Identity Thief Character Posters Emerge, Featuring Jason Bateman & Melissa McCarthy

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Universal Pictures has released two fun character posters for their upcoming comedy Identity Thief, the latest movie from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon. Jason Bateman stars as a man who discovers his identity has been stolen by a woman (Melissa McCarthy) in another part of the country.

Here’s the synopsis, ‘Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (Melissa McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads “Sandy Bigelow Patterson” … and it belongs to an accounts rep (Jason Bateman ) who lives halfway across the U.S.

‘With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.’ The movie is due out March 1st, 2013.

Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer To Direct Spy Hunter

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Zombieland Ruben Fleischer has had a few problems with his upcoming Gangster Squad, after the release was delayed and the ending needed to be reshot following the terrible shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises. However he’s now looking to the future as Vulture reports he has come onboard to direct the long-in-development videogame adaptation, Spy Hunter.

Back in March 2010, Warner Bros. was lining up this adaptation from a screenplay by Chad St. John (Motor City). The studio is seeking new writers to tackle a second draft, which Fleischer can oversee.

The Bally Midway video game was an arcade staple when it debuted in 1983. The story follows a government agent tasked with eliminating rogue spies, with the help of his souped-up car. The project was first set up at Universal nearly a decade ago, with Dwayne Johnson set to star and John Woo directing. Paul W.S. Anderson was attached to direct a few years later, before opting out to make the 2007 action-thriller Death Race. Whether it will actually get into production this time is yet to be seen.

Apes Sequel Eyes Directors Matt Reeves and J Blakeson

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes was thrown into a bit of a confusion last week when director Rupert Wyatt pulled out of the movie, currently titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Now Fox is scrambling to find a replacement, with the hope they can keep the May 2014 release date they’ve set.

At the top of the list at the moment are Matt Reeves (Let Me In), J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intruders), and Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter), Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy), Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) and Rian Johnson (Looper). It is said that Matt Reeves is at the top of the studio’s short list, although the others are still in contention. That may be a bit of a surprise to some, as Reeves is supposed to be putting together a Twilight Zone movie, but apparently he stepped away from that recently, freeing up his schedule.

Wyatt reportedly left because he wasn’t comfortable with meeting the May 26, 2014 release date Fox had already set for the effects heavy film. The studio is hoping to find somebody who thinks that date is do-able. (Source: Deadline)

Dwayne Johnson’s Lore Gets Director Barry Sonnenfeld

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the last 15 years, Barry Sonnenfeld hasn’t had much luck outside the Men In Black franchise, but he’s hoping that will change as the director Barry Sonnenfeld is now in talks to take the helm on Warner Bros.’ fantasy adaptation Lore, according to Deadline.

Dwayne Johnson signed up to star in April, with Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott writing the screenplay, adapted from the graphic novel by Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise. The story is set in a world where a secret society of Shepherds guard against creatures from folklore that actually exist. When the chain of command is broken, a young hero must do whatever it takes to stop these beasts.

Barry Sonnenfeld last directed this past summer’s Men in Black 3, which took in over $620 million worldwide. It isn’t known when Lore might shoot.

Ben Whishaw In Talks For Spielberg’s Robopocalypse

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ben Whishaw, who will soon be seen in Cloud Atlas and Skyfall this autumn, is circling another major major, as he’s in talks for a bigr role in Robopocalypse for DreamWorks and director Steven Spielberg, according to Variety.

An official offer has yet to go out to the actor, although DreamWorks has had him at the top of their list to play a computer hacker named Lurker. Chris Hemsworth is up for the male lead, while Anne Hathaway has been approached to take on the female lead.

Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard is writing the adapted screenplay based on Daniel H. Wilson’s novel. The story is set in the aftermath of a robot uprising, exploring the fate of the human race now that the machines have taken over.

Here’s the novel’s synopsis from Amazon, ‘Not far into our future, the dazzling technology that runs our world turns against us. Controlled by a childlike—yet massively powerful—artificial intelligence known as Archos, the global network of machines on which our world has grown dependent suddenly becomes an implacable, deadly foe. At Zero Hour—the moment the robots attack—the human race is almost annihilated, but as its scattered remnants regroup, humanity for the first time unites in a determined effort to fight back. This is the oral history of that conflict, told by an international cast of survivors who experienced this long and bloody confrontation with the machines. Brilliantly conceived and amazingly detailed, Robopocalypse is an action-packed epic with chilling implications about the real technology that surrounds us.’

Plot Revealed For Matt Riddlehoover’s New Gay Themed Film As Funding Campaign Is Launched

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the last couple of months we’ve posted a few stories about Matt Riddlehoover’s planned new gay-themed film, mainly concerning the casting for the movie. The likes Chris Crocker, Josey Greenwell, Charlie David, Jared Allman, Enrique Sapene, and Scenes From A Gay Marriage helmer Riddlehoover himself, are all set to appear in the movie. However what we haven’t known is the plot of the film.

Now a fundraising campaign has been launched over at IndieGoGo, and with it we’ve got some info on the story. Here it is, ‘Two men – a Venezuelan med student (Enrique Sapene) and an American actor-turned-massage therapist (Matt Riddlehoover) – meet and fall in love. They begin living together in a quaint West Hollywood apartment, along with their fitness guru roommate (Cesar D’ La Torre). On the eve of their one-year anniversary, the Venezuelan’s aunt (Maria Conchita Alonso) unexpectedly shows up. She’s a wreck, in the middle of a very difficult time, and expects to stay until she’s back on her feet.

‘To complicate matters further, the Venezuelan’s mother (Alonso, in a dual role) flies in for an extended stay. She’s old fashioned, God fearing, and outwardly disapproves of her son’s sexuality. Understandably, the couple’s flame begins to dwindle. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, they head Southeast to a property where the American spent his childhood. However, they are unaware that his unemployed brother (Charlie David) currently occupies the house with a group of misfit friends.

‘There’s one who’s reeling from a recent gay bashing (Chris Crocker), and another who’s hysterical from an unwanted pregnancy (Thashana McQuiston). Meanwhile, the brother – who is also gay – finds himself caught between romantic entanglements (Jonathan D. Lovitz and Josey Greenwell). During a storm-induced power outage, the couple must decide what’s most important… their relationship, families, or individual sanity!’

If that sounds like something you’d like to see, then the IndieGoGo campaign is currently looking for $25,000 to help with a range of production needs. You can find out more over at the IndiGogo site, and/or by watching the video below. A variety of great perks are available for contributing to the film’s IndieGoGo campaign, from a digital download of the film to a signed copy of the DVD, a producer credit to an on-set visit.

Shooting on the currently untitled movie will begin Spring 2013. Half of the film will be shot in and around Los Angeles, California. The other half will be shot in the mountains of Hiawassee, Georgia, and a waterfront location in Charleston, South Carolina.

First Images Of Firth & Kidman In The Railway Man

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first images from the movie The Railway Man have debuted via the Russian site Kinopoisk, giving us a look at Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman in the true story movie that’s set for release next year.

Director Jonathan Teplitzky’s (Burning Man) film is is based on Eric Lomax’s autobiography, which details his capture by Japanese soldiers in World War II, where he was sent to work on the infamous “death railway” in Burma. The story is split between his capture as a young soldier, and his life as an adult who still can’t fully grasp the torturous experience.

Colin Firth plays the adult Eric Lomax, while War Horse’s Jeremy Irvine will portray the younger version. Kidman is his wife, Patti, who convinces him to set off on a journey to try and reconcile with his former captors.

Argo Character Posters Hit The Web

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Argo certainly has a good cast, and some new character posters are trying to prove it, with pics of Ben Affleck, John Goodman and Alan Arkin arriving via the movie’s Facebook page.

Argo ‘chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis – the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the US embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.’

Affleck also directs the movie, which hits US cinemas in October, with a UK release set for November 7th.

Jay Baruchel Tweets Plans For Goon 2

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jay Baruchel has taken to Twitter to says he’s busy planning Goon 2, a sequel to Michael Dowse’s indie hit comedy film Goon, which opened to surprisingly good reviews and healthy box office last year. As with the first movie, Baruchel will be writing the sequel, although this time with Jesse Chabot rather than Evan Goldberg.

Goon stars Seann William Scott as ex-bouncer Doug Glatt, whose prowess with his fists lands him on a mediocre semi-pro hockey team. Despite the fact Glatt’s not great at the hockey part of the game, he helps lead the team to victory. The film was based on a book by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith, titled Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey.

Here is what Jay Baruchel had to say about the upcoming sequel in a series of Tweets, ‘I’d like to say thank you to all of you for all the GOON 2 love. You guys are wicked.’ We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required. HIGH. LAND. ERS.’ ‘Evan Goldberg will be involved as a producer and we will all be working our asses off to make as awesome a flick as possible.’ ‘And YES @mdowse is directing the motherfucker!#gaypornhard.’

There’s no news on when it might shoot, although presumably Seann William Scott is also involved with the film.
