Charlize Theron Wants Everything Nice In A New Movie

March 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronCharlize Theron has booked herself a new role as Deadline reports that she’s attached to star in a movie based on Ellen Sherman’s novel Everything Nice. Universal has snapped up rights, and the search is now on for a screenwriter.

Theron should play ‘Michaela, an advertising exec who gets fired and takes on the only job she can get, teaching life skills to teenage girls at a public school. Lacking in the basic social skills herself, she tries her best to school her pupils in what they’ll need to know in order to survive.’

It’s not clear when the movie will shoot. Charlize will new be seen in Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West.

Angelina Jolie Is All Cheekbones As The Evil Fairy In A New Maleficent Poster

March 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maleficent-poster2
The one thing you’d never think Angelina Jolie would need is more cheekbones, but she’s got some in Maleficent. You can see just how high they are in the new poster, which has just been released. It’s a great image, although we’re still yet to see whether there are actual horns under the headdress or if it’s just the bad fairy’s unique fashion statement.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

It’s due in cinemas this May.

The Normal Heart Teaser Trailer – Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch and co. take on Larry Kramer’s classic play

March 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After several years in development, The Normal Heart is finally on its way, with Glee’s Ryan Murphy directing an all-star cast for a film that will first air on HBO in the US on May 25th. It looks like it’s gonna be pretty good, with the movie bringing out the fear and confusion present in Larry Kramer’s classic play about the early days of AIDS, before those affected decide to fight back against a system that is almost as afraid of the type of people often affected by HIV as it is of the disease itself.

Mark Ruffalo takes on the lead role of Ned Weeks, who in the early 80s is one of the first people to raise an alarm about the new disease that initially was known as ‘Gay Cancer’, but which later was called HIV/AIDS. Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will be gay activist Tommy Boatwright, a role he previously took in a 2011 Broadway revival of the play.

Julia Roberts is Emma Brookner, a doctor who is the only one of her peers in New York taking AIDS seriously. Matt Bomer is Felix Turner, a gay fashion journalist who becomes Ned’s lover. Jonathan Groff is playing an early victim of the disease called Craig, whose boyfriend, Taylor Kitsch, starts off as a closeted investment banker but eventually becomes an AIDS activist.

Larry Kramer’s play is considered one of the most important reactions to the early AIDS epidemic, written by someone who has on the front lines of the fight, such as co-founding Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP. He later wrote a follow-up, The Destiny Of Me.

The rest of the world should get to see The Normal Heart shortly after its US HBO debut. [Read more…]

NCIS’ Pauley Perrette To Produce Doc About Priest Fired After Performing Son’s Gay Wedding

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pauley-Perrette-and-Frank-Schaefer-1Last year saw both great highs and great lows for United Methodist minister, Frank Schaefer. On the positive side, his son got married and Frank was able to perform the ceremony – a joy for any parent. However as his son married another man, following a church trial he was convicted of performing a gay wedding and stripped of his credentials as a minister.

However rather than hiding away and feeling sorry for himself, he used the media attention surrounding his case to make appearances on The View, CNN, MSNBC, CBS Evening News, and countless regional news outlets, almost overnight going from being a small-town minister to an outspoken LGBT activist.

Now a documentary is being made about him by director Scott Sheppard, and Pauley Perrette, best known as Abby on TV’s NCIS, has come onboard to Executive Produce the film. Perrette has long been a very strong and vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights, and indeed last year directed her own lesbian-themed short film, to raise money for The Trevor Project.

Sheppard, who is himself the son of a Methodist minister, comments on the film, called An Act Of Love, “When I heard Pastor Frank’s story, I connected with it in such a deep way that I knew I had to make a film about it.”

The filmmakers are currently raising funds for the project, including launching a Kickstarter campaign in the hope of raising $75,000 to get the movie made. You can find out over at Kickstarter.

Isaiah Washington To Return To Grey’s Anatomy Following Homophobic Slur Firing

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Isaiah-WashingtonSeven years ago Isaiah Washington’s career came crashing down after details of an argument on the Grey’s Anatomy set became public, where he used the ‘f**got’ in reference to then closeted co-star TR Knight. While it initially seemed Washington would withstand the negative publicity, after he used the word again backstage at the Golden Globe awards, he was fired.

However it’s now been announced that Washington will return to Grey’s Anatomy for a guest appearance in May. Although details haven’t announced, it’s almost certain the return of his character, heart surgeon Dr. Preston Burke, is related to the departure of one of the show’s original stars, Sandra Oh, who is leaving Grey’s at the end of the season. Her character was at one point engaged to Burke.

It appears at the moment that Washington’s appearance will be a one-off.

Following his firing Washington has found it difficult to get work. Indeed between 2007 and today, his only IMDB listing is for a short film called ‘Not 4 Sale’, although he does have some projects coming up later in the year.

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

renee-zellwegerA few weeks ago, Daniel Craig signed up to star in The Whole Truth, now he may have some company, as Variety reports that Renee Zellweger is in talks to join the courtroom thriller.

Unfortunately there are still no plot details that have been released about the movie, other than that Craig will be playing a lawyer. Frozen River director Courtney Hunt is directing from a script by Nicholas Kazan. Richard Suckle will be producing with FilmNation handling foreign rights.

It’s not clear when it might shoot, although it’s believed Craig is hoping to get it in the can before he starts shooting Bond 24, which is due to begin filming in the autumn.

Thomas Kretschmann joins Rupert Friend In Agent 47

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thomas-kretschmannThomas Kretschmann’s star is certainly on the rise, he apparently has a multi-picture deal with Marvel that will start with Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and now he’s signed up to play the villain in Fox’s plans to reboot the videogame Hitman on the big screen, which is going by the name Agent 47.

The project had a major setback when Paul Walker, who was set for the title role, tragically died, but he’s now been replaced by Rupert Friend, playing a deadly assassin with a barcode tattooed on the back of his head. Kretschmann is playing LeClerq, the chairman of Syndicate International, an organisation that is striving to create an army of unstoppable agents, and which Friend’s character must stop.

Zachary Quinto and Hannah Ware are also set to star, but it’s not clear who they will play.

Aleksander Bach is directing from a screenplay by Skip Woods and Michael Finch (Predators). Filming has already begun in Berlin. (Source: THR)

Idris Elba Joins Jon Favreau & Disney’s The Jungle Book

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Idris-ElbaWith two live action versions of The Jungle Book in the works – one from Warner Bros. and one from Disney – so the race is on to get them into cinemas. Now Disney’s one, which Jon Favreau is set to direct, is close to signing Idris Elba to perform and provide the voice for the tiger Shere Khan.

Shere Khan is the deadly jungle cat who stalks and threatens Mowgli, the young boy brought up by animals in the Indian jungle. He believe Mowgli is a threat that will only grow as he ages.

Robert Legato, who was instrumental to the effects in Avatar (and won an Oscar for it), will oversee the motion capture in the adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling novel. He’ll work with production designers Alex McDowell (Man of Steel) and Chris Glass, and concept artists Michael Kutsche (Maleficent), Iain McCaig (Star Wars: Episode VII ) and Justin Sweet (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe). David Lowery (Iron Man ) is heading up the story team, which is working around the clock with seven full-time illustrators, with Legacy Effects in charge of rigging and creature design.

Disney is keen to beat Warner Bros.’ take on the classic story to the big screen. Currently Disney has the advantage, as  director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu stepped aside several weeks ago, and as yet there’s no replacement.
