Before he went off to make Warcraft: The Beginning, Duncan Jones was working on Mute. Now we’re finally getting that film, which is heading to Netflix in a few weeks time.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: In this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) – unable to speak from a childhood accident – searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers. As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent US army surgeons on a mission all their own. This soulful sci-fi journey from filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft) imagines a world of strange currencies in which echoes of love and humanity are still worth listening to.
‘Mute is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson. The film is produced by Stuart Fenegan. Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie are executive producers. Mute will be released on Netflix, February 23, 2018.’

Before he went off to make the mega-budget Warcraft: The Beginning, Source Code and Moon director Duncan Jones was working on Mute. Now he’s gone back to that film, which will be eschewing largely cinemas, due to a very lucrative deal with Netflix.
After a very long wait, the film version of Warcraft is almost upon us. The trailers we’ve had have tended to concentrate on the movie’s intricate fantasy world, so it’s worth releasing this new set of character posters, which introduce to some of the people and creatures we’ll get to meet.
They’ve sure taken a long time to bring us Warcraft: The Beginning. The film shot almost two years ago, but as this trailer shows, the reason for that is that it needed an awful lot of post-production and special effects work to create a convincing fantasy world, which wouldn’t seeming lacking in comparison the Peter Jackson’s take on Middle Earth.
From the evidence of this trailer, Warcraft: The Beginning certainly looks like it’s going after Middle Earth’s fantasy crown. It definitely seems inspired by Peter Jackson’s Tokien movies while also doing a good job of feeling like it’s set in the world of the Warcraft computer game.
Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones has been caught up for the last couple of years making Warcraft: The Beginning, but he’s now going back to a movie he was planning before the fantasy film took over – Mute.
Universal and Legendary have a lot riding on Warcraft (now titled Warcraft: The Beginning to ensure we know it’s planned as the first part of a franchise), as despite videogame to movie adaptations not having a great history at the box office, they’ve pumped hundreds of millions into the movie.
It’s nearly a year since Warcraft finished shooting and also just over a year until its released, but now the first official pic from the upcoming adaptation of the hit videogame has arrived, which suggests the filmmakers are already well on the way to creating a gigantic fantasy world.
Warcraft finished shooting a while ago, but with so many special effects to finish off, it won’t be in cinemas for nearly a year and a half. However Blizzard Entertainment decided that it would be a good time to start introducing us to the movie at their BlizzCon gaming convention in Anaheim, CA.
