Rian Johnson Is Planning A Brand New Star Wars Trilogy

November 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Lucasfilm and Disney must really like what Rian Johnson has been doing with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. They’ve announced that the director is now working on a whole new trilogy of movie set in a galaxy far, far away, which will be ‘separate from the episodic Skywalker saga’, according to the official release.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

However, there’s very little information about the films or what they will be about. All of the Star Wars movies announced so far have been tied to the main saga, either continuing the Skywalker story or showing us more about people and events we’ve known about previously.

This time though, it seems we’re really getting something new, as the trilogy will ‘introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.’

“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

It’s not know yet when we will see the first of these film. The Last Jedi is out in December, followed by a film about a young Han Solo in May 2018.

Ezra Miller Says Of Coming Out As Queer, ‘I Was Told By a Lot of People I’d Made a Mistake’

November 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ezra Miller first came to many people’s attention as the teen title character in We Need to Talk About Kevin back in 2011. Then, going against the grain of most up and coming actors in Hollywood, he spoke to Out in 2012, saying “I’m Queer. I am very much in love with no one in particular.”

It hasn’t affected his career too much though, having starred in the likes of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Madame Bovary, before scoring a couple of massive roles that in 2016 saw him appearing as The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and as Credence Barebone in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

However, it appears some thought he’d ruined his chances of ever getting such high profile gigs when he came out. He told Shortlist recently, “I won’t specify, [but] I was told by a lot of people I’d made a mistake.

“Folks in the industry, folks outside of the industry. People I’ve never spoken to. They said there’s a reason so many gay, queer, gender-fluid people in Hollywood conceal their sexual identity, or their gender identity in their public image. I was told I had done a ‘silly’ thing in… thwarting my own potential to be a leading man.”

He adds, “I was given a lot of stern talking-tos.. ‘You’ve made a mistake’ is such a hard thing to hear. Maybe if I’d actually made a serious mistake? But not for this. I didn’t think I’d done anything wrong, though there have been moments of doubt as a result of those conversations. But… what they said was, in fact, ‘rubbish’, as you might say.”

Miller certainly doesn’t seem to be having any problems with his career. He’s about to appear in cinemas as The Flash once more in Justice League, and will play the character again in the standalone Flash movie, Flashpoint, in 2020. He’ll also return as Credence in the second Fantastic Beasts movie, which is due for release at the end of 2018.

The Post Trailer – Meryl Streep & Tom Hanks star in Spielberg’s free press drama

November 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven Spielberg may be about to turn 71, but he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Indeed, the current political situation (i.e. Trump), caused him to slot in an extra movie that will be out soon, even though he was already busy making the big budget sci-fi movie, Ready Player One.

That extra film is The Post, but despite the fact it seemed to come together very quickly, Spielberg still managed to pull together an impressive cast, including Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys and Alison Brie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In June 1971 The New York Times, the Washington Post and the nation’s major newspapers took a brave stand for freedom of speech and reported on the Pentagon Papers, the massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned four decades and four US Presidents.

‘At the time, the Post’s Katherine Graham (Streep) was still finding her footing as the country’s first female newspaper publisher, and Ben Bradlee (Hanks), the paper’s volatile, driven editor, was trying to enhance the stature of the struggling, local paper. Together, the two formed an unlikely team, as they were forced to come together and make the bold decision to support The New York Times and fight the Nixon Administration’s unprecedented attempt to restrict the first amendment.’

The Post will be released in UK Cinemas on January 19th, 2018. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Sherlock Gnomes Trailer – Back into the animated world of Gnomeo & Juliet

November 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You could be forgiven for having forgotten about the 2011 animated movie Gnomeo & Juliet, but the makers will be hoping audiences are happy to re-enter that world next March. However, rather than taking its inspiration from Shakespeare, this one is going a lttle Arthur Conan Doyle with Sherlock Gnomes.

They’ve even drafted in Johnny Depp to voice the title character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The beloved garden gnomes from GNOMEO AND JULIET are back for a whole new adventure in London. When Gnomeo and Juliet first arrive in the city with their friends and family, their biggest concern is getting their new garden ready for spring. However, they soon discover that someone is kidnapping garden gnomes all over London. When Gnomeo and Juliet return home to find that everyone in their garden is missing – there’s only one gnome to call…SHERLOCK GNOMES. The famous detective and sworn protector of London’s garden gnomes arrives with his sidekick Watson to investigate the case. The mystery will lead our gnomes on a rollicking adventure where they will meet all new ornaments and explore an undiscovered side of the city. This action-packed sequel features the voices of returning cast, James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Stephen Merchant and Ozzy Osbourne, plus Johnny Depp as Sherlock Gnomes, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Watson and Mary J. Blige as Irene.’

The film will be in cinemas next Spring. Take a look at the cinema below. [Read more…]

Final Ferdinand Trailer – The bull gets CGI animated but still doesn’t want to fight

November 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Munro Leaf’s The Story of Ferdinand is one of the classics of American children’s literature, and already inspired a classic Disney short cartoon, Ferdinand The Bull. Now the character is returning with Ferdinand, from Blue Sky, the studio that’s brought us the likes of Ice Age, Rio and The Peanuts Movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, Ferdinand is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover.

‘From Carlos Saldanha (The “Ice Age” and “Rio” Franchises)” and inspired by the beloved book by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, “Ferdinand” is a heartwarming animated comedy adventure from Blue Sky Studios that tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. John Cena (Trainwreck, Daddy’s Home) leads an all-star cast that includes Kate McKinnon (Finding Dory, Ghostbusters, The Angry Birds Movie), Gina Rodriguez (Deepwater Horizon, “Jane the Virgin”), Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”, Transformers), David Tennant (“Broadchurch”, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, “Doctor Who”), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’s Baby, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Bridget Jones’s Diary) and many more.’

The movie will be in cinemas on December 9th. [Read more…]

New Peter Rabbit Trailer – Beatrix Potter’s classic character gets the CGI treatment

November 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Beatrix Potter’s tales have charmed people around the world for decades – but you have to wonder what she would think of this new take on her classic character Peter Rabbit. The new movie mixes live action and CGI, with a modern approach for the mischievous bunny, who here has the voice of James Corden.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers, now takes on the starring role of his own irreverent, contemporary comedy with attitude. In the film, Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door (Rose Byrne).  James Corden voices the character of Peter with playful spirit and wild charm, with Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, and Daisy Ridley performing the voice roles of the triplets, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail.’

The movie will hit cinemas Easter 2018. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Fifty Shades Freed Trailer – Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson are in the Red Room as man & wife

November 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The acting was terrible, the plot virtually non-existent and they weren’t even particularly sexy, but between them, the first two Fifty Shades films pulled in over $900 million at the global box office. Now to finish things off we’re getting Fifty Shades Freed, which might actually have a storyline, going by this trailer (but maybe not).

And thankfully Jamie Dornan is still taking his shirt off!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Freed, the third chapter based on the worldwide bestselling “Fifty Shades” phenomenon. Expanding upon events set in motion in 2015 and 2017’s blockbuster films that grossed almost $950 million globally, the new installment arrives for Valentine’s Day 2018.

‘Fifty Shades Freed is directed by Fifty Shades Darker’s James Foley (Fear) and once again produced by Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Marcus Viscidi, alongside E L James, the creator of the culture-spanning blockbuster series. The screenplay is by Niall Leonard, based on the novel by James.’

An LGBT Scene Got Cut From Thor: Ragnarok That Confimed Valkyrie Is Bisexual

November 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the past few weeks there’s been a slight case of trying to appreciate the crumbs being thrown at us, with the baby steps the Marvel cinematic universe has made towards LGBT inclusion in Thor: Ragnarok. First it was noticed that Korg – a character who’s gay in the comics – would be in the movie, and then actress Tessa Thompson confirmed that her character, Valkyrie, is bisexual.

However, while all that’s been nice to know, there was little in the actual movie to suggest these characters were LGBT.

Things could have been different though, as Rolling Stone reports that Thompson, ‘convinced [director Taika] Waititi to shoot a glimpse of a woman walking out of Valkyrie’s bedroom. He kept it in the film as long as he could; eventually the bit had to be cut because it distracted from the scene’s vital exposition.’

“There were things that we talked about that we allowed to exist in the characterization, but maybe not be explicit in the film,” says Thompson.

However, she adds that there is one moment where Valkyrie’s same sex attractions are very subtly hinted towards, when she reacts to the death of one of her fellow female warriors. “There’s a great shot of me falling back from one of my sisters who’s just been slain,” says Thompson. “In my mind, that was my lover.”

All this is unlikely to stop the criticism of Marvel/Disney for making the MCU so straight. There have been no unequivocally LGBT characters in the films (at least in terms of what we’ve actually seen), and only relatively minor representation in the TV series. As Disney has been routinely criticised by the likes of GLAAD for the lack of LGBT in its film output, the calls for more presentation in Marvel movies has been growing.

Disney Channel’s Andi Mack Banned In Kenya After Gay Coming Out Storyline

November 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kenyan censor Ezekial Mutua has had quite a week, managing to cause international eye-rolling for two separate reasons. He was widely mocked a few days ago for saying that after two male lions were photographed having sex in a Kenyan national park, they must have been copying it after seeing two human men doing it (as no animals could possibly get up to such things without human influence). He also decided to ban the Disney Channel series Andi Mack, because it opened its second season with one of its main character starting on the journey of coming out as gay.

Mutua commented that, “any attempt to introduce gay programming in Kenya will be met with the full force of the law.” He continued that, “homosexuality goes against the collective and values of the people of Kenya”, according to Nairobi News. He also took to Twitter to say, “Children must be given correct information tht family is a union btwn people of opposite gender.”

Andi Mack follows 13-year-old Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), who’s coming to terms with the fact the person she thought was her her older sister is actually her biological mother. The series also charts he friendship with Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush) and Buffy Driscoll (Sofia Wylie), as well as Andi’s feeling for her crush, Jonah Beck (Asher Angel). However in Season 2, Cyrus confides to Buffy that he laso has feeling for Jonah, which the makers have described as the beginning of a journey of self-discovery.

While it was already a successful show for the network, the coming out storyline has seen it reach new heights in the US, up 72% from the series’ launch earlier this year.

Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett Is Out & In A Relationship With A Hottie

November 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For several year now actor and TV host Jonathan Bennett has been living in the ultimate glass closet, where his sexuality has been so well known that many of his friends and associates have publicly ‘outed’ him, without realising that he himself has never spoken about his sexuality. However, now he’s pretty much ‘come out’, by confirming on Instagram that he’s in a relationship with TV presenter and reality TV star Jaymes Vaughan.

Bennett, who’s best known for playing Aaron in Mean Girls, posted a picture of him and Vaughan in Top Gun outfits, along with the comment, ‘Because forgot to post on Halloween. i Love you babe. #mygoose’. He followed that with #Thanks @jaymesv for helping me grow and teaching me how to be a grown ass man. ❤️’.

Vaughan responded with a pic of a message from someone who reached out to him to thank him for being out and proud. He commented, ‘“THIS! THIS is why it is so important to live our truths loudly and proudly. You never know who is watching and you never know who you are inspiring and giving hope to just by simply being yourself.’

A quick perusal of Vaughan’s Insta confirms the previous glass closet status, with numerous pictures of the two of them looking very couply, although without actually saying that’s what they are.

After Mean Girls, Bennett has had roled in the likes of MTV’s Awkward, as well as appearing on Dancing With Stars and presenting Cake Wars and Halloween War. Vaughan is a former Amazing Race contestant who became the first openly gay Chippendale, and now co-present Celebrity Page.
