James Franco & Zachary Quinto Get Loved-Up In The First Official Pic From The Gay-Themed Michael

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-franco-quinto-pic1Back in August both Zachary Quinto and James Franco released a few pics of themselves on the set of their new movie, Michael, but it’s only now that we’re getting the first proper image from the film, which accompanies a THR article about movies that are for sale at the American Film Market.

In Michael, Franco play Michael Glatze, who went from being a prominent gay rights advocate to becoming one of the poster-boys for the ex-gay movement when he found God, renounced his homosexuality and married a woman. Quinto plays one of Glatze’s former lovers, with Emma Roberts and Darryl Hannah also starring.

The movie will be looking for international distribution at the AFM, so that hopefully we’ll all be able to see it when it’s released sometime in 2015.

Minions Trailer – Gru’s little yellow friends are getting their own movie

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

minions-pic1Without the Minions, there’s a good chance Despicable Me wouldn’t have been the hit it was. If nothing else they’ve been a massive merchandising bonanza, so it’s not too much of a shock that the small, yellow oblongs are getting their own film.

Now the first trailer has arrived which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’sMinionsbegins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters – from T. rex to Napoleon – the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

‘But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he – alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob – ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

‘The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award®winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.

‘Featuring a soundtrack of hit music from the ’60s that still permeates our culture today,Minionsis produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Brian Lynch has written the screenplay for the 3D-CG comedy adventure, and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.’

The movie is due out June 2015. [Read more…]

Jake Gyllenhaal Will Be The Man Who Made It Snow

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake-GyllenhaalJake Gyllenhaal got some of the best notices of his career for the just released Nightcrawler (and not solely for his dramatic weight loss). It now looks like he’s interested in staying in morally ambiguous territory with The Man Who Made It Snow according to Deadline.

The film will reunite him with director Antoine Fuqua, who have only just finished working together on the upcoming movie Southpaw.

Although the title on the new film make it sound like this will be a sweet, charming tale, the ‘Snow’ of the title has a double meaning. The Man Who Made It Snow tells the true story of Max Mermelstein, ‘a Jewish hotel engineer who transformed Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel from a small mom-and-pop drug organization into a billion-dollar enterprise’. However he later turned against Escobar and acted as a witness for the US government.

The plan is to shoot the movie late next year, once the full funding is in place.

Henry Cavill Takes On The Action Thriller Stratton

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

henry-cavillHenry Cavill can’t spend all his time wearing a large ‘S’ on his chest (well, I suppose he could, but he’d get a few funny looks), so he’s signed up to spend part of his time between Batman V Superman and Justice League starring in the action thriller Stratton.

Deadline reports Cavill will produce and star in the potential franchise, which is based on an eight novel series by Duncan Falconer, a form military man who writes under a pseudonym. John Stratton ‘is an operative of the SBS who works with the Intelligence Detachment in Northern Ireland’.

There’s no info on exactly which of the books the film will be based on, but it appears it’ll be an international adventure, starting out Kazakhstan and China, before moving to mainland Europe and London.

Cavill comments, “Having the opportunity to expand my horizons into filmmaking is incredibly exciting. Getting to work so closely with my brother [Charlie Cavill, who will also produce] in this venture is equally so.”

The film will be looking for funding at the American Film Market, but it doesn’t appear a director is currently attached.

Fast & Furious 7 Trailer – First look at Paul Walker’s action-packed final film

November 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Furious-7-poster1While the production of Fast & Furious 7 (known simply as Furious 7 in the US) was marked by tragedy with the death of Paul Walker, the first trailer suggests that the actual movie will be the car-based madness we’ve come to expect from the franchise.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel and Michael Fottrell return to produce the film written by Chris Morgan.’

The movie will be in UK cinemas next April. [Read more…]

Daniel Radcliffe Has Some Coming Out Advice For Young Gay People

November 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

horns-teaser-trailerFew young stars have been as staunch supporter of gay people as Daniel Radcliffe (although Josh Hutcherson might be able to give him a run for his money. The former Harry Potter has rarely held back from showing his support, as well as doing a lot of work with The Trevor Project.

Now, during a Buzzfeed Q&A where the currently rather beardy actor was asked to turn agony uncle, Radcliffe has some reassuring coming out advice. He was asked “I’m 21 and gay, my friends know but I’m terrified of telling my parents. My close friends know but I’m terrified about telling my parents. Should I keep it quiet or if I should tell them how’s best to break it to them?”

He very sensibly replied, “Okay dude. I’m very sorry, this is not a question for me. I cannot give advice on this. I don’t know your parents, I don’t know the situation. I would say in the long run this is gonna be something they should know about and you’re going to have to deal with it eitherway.

“And if they’re your parents, they’ll love you, so don’t worry. But I hope that that goes well for you, but maybe talk to other people that know your parents.”

Radcliffe was talking to Buzzfeed for the release of his new movie Horns, which is in cinemas now.

You can take a look at Radcliffe’s advice below. [Read more…]

Wentworth Miller Admits Squirming Watching Gay Characters On TV As A Young Man

November 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wentworth-MillerMost people agree that gay representation on TV is a good thing, but when it was far rarer than it is today, there were issues. For many straight people their entire knowledge of gay people was what they’d seen on television, creating a somewhat warped perception. It was something many gay people themselves were uneasy with – pleased to see gay characters but concerned that only a small part of the LGBT experience was being shown.

Now Wentworth Miller has being talking about that with The Backlot, relating his experience watching Melrose Place and its gay character, Matt Fielding, the sole non-straight person in an apartment full of the young and the beautiful.

Miler says, “Obviously it’s important for folks in the LGBT community – kids especially – to see themselves reflected onscreen. I can remember watching Melrose Place in college and paying special attention to the Matt Fielding character. Did that help ease the pain of coming out? No. Did I squirm a little wondering if my friends who were watching the show with me were connecting me to Matt? Yes.

“I also knew the actor (Doug Savant) was straight. But I did appreciate seeing some evidence that Hollywood was willing to tell Matt’s story. It wasn’t my story, but I felt a connection. Some representation. We’ve come a long way since then and I’m sure we’ll go a long way still.”

Miller recently took a recurring role on The Flash and was first seen in Episode 4, which aired in the US a couple of days ago, and will next pop up in Episode 10.

Ansel Elgort & Brenton Thwaites In The Running For Pirates of the Caribbean 5

November 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ansel-elgortA couple of years after Disney originally wanted it to shoot, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is heading out next February to get the cameras rolling. Now it’s time to fill out the cast, and as with the earlier movies they want a hot young star to appear alongside Johnny Depp.

Deadline reports that a shortlist for the role has now been drawn up, with Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), George Mackay (Pride), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent), Mitchell Hope (Descendants), Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars) and Sam Keeley (In The Heart Of The Sea) in the running to play a character called Henry.

There’s no news on exactly how Henry plays into the plot, although whoever gets the role will star alongside Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, with Javier Bardem also recently going into talks to play the villain. There’s also likely to be a lot of young actresses interested in a major female role, Barbosa’s daughter Carina Smyth.

The movie is due out July 7th, 2017.

First Look At Matt Bomer (And His Quiff) In American Horror Story: Freak Show

October 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-bomer-american-horror-story-freak-showIf they could just bring back Zachary Quinto, American Horror Story: Freak Show would have the full trifecta of gay male acting royalty from the US. Just a couple of days ago it was announced that Neil Patrick Harris (and his hubby David Burtka) would show up in the final two episodes, and Matt Bomer also took a week off shooting Magic Mike XXL so that he could show up.

Now the first pic of Bomer in AMH has arrived via Out, and he’s looking good. Indeed he’s looking almost ridiculously youthful for a man who’s just turned 37.

We like the quiff/bouffand hairdo though.

Bomer will share the screen with  Michael Chiklis, and Finn Wittrock. However creator Ryan Murphy has hinted that he may not be around for long, telling THR, “[He’s in] maybe one of the most disturbing things we’ve ever done and a true horror scene.” And from other things Murphy has said, that’s likely to involve Twisty the Clown.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘EX_MACHINA is an intense psychological thriller in which Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a retreat belonging to the company’s reclusive CEO, Nathan (Oscar Isaac).
