Keira Knightley Gets Female Lead in Jack Ryan Reboot

August 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago, it was revealed that Keira Knightley was high on the shortlist for the female lead in Paramount’s planned Jack Ryan reboot, which has Chris Pine attached for the lead and Kenneth Branagh directing. Now Keira’s been chosen after Branagh auditioned several actresses and has gone into negotiations for the part.

Pine will play Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, an ex-Marine who now works as a financial analyst in Moscow, in a tale that takes the character back to his early days, before he joined the CIA. When he discovers his employer’s plan to finance a terrorist attack on the American economic system, Jack Ryan races to save the country and his future wife (Keira Knightley). Director Kenneth Branagh is also starring as the villain.

David Koepp wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, from an original draft by Adam Cozad. Production is slated to begin next month. (Source: THR)

Great New Skyfall Character Posters Arrive

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A set of rather slick new characters posters and a banner have arrived for Skyfall via the movie’s Facebook page, with everyone in their Sunday finest and looking rather glam (although Javier Bardem still looks rather weird as a blond). The posters feature Daniel Craig as James Bond, Bardem as the villainous Silva, Berenice Marlohe as Severine and Naomie Harris as Eve.

The movie is due to hit UK cinemas on October 26th, before reaching the US on November 9th. Hopefully we’ll get plenty more cool stuff before then.

Antiviral Poster – New promo for Brandon Cronenberg’s directorial debut

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If your dad is David Cronenberg, it’s not surprising if your directorial debut is going to be a little bit creepy and follow some of your father’s body horror interests. Brandon Cronenberg has made Antiviral, which debuted at Cannes and will play TIFF next month. The sci-fi film follows Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones), an employee of an unusual company that sells celebrity diseases to deranged fans. By becoming infected with the same viruses that have afflicted their favourite stars, these disturbed celebrity devotees hope to get a little closer to their famous idols. But when Syd is infected by a disease that took the life of a young starlet (Sarah Gadon), he suddenly finds that he has become a twisted collector’s item.

First Images From Pixar’s Partysaurus Rex Appear

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While at the moment there’s no promise of another full-length Toy Story movie, Pixar has been putting together some shorts featuring the beloved characters. The first, Hawaiian Vacation played in cinemas alongside The Muppets, and now they’re gearing up for Toy Story: Partysaurus Rex, which will debut in the US in front of Finding Nemo 3D on September 14th.

Two images from the short have been released, via EW. The toon focuses on Wallace Shawn’s Rex, who gets picked for a bit of bath time fun with Bonnie.

Saoirse Ronan To Play Mary Queen Of Scots

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Saoirse Ronan has signed on to star in the title role of Mary Queen of Scots for Working Title and producers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. Michael Hirst (Elizabeth and its sequel) is on screenplay duties, with the producers currently seeking a director.

Mary Queen of Scots was crowned the Queen Regnant of Scotland after her father, James V of Scotland, died when she just six days old. Her first husband also became the King of France, making her the queen consort in 1559. He then died the following year.

Her reign went downhill from there, after marrying her first cousin before he was murdered. She then married the man accused of killing her former husband, which caused an uprising that resulted in her imprisonment. After 18 years confinement, she was executed for her alleged part in an assassination attempt on England’s Queen Elizabeth I, Mary’s cousin. She was certainly busy!

If a director can be found in the near future, the producers hope to start filming sometime next year. (Source: Deadline)

Heather Graham Back For Hangover III

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hangover Part III is coming full circle, bringing the franchise back to Las Vegas for the third and (allegedly) final installment. Today, we have word via Variety that Heather Graham will reprise her role as Jade from The Hangover.

The actress didn’t appear in last summer’s The Hangover Part II, which took the action to Thailand. However the return of Graham sets up some potential fireworks, since Stu (Ed Helms) got married to Jade during The Hangover, and the sequel was set around Stu’s wedding with his new fiancée Lauren (Jamie Chung). It isn’t known yet if Jamie Chung will be back as Stu’s current wife.

No specific plot details have been released for this final sequel, except that the Wolf Pack (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis) is going back to Vegas. Mike Epps will also return as Black Doug from the first installment, while franchise regulars Mike Tyson and Ken Jeong are also back. Todd Phillips is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Craig Mazin. Filming is scheduled to begin this autumn.

Amityville Horror Getting A Found Footage Remake?

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Producer Tony DeRosa-Grund is moving forward with a currently untitled project that apparently expands the mythology behind The Amityville Horror. What ‘expanding’ seems to mean is that the film will fall into the current vogue for found footage flicks and move things from a family moving into a haunted house, to two journalists investigating the case.

The original 1979 thriller is based on an actual house in the Long Island neighborhood of Amityville, where Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six family members in 1974. One year later, George Lutz and his family moved into the house, where they claim to have encountered horrific, paranormal events that forced them to move out just 28 days later (and to make a lot of money out of a book about it).

This new project will be based on the experiences of Laura DiDio and Marvin Scott, two journalists who investigated the case for WNEW-TV in New York. Their original news report was thought to be lost after the TV station got rid of its archives. However, a new copy of the report was unearthed, along with additional footage from the reporters. The actual footage will not be used in the movie, only serving as a base for the story.

Tony DeRosa-Grund and his Evergreen Media Group acquired the rights to the reporters’ account of a seance that took place in the house on March 6, 1976. The news report supposedly revealed the presence of supernatural beings, including a young boy in the house. The project doesn’t have a writer or director attached yet, although the producer plans to shop it around to studios.

Sean Penn Set To Direct Crazy for the Storm

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sean Penn is fairly sporadic as a director. He’s helmed four films since 1991, the last being Into The Wild in 2007. Now he’s eyeing a return to the director’s chair, entering negotiations to direct Crazy For The Storm at Warner Bros. He’ll only direct and not star in the drama.

The movie will be based on Norman Ollestad’s memoir, which centres on the writer’s relationship with his father, who taught him several different skills from a very young age. The plot also focuses on how those traits saved his life, when he was stranded on a mountaintop after surviving a plane crash, so there’s a bit of a thematic link to Into the Wild with this one.

Will Fetters is adapting the screenplay, but it isn’t known when the movie might shoot. (Source: Variety)

Steve Pink Drawn To Sexual Perversity in Chicago

August 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Steve Pink is best known for knock-about comedies like Hot Tub Time Machine and Accepted, but he’s planning to head in a slightly different direction as he’s now negotiations to take the helm on Screen Gems’ About Last Night remake, now called Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

Sexual Perversity in Chicago is the title of David Mamet’s original play that the 1986 Rob Lowe and Demi Moore film comedy About Last Night was adapted from. The story centres on a man (Michael Ealy) and a woman who strike up a romantic relationship, even though their friends aren’t happy about it.

Kevin Hart and Regina King are attached to star as Bernie Litgo and Joan, played by James Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins in the original. They are still looking for the main female lead.

Leslye Headland (Bachelorette) is writing the script, with William Packer and Will Gluck (Think Like a Man) attached as producers. Production will start this fall. (Source: Deadline)
