Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu May Take On Warner’s Jungle Book

December 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alejandro-Gonzalez-InarrituDisney recently announced an October 2015 release date for its planned live-action version of The Jungle, which Jon Favreau may direct. However, Warner Bros, which had been developing its own Jungle Book flick before news of Disney’s broke, isn’t just giving up, as Deadline reports Alejandro Gonzá Iñárrito is in early talks to direct the film.

The 21 Grams and Babel filmmaker would take on the tale of the Indian boy Mowgli, who is raised by wolves and lives among the animals in the jungle. It first appeared in magazines in 1893-94 and was written by Rudyard Kipling.

Callie Kloves will be writing the script for the Warner movie. There’s no news at the moment about when it might shoot.

Life of Pi Writer David Magee To Pen Fourth Narnia Movie, The Silver Chair

December 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

narnia-dawn-treader-preview-poster1After Disney dropped the Narnia movies after Prince Caspian, and 20th Century Fox’s Voyage Of The Dawn Treader didn’t prove a massive hit, most thought that would be last of CS Lewis’ tales to get adapted. However a couple of months ago a film version of The Silver Chair was announced, although with different backers to any of the previous movie.

Now it’s been announced, via Deadline, that screenwriter David Magee, who received an Oscar nomination for writing the Life of Pi, has signed up to write the screenplay for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair.

Mark Gordon is producing the movie and commented, “I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.”

As yet there’s no studio backing the movie, but the hope is that Gordon and co. can put a package together that will tempts investors in.

Ben Foster, Toby Kebbel & Dominic Cooper Join Warcraft

December 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-fosterWith the shoot starting early next year, Legendary Pictures is busy filling out the cast of Warcraft, and they’ve now announced that they have closed deals with Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, Travis Fimmel and Paula Patton to star.

Other actors such as Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Anson Mount and Anton Yelchin have previously been mentioned for unspecified roles, although their involvement isn’t known at this time. It’s particularly notable that Farrell isn’t mentioned as he’s been previously said to have been close to signing, so this suggests he may have moved on.

Duncan Jones is directing from a screenplay that he rewrote, which was originally drafted by Charles Leavitt. The movie is based on the popular multi-player online roleplaying game World Of Warcraft, which is set in a world where players take part in an epic war between the Horde and the Alliance.

Filming begins in Vancouver next month, with a March 2016 release set.

New Pompeii Trailer – Kit Harington has a massive eruption

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday some new images from Pompeii arrived, and now they’ve been followed up by a new trailer, which shows off both Kit Harington’s abs and the fact it wasn’t a good idea to be living close to the famous Italian volcano in 79AD.

The movie is set days before the historic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. It centres on former slave Milo (Harington), who must race to save his true love Flavia (Emily Browning). Jessica Lucas is playing a slave who is a confidante to Flavia. Jared Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje also star.

Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler wrote the original screenplay, which was recently revised by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. Paul W.S. Anderson’s movie is out early next year. It’s certainly looking pretty epic, although also more than a bit over the top [Read more…]

New 300: Rise Of An Empire Trailer – Sullivan Stapleton takes on stylised, homoerotic ancient Greece

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s surprising they managed to invent democracy in ancient Greece, as if the 300 franchise is anything to go by, half the times things happened in slow-motion, before suddenly going really fast. If you’d though replacing Zack Snyder with Noam Murro for 300: Rise Of An Empire would result in a different visual style, it’s clear from the trailers that it won’t.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

‘300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.’

Sullivan Stapleton stars, with a release set for March 2014. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy Trailer – Tom Hiddleston joins the Disney Fairies flick

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney has had a surprising amount of success with its Tinker Bell movies, and for the latest one it’s even recruited Tom Hiddleston to play the man who will eventually become Captain Hook.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow. “Tinker Bell and The Pirate Fairy” is an all-new movie full of comedy, heart and epic thrills for the whole family.

‘Directed by Peggy Holmes, (“Secret of the Wings”) “Tinker Bell and The Pirate Fairy” will set sail in UK cinemas on 14 February 2014.’ [Read more…]

The Monuments Men UK Trailer – George Clooney, Matt Damon & co. are after looted art

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

George Clooney is back in the director’s chair for The Monuments Men, and if this new UK trailer is anything to go by, it looks like it’ll be vying for awards early next year. Clooney also stars alongside Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, and Hugh Bonneville.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.’

It’s due out in the US on December 18th, while it’ll arrive in the UK on January 9th. [Read more…]

New Her Trailer – Joaquin Phoenix & Scarlett Johansson in Spike Jonze’s latest

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Spike Jonze’s Her is already getting plenty of awards buzz, so it’s certainly worth taking a look at this new trailer. Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson star in the film, with the trailer working almost like a short in its own right. It’s something slightly different and yet the same from Jonze, as he’s never really done a proper romantic drama before – even if this is a romance between a man and a computer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer, purchases a newly developed operating system designed to grant the user’s every command. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between himself and the operating system.’

The film’s due out soon. [Read more…]

Five New Amazing Spider-man 2 Images See Andrew Garfield Back In The Swing Of Things

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-new-pic4
With a trailer due tomorrow, Sony Pictures is really amping up the promotion of The Amazing Spider-man. Yesterday we has a synopsis and poster, and today is a quintet of rather cool new images. Take a look at them below along with comments from director Marc Webb.

If you missed it yesterday, here’s the synopsis: ‘We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

‘It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.’

The film’s in UK cinemas next April. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Spidey Vs. Electro - "We wanted some theatricality for this villain. What makes him interesting is the really ironic evolution of the character. He starts off as Spider-Man's biggest fan and ends up being Spider-Man's biggest foe."

"We shot his exterior and then created a glowing light source that is buried deep within his core that exudes and generates electric light. If you look at a cloud when a thunderstorm is coming and the lightning is within that cloud, we use that as a natural inspiration for the character."
