October 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

woman-in-black-2-jeremy-irvineWe’ve had a couple of teaser trailers for The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, and now we get the first proper, full trailer for the follow-up to the movie that became the most successful chiller in UK box office history.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘England, 1941 With London in the midst of the blitz, two teachers evacuate a group of schoolchildren to the abandoned Eel Marsh House. The Gambler Red Band Teaser – Mark Wahlberg enters a dangerous world

October 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gambler-poster1The first teaser for The Gambler – starring Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jessica Lange – has arrived. It’s a bit of a change of director for Wahlberg after Transformers 4 and for director Rupert Wyatt, whose last movie was Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jim Bennett (Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Michael Kenneth Williams) and offers his own life as collateral. Always one step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Alvin Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Academy Award®-winner Jessica Lange) in his wake. He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (John Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett’s future. As his relationship with a student (Brie Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance…’

It’s out in the US in December but no official UK release date has been set yet. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

However the mystery is over as he’s appears on one of the four Into The Woods covers of the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.

‘Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Jesse Plemons To Gay A Gay Saturday Night Live Writer In The Film Other People

October 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jesse-plemons-slideBattleship and Breaking Bad actor Jesse Plemons has booked himself a new role (which will hopefully take the sting off the fact that for months he was rumoured to be the lead in the new Star Wars film, but ultimately won’t be in the movie at all). TheWrap reports he’s set to take the lead role in Other People, from writer/director Chris Kelly.

Plemons will play ‘a gay Saturday Night Live writer who returns home to Sacramento to be with his mother (Sissy Spacek), who is in the final stages of terminal cancer. While home, he struggles to deal with a painful recent breakup and reconcile with his conservative father’s disapproving attitude regarding his sexuality.’

It sounds like it’ll be a fairly personal project from Kelly, who is gay and an SNL writer himself, with three Emmy nominations to his name. Other People will mark his feature directorial debut.

To add a little extra cachet the talented Adam Scott (Parks & Recreation) will produce along with his wife Naomi. They’re currently putting all the pieces together in terms of financing with the hope of shooting the movie next year.

October 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-place-dvd-cover-slideIn the last few years there’s been a concerted effort to expand gay-themed film from the realms of drama and comedy. That continues with the thriller The Dark Place, which has been finding success of the LGBT film festival circuit and will be heading to DVD and VOD in the US on December 2nd, 2014.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Long estranges from his widowed mother, Keegan Dark is blessed with the uncanny ability to remember his life in videographic detail. He suddenly has a stepfather and stepbrother, both far more perfect than he could ever hope to be.

‘As Keegan resigns himself to forever being on the outs, a series of mysterious – and ominous – events unfold, forcing Keegan to unravel a conspiracy that frames him for murder, threatens his inheritance, and endangers his family’s lives and livelihood.’

Last Summer Trailer – Two gay teens contemplate their future in the rural US south

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

last-summer-slideLast Summer has been getting great reviews from film festival screenings with tale of two young gay men figuring themselves and the world around them out. You can take a look at the trailer below, ahead of its December US release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Last Summer tells the story of two high school sweethearts, Luke and Jonah, who spend their final months together over the course of a long, quiet summer in the rural South, contemplating their uncertain future and the uncertain future of America.

‘Jonah, sensitive, quiet and artistic, prepares to leave his small town for college, leaving Luke behind, but all he wants is for Luke to ask him to stay. But Luke, an athlete struggling through summer school, knows that his boyfriend needs to experience the world beyond their home. Though he is somewhat aimless and unsure of his place in the world, he begins to find solace in an old camera that he finds in an antique store.

Old Dogs & New Tricks Season 3 Trailer – The gay-themed web series is back in November

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

old-dogs-new-tricks-s3The WeHo escapades of middle-aged gay best buds Nathan, Brad, Ross & Muscles continue beginning Nov. 12, 2014, when popular gay web series Old Dogs & New Tricks returns for its long-awaited third season.

The season premiere picks up one week after the events of the show’s recent Halloween-set “mini-movie” WeHo Horror Story, with Nathan reeling from Damian’s disappearance and Ross preparing for his impending gay divorce. But this year, the show expands its scope:

“We still see the guys’ romantic misadventures,” explains show creator/writer/star Leon Acord. “But this year, we also see more of their successes and mistakes in their professional lives.  We may have fewer sex scenes this year, but the ones we have are more outrageous than ever–including the show’s first bare ass!”

The new season also features guest-star appearances from Rutanya Alda (Mommie Dearest), who plays Nelson Van Eddy’s haughty personal assistant Barbara Fierce in four episodes. Mo Gaffney (Absolutely Fabulous) appears in the season premiere as Ross’ divorce attorney, while Kathryn Leigh Scott (Dark Shadows) plays Muscles’ mom, Lily Anne, in the season finale. Jim J. Bullock (Too Close for Comfort) makes a cameo as Nathan’s latest celebrity-quack therapist.

The entire principal cast returns for the new season. Besides Acord as neurotic talent agent Nathan, the show stars Curt Bonnem as hedonistic Brad, Jeffrey Patrick Olson as wholesome Muscles, David Pevsner as struggling actor Ross & Amanda Gari (in an expanded role) as Nathan’s wise-cracking “girl-Friday” Lydia Lasker.  Bruce L. Hart appears in three episodes as resident villain Nelson, as does Parnell Damone Marcano as Ross’ estranged spouse Neal.

New episodes debut each subsequent Wednesday at www.OldDogsNewTricksTheSeries.com and the show’s YouTube channel (youtube/OldDogsTheSeries).

“I’m very proud of this season,” says Acord, “Our cast and crew all brought their A-game, and it shows. I can honestly say its our best yet. I can’t wait to see what our viewers think!

Take a look at the trailer for the new season below. [Read more…]

Shining Moon Film Heading Into Latino LGBT Culture & It Needs Your Help (You Could Even Get Mooned Yourself)

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shining-moon-slideDescribed as a ‘colourful, hilarious and poignant feature film about love and redemption’, Shining Moon hopes to take us into Latino gay and drag culture, but to do that it needs your help as it’s launched an Indiegogo campaign with the hope of raising the $35,000 it needs to plug its funding gap and get it in the can.

There is also at least one rather unusual perk if you give enough money, and if you like ass and have $7,000 spare, the key actors will moon you in a personal video! It certainly makes a difference from just getting a copy of the film or having your name on a website.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Renato and Ivan are two middle aged actors, living in a gay relationship that has become monotonous and unexciting over the years. Their precarious lives are stretched to the limit as they try to find ways to make quality theater in Chile, a country which cares less and less about art and culture.

‘Their daily routine suddenly changes when Anibal, a handsome young filmmaker who is not gay casts them in a film based on a famous drama about the lives of Lola and Ana, two poor, outcast, elderly drag queens who were once bright lights in the Latino LGBT firmament. The deeply human story of Lola and Ana will reveal their restrictions, dreams, fears and joy.

‘However, Renato and Ivan are also part of a society that segregates and discriminates and they must overcome their own prejudices to play such challenging characters – Lola and Ana, who likes to show up with their fantasy names Luna and Sol.

‘As Renato and Ivan confront their own demons and heal ancient sorrows they discover a new opportunity to defeat their fears, redeem themselves as talented actors and find new meaning to their own personal lives.’

You can take a look at the fundraising video below, and if you like the look of the movie, head over to Indiegogo to head out. [Read more…]
