemed to suggest the original characters were moving on.

However due to the movie’s huge success, plans have changed and THR reports both Kendrick and Wilson will now be back for Pitch Perfect 3, which has been set for released on July 21st, 2017. Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two films, is also returning, but there’s no news on the plot.

Kristen Stewart’s Mom Confirms Her Daughter Is Currently Dating A Woman

June 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kristen-StewartSometimes you don’t need to officially come out, you just need a mother who’ll tell the world for you. There have been rumours previously about Kristen Stewart’s sexuality, but her publicly known dalliances have been with men, including a very high profile relationship with Robert Pattinson and a fling with (married) Snow White & The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Now though it seems she’s dating a woman, and it’s her mom who’s apparently confirmed it to the world.

Her mother, Jules Stewart, says (assuming we trust the Sunday Mirror’s quotes), “What’s not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She’s happy. She’s my daughter, I’m just her mom so she knows I would accept her choices. I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her. What’s not to accept? She’s a lovely girl.”

She adds, “I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men. It’s OK to be who you are in my world. We all choose our friends so we should be free to choose our lovers. People are good to do whatever they like as long as they’re not hurting people or breaking the law. I have gay friends, family members, I’m accepting of people, we are all free to choose who we want to love.”

Kristen is apparently dating her personal assistant, Alicia Cargile. Speculation about them grew in April, after they were snapped looking very couply at Coachella.

The actress herself hasn’t commented, which isn’t surprising after the huge media pressure her relationship with Pattinson came under.

Rupert Wyatt To Direct Channing Tatum In X-Men Spin-Off Gambit

June 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rupert-wyattAfter scoring a major hit with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, director Rupert Wyatt is heading for the X-Men universe, as Variety reports that he will helm Channing Tatum in Gambit.

There’s no news on the specific plot, but Josh Zetumer has written the script, but it will concentrate on the mutant who, as Wikipedia says, ‘has the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff. Gambit is known to charge playing cards and other objects with kinetic energy, using them as explosive projectiles.’

Tatum has long been attached to the title role, and it’s believed we will first see him in character in X-Men: Apocalypse, although probably only very briefly and likely in the end credits.

After talking about it for year, Fox is now busy expanding its X-Men universe, with Deadpool due out February 2016, Apocalypse in May and Gambit in October – which certainly seems like a lot of mutants for one year!
