T2 Teaser – The start of shooting for Trainspotting 2 is officially announced

May 16, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trainspotting-Ewan-McGregorEver since Trainspotting debuted in 1996 there’s been talk of a sequel, with Ewan McGregor, director Danny Boyle keeping the hope alive by suggesting it may happen one day, but it would have to wait for the right time. Well, that time is now, as Sony Pictures UK has released a teaser for T2.

The promo vid, made up of footage from the first movie, announced the start of production on the sequel, which promises to reunite the original cast. That means Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner and Robert Carlyle are all back, as Renton, Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie, with Danny Boyle once more directing.

Steve Jobs (DVD Review)

March 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Katherine Waterston
Director: Danny Boyle
Running Time: 122 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 21st 2016 (UK)

I’m starting to think that screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has decided he’s a complete prick, and so has set out to write things that suggest that being the best and being an ass go hand-in-hand. The likes of The Social Network, Steve Jobs and, to some extent, The Newsroom and Studio 60 On Sunset Strip have all forwarded this agenda. Rumours suggest Sorkin can be incredibly demanding and difficult to work with (stories of how tough it was in the writer’s room of The West Wing and how little he listened to other peoples’ ideas are legendary), and it’s oddly interesting how so many of his projects seem to be about his own issues with this.

What he never quite addresses though is something he puts in the mouth of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in Steven Jobs, who tells the demanding and difficult Steve that being talented and being a decent person are not mutually exclusive. However, in the world of Aaron Sorkin, it often feels like they are. [Read more…]

Brie Larson Will Be Billie Jean King In Battle of the Sexes Movie

September 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brie-larsonThe battle of the Battle Of The Sexes movies continues with Variety revealing that Brie Larson has replaced Emma Stone in a planned film about the infamous tennis match between the legendary Billie Jean King and misogynist Bobby Riggs.

The film is one of two movies about the event in the works, with HBO planning one starring Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti, while Fox Searchlight is behind the one with Larson as King and Steve Carell as Riggs.

Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) wrote the script. Previously Danny Boyle was set to direct, but it now appears he’ll produce with Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine) helming.

The film will be set in the early 70s, when former male World Number 1 tennis played and self-proclaimed chauvinist Bobby Riggs’ declared that the female game was inferior and that a top woman player couldn’t beat him even at the age of 55. He then challenged the already legendary female player Billie Jean King to a match, but she declined.

However Margaret Court, who was then the top female player in the world, took on the challenge, but lost to Bobby in straight sets, seemingly confirming Riggs’ claims. King wasn’t going to stand for that and agreed to play Bobby in what became a nationally televised media sensation.

It was an important time in King’s life for another reason too, as for the first time she’d relatively recently become involved in a relationship with a woman, even though she was still married to a man at the time.

These aren’t the only Battle Of The Sexes movies in the works either, as Will Ferrell has previously been reported to be working on a comedy version where he’ll play Bobby Riggs. However there hasn’t been any news on that film for some time.

Steve Jobs Trailer – Michael Fassbender takes on the Apple co-founder

July 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-jobs-pic1From the evidence of this trailer, Steve Jobs is going to be far more interesting than the bones of the synopsis might suggest – but then you’d hope so with a movie written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle.

Having Michael Fassbender in the lead role helps too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter. Steve Jobs Teaser – First look at Michael Fassbender as the Apple co-founder

May 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-jobs-pic1Now that everyone has pretty much forgotten about the Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher it’s time for another, slightly more official one, with Michael Fassbender in the lead role and a script by Aaron Sorkin. And with Danny Boyle behind the camera, it should be an interesting one.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.

Kate Winslet Wanted For Steve Jobs Biopic Female Lead

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kate-winsletGetting the biopic of Steve Jobs together, with a script by Aaron Sorkin, is turning out to be a lot more difficult than you would imagine. There’s been a bit of a revolving door of directors and actors in the main role, and recently it also jumped studios from Sony to Universal.

However they’re still struggling to get it to work, with Danny Boyle currently set to direct, with Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley.

There’s also been a few issues sorting out the female lead, with Jessica Chastain and Natalie Portman reportedly already having passed on the role. However Variety reports that the latest actress being sought for the part is Kate Winslet, although it’s not clear how close she is to signing on.

They’ll be hoping they can get it sorted soon though, as it’s known that Boyle wants to go into production as soon as possible.

Seth Rogen In Talks To Play Steve Wozniak In Steve Jobs Biopic

October 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-rogenIt’s taken far longer than anyone expected to get the Steve Job biopic that Aaron Sorkin is writing ready to go, but now it seems to be finally moving forward, with Christian Bale signing on the star last week. Now he’s got a co-star, with TheWrap reporting that Seth Rogen is in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The film is based on Walter Isaacson’s biography of Jobs, which was written after extensive interviews with the Apple head honcho and those around him. The film version will be split into three parts, centred around the keynote speeches made when he announced three iconic Apple products, the Mac, NeXT and the original iPod.

It’s believed that around this is will be able to tell the story of the founding on Apple and Jobs’ tumultuous journey. Wozniak co-founded Apple, and is credited with launching the Apple I and Apple II personal computers in the late 1970s.

Danny Boyle is set to direct although it’s not clear when it will shoot.
