Danny Boyle Working On Billie Jean King ‘Battle Of The Sexes’ Biopic

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-boyleDanny Boyle may have decided on a new movie as PageSix reports that the director is thinking of reteaming with Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours writer Simon Beaufoy and producer Christian Colson on a biopic of tennis legend Billie Jean King.

The movie will focus on her match against Bobby Riggs in 1973, which was recently the subject of the documentary The Battle of the Sexes. After self-proclaimed chauvinist Bobby Riggs’ declarated that the female game was inferior and that a top woman player couldn’t beat him even at the age of 55, he challenged King to a match, but she declined. Margaret Court then the top female player in the world – but lost in straight sets, seemingly confirming Riggs’ claims.

King wasn’t going to stand for that and agreed to play Bobby in what became a nationally televised media sensation.

It was an important time in King’s life for another reason too, as for the first time she’s relatively recently become involved in a relationship with a woman, even though she was still married to a man at the time.

Boyle and Beaufoy have apparently already met with King and plans to have more meeting as they get to work on the script. It’s now known if this will be his next movie, but a Danny Boyle sports biopic would certainly be interesting.

Norman Reedus & Djimon Hounsou Going Post-Apocalyptic In Air

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

norman-reedusNorman Reedus got a lot of new fans thanks to The Walking Dead. Now he’s keeping it in the zombie series family as he’s teaming with Walking Dead executive producer and comic book creator Robert Kirkman, for the sci-fi thriller Air, according to THR. Djimon Hounsou has also signed up for the movie.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions is in final talks to acquire the movie which is set in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster. The film is set in an underground cryogenic facility that is one of the only habitable places left on Earth. Air follows two custodial workers (Reedus & Hounsou), who take care of the people who are in deep cryogenic sleep. They must maintain the fragile environment while trying to keep hold of their sanity.

Christian Cantamessa, who’s been the writer and/or lead designer on video games like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, is making his directorial debut, working from a script he co-wrote with Chris Pasetto. Robert Kirkman is producing alongside fellow The Walking Dead executive producer David Alpert, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Chris Ferguson.

Jai Courtney Lands Kyle Reese Role In Terminator: Genesis

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jai-Courtney2-slideLast week it was reported that producers were closing in on who they wanted to play Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis. It was down to Boyd Holbrook and Jai Courtney. Now THR reports that it’s Courtney who’s got the part.

The actor joins Jason Clarke as John Connor and Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. Arnold Schwarzengger is also returning. In the original 1984 classic The Terminator, Kyle Reese (played by Michael Biehn) was the soldier sent back in time by resistance leader John Connor to save his mother Sarah. He ultimately became John’s Connor’s father.

Genesis is being planned as the beginning of a new, stand-alone trilogy. It’s believed that the story will take place both in the future and in an undetermined time in the past (not least because the actor playing John is significantly older than who will be his mother), most likely before John was even born.

Alan Taylor is directing from a script by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis.

First Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer – The Marvel movie is looking pretty cool & so is Chris Pratt

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Guardians Of The Galaxy was first announced, a few people were left scratching their heads. Most who weren’t comic fans had never heard of it, and when they found out it was set in space but featured a living tree and a talking raccoon, many were ready the pass it off as a major mistake on Marvel’s part. However now the first trailer is here and it’s looking really cool and as if it could be a lot of fun.

‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’

Marvel has obviously learned a lot from their previous films, and seems to have smartly gone for an outer space look that’s grimy enough to be believable, while having plenty of humour to help keep the whole moving along. No we can’t wait to see the whole thing!

Take a look at the trailer above and some images from it below… [Read more…]

Michelle Rodriguez Reveals She’s In A Relationship With Model Cara Delevingne

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michelle-rodriguezLast October Michelle Rodriguez confirmed that she is bisexual. At the time, some of the less generous (and perhaps a little bi-phobic) commenters suggested that while she might have said she’s bi, we’d never see her with another woman. However now the actress has let the Daily Mail know that she’s currently dating top model Cara Delevingne.

It’s not really a shock, as the couple have been spotted out and about together, with plenty of PDAs suggesting they were an item, but as with many fledgling relationships, no one was saying anything publicly.

That’s changed as Rodriguez says of her new beau, “It’s going really well. She’s so cool. When we started hanging out I just thought she was awesome, and we have the best time together. She’s hard though. You wouldn’t want to mess with her in a fight.”

A ‘source’ adds “It’s still really fresh and exciting for both of them. They’re really happy and loved-up, and spending as much time together as possible.”

We have to say, they certainly make for an attractive couple. (If you’re wondering what Cara look like, take a peak below). [Read more…]

Not Looking Parody Of Looking Seeks Funding For A Full Web Series

February 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

not-lookingA couple of weeks ago the great Funny Or Die video, Not Looking, went viral, including on this site, thanks to it’s sharp and funny parody of HBO’s gay series, Looking. It seems those involved have realised they were onto something, as they’ve launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign in the hope they can raise enough money for six episodes of a Not Looking web series.

The cast includes Drew Droege, Jason Looney, Justin Martindale, and Jeremy Shane. With their original 90-second parody, they successfully skewered some of things Looking has been criticised for and also managed to present a different picture of gay life that will be very recognisable to many people.

Drew Droege was also behind the incredibly successful Chloe web series, so he certainly knows what he’s doing.

If you want to help out with the funding, watch the Funny Or Die short and the crowsfunding teaser for Season 1 below, then head over the IndieGoGo.
