Warcraft: The Beginning (Blu-ray Review)

October 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Travis Fimmel, Paul Patton, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Ben Foster
Director: Duncan Jones
Running Time: 122 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: October 10th 2016 (UK)

In the last few years, Hollywood has become increasingly obsessed with the fast-growing Chinese market. Warcraft: The Beginning is ample evidence as to why that is. The movie was a massive flop in the US, grossing less than $50 million there on a $160 million budget. However, it made over $220 million in China, meaning that instead of being one of the biggest box office disasters ever, they’re now thinking of making a sequel.

The disparity between the US and China reception of this movie is a bit difficult to explain. While American audiences certainly had a lot of choice this summer, it’s a surprise a few more didn’t choose this film, as it’s quite fun. [Read more…]

Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper & More Get Warcraft: The Beginning Character Posters

April 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft-character-poster1-slideAfter a very long wait, the film version of Warcraft is almost upon us. The trailers we’ve had have tended to concentrate on the movie’s intricate fantasy world, so it’s worth releasing this new set of character posters, which introduce to some of the people and creatures we’ll get to meet.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another.  As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction.  From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

‘So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

‘Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production.’

The movie will be in cinemas on May 30th. [Read more…]

New Warcraft: The Beginning Trailer – Travis Fimmel & Ben Foster take us into a fantasy world

March 29, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft the beginning slide2They’ve sure taken a long time to bring us Warcraft: The Beginning. The film shot almost two years ago, but as this trailer shows, the reason for that is that it needed an awful lot of post-production and special effects work to create a convincing fantasy world, which wouldn’t seeming lacking in comparison the Peter Jackson’s take on Middle Earth.

Here’s the snyopsis: ‘The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another.  As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction.  From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

The movie will be in cinemas on May 30th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Warcraft: The Beginning Trailer – Into the fantasy world with Travis Fimmel & Ben Foster

November 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft-poster1-slideFrom the evidence of this trailer, Warcraft: The Beginning certainly looks like it’s going after Middle Earth’s fantasy crown. It definitely seems inspired by Peter Jackson’s Tokien movies while also doing a good job of feeling like it’s set in the world of the Warcraft computer game.

It’ll be in cinemas next June. Take a look at the trailer below.

Travis Fimmel & Rob Kazinsky Amongst Warcraft Film Character Reveals

November 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft-character-pic1Warcraft finished shooting a while ago, but with so many special effects to finish off, it won’t be in cinemas for nearly a year and a half. However Blizzard Entertainment decided that it would be a good time to start introducing us to the movie at their BlizzCon gaming convention in Anaheim, CA.

The panel included Warcraft director Duncan Jones, producers Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, as well as actor Rob Kazinsky, who was on hand to introduce his character, Orgrim, as well as letting us know the other major characters along with their allegiance.

Along with that we got pics of Orgrim and King Llane, as well as some teaser poster and images of the cast. You can take a look at those below, and here’s the info released about the characters in their two groupings – The Alliance and The Horde.

THE ALLIANCE
Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel): The lead protagonist for the Alliance, Lothar is a war hero who has sacrificed everything to keep the people of Azeroth safe.

King Llane Wrynn (Dominic Cooper): King Llane is the leader of the Alliance city of Stormwind and a beacon of hope to its people in a time of darkness.

Medivh (Ben Foster): Known as ‘the Guardian,’ Medivh is a mysterious and reclusive protector who wields formidable power.

Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer): Khadgar is a gifted young mage, embarking on a daring search for the truth.

Lady Taria (Ruth Negga): Taria is the royal Queen of Stormwind, King Llane’s great love and most trusted counsel.

Garona (Paula Patton): Caught between the Alliance and the Horde, Garona is a strong-willed survivor who must decide where her true loyalty lies.

THE HORDE
Durotan (Toby Kebbell): The lead protagonist for the Horde, Durotan is the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, battling to save his people and his family from extinction.

Orgrim (Rob Kazinsky): Orgrim is Durotan’s right hand and a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer: a weapon of orc legend.

Blackhand (Clancy Brown): Known as ‘The Destroyer’, Blackhand is one of orc-kind’s most fearsome and titanic war chiefs.

Ben Foster, Toby Kebbel & Dominic Cooper Join Warcraft

December 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-fosterWith the shoot starting early next year, Legendary Pictures is busy filling out the cast of Warcraft, and they’ve now announced that they have closed deals with Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, Travis Fimmel and Paula Patton to star.

Other actors such as Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Anson Mount and Anton Yelchin have previously been mentioned for unspecified roles, although their involvement isn’t known at this time. It’s particularly notable that Farrell isn’t mentioned as he’s been previously said to have been close to signing, so this suggests he may have moved on.

Duncan Jones is directing from a screenplay that he rewrote, which was originally drafted by Charles Leavitt. The movie is based on the popular multi-player online roleplaying game World Of Warcraft, which is set in a world where players take part in an epic war between the Horde and the Alliance.

Filming begins in Vancouver next month, with a March 2016 release set.

Former Calvin Klein Model Travis Fimmel Will Heat The Screen In World Of Warcraft

October 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Travis-Fimmel-Baytown-Outlaws2-slide
Travis Fimmel first turned heads as a Calvin Klein model, and since then the Aussie has turned actor in the likes of Vikings and The Baytown Outlaws. Now he’s scored his biggest break yet, as Variety reports that after a long search, Legendary Pictures wants him to take the lead role in the adaptation of the World Of Warcraft video game (currently simply titled Warcraft).

No formal offer has been made yet, but sources claim believe Fimmel will indeed sign on for one of the project’s four man characters. Unfortunately it’s known exactly which character he’ll play. He’ll certainly make an extremely handsome addition to the cast – and if you want to see just how hot he is, click here.

Last month it was reported Fimmel was on a short list of candidates, along with the likes of Paul Dano, Anton Yelchin and Anson Mount. It isn’t known if any of those actors will be offered any of the other major role. It was recently revealed that Paula Patton is in talks for a role, and that Colin Farrell was offered another part. Patton’s negotiations are still ongoing, but Farrell’s deal isn’t progressing as quickly.

Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) is directing from a screenplay by Charles Leavitt (Seventh Son). Shooting is scheduled to begin in January in Vancouver. It’s currently due for release on December 18th, 2015.

Crush Of The Day: Baytown Outlaw’s Travis Fimmel

December 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Travis-Fimmel-Baytown-Outlaws2-slideYou might not know his name but you may well remember Travis Fimmel’s rather unforgettable face. The Aussie first came to prominence in the early 2000s with a series of striking ads for Calvin Klein. Indeed, he became such as sensation the he became the first male model to sign a six-figure deal to model exclusively for the designer.

His modelling led to acting, starting with the title role in a short-lived 2003 Tarzan TV series. Since then he’s appeared in smaller films such as Restraint and Surfer Dude, as well as taking a major role opposite Patrick Swayze in the TV show, The Beast.

He also take a big part as one of the violent Oodie brothers in The Baytown Outlaws, which hits DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on December 26th, where he grizzles up his famously good looks with a straggly beard, constant sweat and a bit of grime. He still looks surprisingly good though, and if you don’t think model make good actors, he’ll surprise you as he turns in a very good performance in the film. We’ll also be able to see him next year in the History Channel series, Vikings, where his blond handsomeness should fit well.

The release of Baytown Outlaws is a great excuse to look back at some of the best pics of Travis from both his acting and modelling career, so click on the images below to enlarge. [Read more…]

The Baytown Outlaws (Blu-ray)

December 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Clayne Crawford, Travis Fimmel, Daniel Cudmore, Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria
Director: Barry Battles
Running Time: 99 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 26th 2012

Your enjoyment of The Baytown Outlaws is likely to be directly proportional to how much you like watching assholes (of the figurative not literal kind). There is pretty much nobody in The Baytown Outlaws that could be considered a nice person, and indeed the lead trio are in some respects the worst of the bunch, with their only redeeming feature being that we stick around them long enough to discover there is some humanity under the Southern redneck violence and willingness to kill absolutely anybody without a second thought.
