Allegiant (Blu-ray Review)

July 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort
Director: Robert Schwentke
Running Time: 120 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: July 11th 2016 (UK)

Poor old Divergent. Things started off well at the box office with the first movie, which helped Lionsgate decide they should expand their plans and turn the three books into four films. However, the second movie was slightly muted at the box office, and this one didn’t do well at all.

In Allegiant, Tris (Shailene Woodley) has opened the box, which suggests the city and its factions are part of an experiment, and that despite what they’ve been told, there is more to the world outside Chicago’s walls. Once out (despite many trying to stop them), Tris, Four (Theo James), her brother (Ansel Elgort) and Peter (Miles Teller), meet David (Jeff Daniels), the director of the experiment. He says they have been using Chicago and the factions to eventually find somebody genetically pure – the other people are defective – and that Tris may be that person. [Read more…]

steve-jobs-pic1Now that everyone has pretty much forgotten about the Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher it’s time for another, slightly more official one, with Michael Fassbender in the lead role and a script by Aaron Sorkin. And with Danny Boyle behind the camera, it should be an interesting one.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.

Jeff Daniels Joins Divergent Series In A Key Role

April 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-danielsJeff Daniels has left The Newsroom behind and following a bit of a hit with Dumb and Dumber To, he’s heading into teen action territory, as he’s signed up to star in the two-part conclusion to the Divergent series, Allegiant, according to THR.

Daniels is taking on a bit of a pivotal role, although if you don’t want to know how he fits into the world of fighting factions who don’t like those who straddle different personality types, you should stop reading now.

He’ll be David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, which set up the system where everyone is sorted into the factions of Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, and Candor. As you may have guessed, their motives in doing this may not have been totally altruistic.

The films will see Tris (Shailene Woodley) on the run and trying to figure out the mystery of the world she was born into. Allegiant: Part 1 will be out March 2016, with Part 2 coming a year later.

The Newsroom – Season 2 (DVD Review)

October 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, Alison Pill
Director: Various
Running Time: 470 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 27th 2014 (UK)

Aaron Sorkin is perhaps the best known writer working in entertainment today. He’s part of a very select group of people where an entire show can be sold purely on the fact he created it. He’s renowned for taking on the issues of the modern world, dissecting and criticising the problems he’s sees with America and the things that are taking it away from being the glorious nation he believes it is at heart. As a result he’s often been criticised by those who have a different view of the world – usually a more sharply right wing view – and that was certainly true of the first season of The Newsroom. The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

‘The Farrelly brothers produce Dumb and Dumber To alongside Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland of Red Granite Pictures. They are joined by fellow producers Charles Wessler and Bradley Thomas. Universal Pictures will distribute the film in the United States, Canada and select international territories.’

Rob Riggle & Jennifer Lawrence Join Dumb and Dumber To

September 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-riggleFilming on Dumb and Dumber To is finally underway, but the cast is still coming together with the news that Rob Riggle has joined the movie, according to Variety. There are also reports that Jennifer Lawrence has shot a secret cameo.

Riggle taking on a dual role, portraying handyman Travis and his unstable twin brother Captain Lippencott. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne from 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, who hit the road once again to find Harry’s long-lost daughter, who is in need of a kidney transplant.

It isn’t certain who Lawrence will be or how big her role will be. There’s always a chance she could be the sick daughter.

Kathleen Turner, Brady Bluhm, Laurie Holden, Rachel Melvin and Steve Tom, with Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly are directing from a screenplay the co-wrote with Bennett Yellin and Mike Cerrone. It’s shooting now in Atlanta.

Take A Look At Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels On The Dumb and Dumber To Set

September 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dumb-and-dumber-to-pic3
Pretty much since the day Dumb & Dumber hit it big in 1994 there’s been talk about a sequel, but while Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly Brothers talked about it over the years, it always seemed like something that would only ever happen in theory.

Even in the last couple of years as talk became more serious, many thought it wouldn’t happen, especially when New Line backed out. However now it’s becoming a reality and to prove it Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the official Twitter account, DumbTo, have tweeted the first pictures from the set, showing us Harry & Lloyd are really coming back.

The sequel picks up 20 years after the original and has the dimwitted duo searching for their long lost children in hopes of finding a matching kidney. It’ll be out next year.

Kathleen Turner Up To Join Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels In Dumb & Dumber To

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kathleen-turnerDumb & Dumber To is one of those ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ movies, as it’s been talked about for so long it’s difficult to believe it’s actually going to happen. However it’s survived being dropped by New Line (it’ll now be funded independently, with Universal distributing), and a lawsuit from one of the producers of the original movie, and now it’s started casting people to join Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey.

Variety reports that Kathleen Turner is in talks to join the movie, but unfortunately there are details of who Turner will be playing. But then, little is known about the movie, other than that Carrey and Daniels are returning to play Harry and Lloyd in the follow-up to the 1994 comedy.

The Farrelly brothers are also back to direct, with plans to start shooting fairly so it can be released next year, exactly 20 years after the first film.
