World Of Warcraft Adaptation Concept Art Show Up Online

November 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft-concept-art1
After a few false starts, a World Of Warcraft movie is on its way, and to prove it really is gonna get made this time (probably), director Duncan Jones and visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer turned up to BlizzCon 2013 to showcase the video game adaptation.

They also showed off four concept art images, featuring Draenor, home of the Orcs; Dalaran, the magical city floating in the sky; Ironforge, the Dwarfs’ home city; and Stormwind, seat of the Alliance. It seems they’re keen to keep relatively close to the feel of the game, although with much better graphics. You can see them above and below.

During the Q&A session, director Duncan Jones revealed that an early version of the script focused heavily on the humans, but said that’s it now more balanced, “It’s about both sides. It’s going to be red and blue.” He also revealed the story focusses on the battle between the human Anduin Lothar and the Orc Durotan, focusing largely on the Eastern kingdoms of Azeroth.

While no cast members have been confirmed yet, Travis Fimmel has reportedly been offered a leading role, with Colin Farrell and Paula Patton also in talks. It’s believed it will start shooting this January in Canada.

Dan Stevens Bringing Sir Lancelot To Life In Night at the Museum 3

November 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dan-StevensThe Night At The Museum franchise is coming to the UK, and as a result it needs a few British actors. Now it’s got one in the form of former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens, whose star is certainly on the rise.

Ben Stiller is set to reprise his role as night security guard Larry Daley, with Robin Williams also coming back as Teddy Roosevelt. This time, it turns out the it’s not just US museum exhibits that can come to life at night, as Larry and Teddy end up in action in London. Dan Stevens will be Sir Lancelot, who is apparently the main villain in this new adventure.

Shawn Levy returns to direct, from a script by franchise scribes Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. Night At The Museum 3 is currently due for release on December 25th, 2014. (Source: Variety)

Thor: The Dark World Tops The US Box Office With $86.1 Million

November 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thor-the-dark-world-uk-quadThere was no doubt that Thor: The Dark World would top the US box office this weekend, with the only question being how big its opening would be. The first film took $65 million in its opening three days, but The Dark World got an Avengers boost, taking $86 million on its debut.

It’s a great start for the film, especially as there were still some naysayers who wondered whether the character could live on and be a success outside the Avengers franchise. Thor has now proved he can.

The Dark World was the only new opener in the top 10, although Richard Curtis’s About Time made it’s first appearance on the list, moving from 13th to 9th place with $5.1 million, thanks to addition of an extra 1,000 screens.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of November 8th-10th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Thor: The Dark World $86.1 $86.1
2 Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa $11.3 $78.7
3 Free Birds $11.1 $30.1
4 Last vegas $11.1 $33.5
5 Ender’s Game $10.2 $44.0
6 Gravity $8.4 $231.1
7 12 Years A Slave $6.6 $17.3
8 Captain Phillips $5.8 $90.8

Squared Trailer – Challenging the perception that all Asians are bottoms. But what if you’re both tops?

November 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

squared-trailer-pic2
While gay people like to rile against the stereotypes that straight people thrust upon us, there’s no doubt we also have a tendency to come up with plenty of our own – just look at how we’ve come up with artificial groupings like twinks, bears and otters to slot everyone into.

Another that’s particularly prevalent in the US is the idea that Asian gay people are all rather fey bottoms. Well the short film Squared is here to challenge that, and also to ask the question – what happens if you’re both tops?

It’s something I’m surprised people don’t talk about more, especially as I’ve known people who’ve given up on a new relationship with someone they really like, just because the other person preferred the same things they do.

You can take a look at the trailer below. Squared is currently being submitted to film festivals for consideration to be screened in 2014. Find out more at the film’s Facebook page. [Read more…]

New UK Kill Your Darlings Posters With Daniel Radcliffe & Dane DeHaan

November 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

kill-your-darling-uk-posters
Kill Your Darlings has had a limited release in the US, but it doesn’t reach UK cinemas until December 6th. Now the movie’s British distributor, The Works, has released a new poster for the movie, featuring Daniel Radcliffe & Dane DeHaan.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the 1940’s during the early days of the literary revolution, KILL YOUR DARLINGS is a true crime thriller based on the previously untold story of a murder that implicated the men who went on to become the great poets of the Beat Generation; Allen Ginsberg, Lucien Carr, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs.

Based on actual events and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, KILL YOUR DARLINGS tells how these young men first meet at Columbia University in 1944. A story of friendship, obsession, jealousy and genius, their self-proclaimed brilliance is stained by the brutal murder of David Kammerer, which both consecrated and fractured their early fellowship.’

As you probably know by now, Radcliffe plays the gay Ginsberg, and there’s been much talk about the sex scene he gets involved with. Brits will be able to check it out in a few weeks time.

The 3 Bits Queer Web Series Creators Interviewed By Police Due To Coke Snorting Off A Baby Scene

November 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

three-bits-preview
We’ve featured quite a lot of the excellent queer web series The Three Bits, which follows three different members of the Bits family – the gay Henry, lesbian Roman and straight Madison. Now the show has gotten the creators in a bit of trouble with the police, but it wasn’t for anything gay they did.

Nope, the law was fine with the fact Henry’s episodes are about him trying to set up an orgy, but they did want to check up on controversial scene featuring a woman appearing to snort cocaine off a baby’s body.

Because of this scene  actress Erin Markey (who plays Madison) was contacted by authorities on Nov. 4th, according to a press representative for the show. Writer-directors Max Freeman and Margaret Singer told HuffPost they ended up being rather amused by the incident, saying, “After we’d had a minute to sit with the news, we wondered who had called the cops in the first place. It’s a silly skit on youtube, but someone actually picked up the phone, dialed 911, and told them that we were endangering a child.”

They also note that the fuss “reveals the very baby hysteria that the skit was meant to poke at… Did the person not understand that the scenario was fictional? Or, knowing that it was fiction, were they so angry that they wanted us to get in trouble with the cops?” However they have added a disclaimer to the video at the request of the police, which you can see below.

Winona Ryder Says She Was Beaten Up Because People Thought She Was A Gay Boy In High School

November 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

winona-v-magazineWinona Ryder is teaming up with Jason Statham and James Franco for the action-thriller Homefront, and ahead of the release of that movie, she’s been talking to V Magazine about the role and the fact she once had to change schools for being gay bashed.

The magazine quotes her as saying, ‘”The lore! That did happen,” she confirmed, explaining how she dropped out of Kenilworth Junior High School after being gay-bashed by a group of bullies who mistook her for a boy. “I was obsessed with Bugsy Malone and had cut my hair short. I remember the halls were empty and these kids started shouting ‘faggot.’ “‘

It just shows how dumb teenagers and homophobes can be, when they beat up a girl, just in case she’s a gay boy.

Ryder also talks about how she was once fired from a job because of her role in the now classic Heathers. She says, “I was fired once from a movie because I did Heathers! I was cast in a movie and the director saw an advance screening and was offended by it and fired me. It wasn’t until years later that [the film] became more appreciated.”

Spidey Gets Out His Hose In New Amazing Spider-man 2 Pics

November 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-preview-pic14
A trio of new images from The Amazing Spider-man 2 have arrived, thanks to The Times of India (via Superhero Hype), which give a fresh look at Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, as well as a rather unexpected one where Spidey is doing his best fireman impression.

We’re assuming this doesn’t mean he’s joined the NYFD and goes on duty in full costume.

There’s not been too much info released about the exact plot, but we do know he’ll be up against the likes of Electro and Rhino, with suggestions the movie could lead to the formation of the villainous Sinister 6 in The Amazing Spider-man 3. We’ll find out more next month, as a trailer has been promised, attached to The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug. [Read more…]

Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin To Direct Bourne Legacy Sequel

November 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-linUniversal Studios has had massive success with the Justin Lin directed Fast & Furious movies, and it seems that despite Lin having stepped aside from the next movie in the fast cars franchise, the studio wants to stay in business with him. Deadline reports Justin has signed on to direct the planned sequel to The Bourne Legacy.

Last August it was revealed that Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jeremy Renner is expected to return as Treadstone agent Aaron Cross, although no other cast members have been confirmed at this time. There have been some suggestions Universal is once more trying to woo Matt Damon back to star alongside Renner, but at the moment this seems unlikely.

Justin Lin will also produce alongside Frank Marshall, Jeffrey M. Weiner and Ben Smith. It’s not known when it will shoot, but the project is still considered a high priority at Universal.

New Clip From The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Online – Katniss’ job is to be a distraction

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-victory-tour-poster-slide
It’s just a couple of weeks until The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits cinemas, and now we’ve got a clip of Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) telling Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) exactly what her new position in life is supposed to be.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens on November 22, 2013.’ [Read more…]
