Actor Alan Cumming Marries His Husband In New York

January 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alan Cumming sure likes getting married to his partner as he’s now done it twice (sort of). Five years ago the bisexual star of The Good Wife and X-Men 2 entered a civil partnership with his longterm squeeze, Grant Shaffe. Now he’s announced that on the anniversary of that civil partnership, he and Grant got married in New York.

A few months ago, New York became the sixth US state to allow same sex couples full marriage rights, something Alan has decided to take advantage of.

When announcing the news, Cumming couldn’t help taking a swipe at idiotically anti-gay Republican Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, saying ‘On the 5th anniversary of our wedding in London grant and I tied the knot again in NYC!!! #eatmericksantorum’.

Santorum hasn’t just said he’s against gay marriage, but also hopes to have all the marriages already performed in the US anulled if he becomes Commander In Chief.

Bruce Almighty Getting A True Sequel

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Bruce Almighty was a big hit back in 2003, grossing $484 million. At the time Jim Carrey was a huge star and didn’t want to make a sequel, so they made Evan Almighty instead, centring on Steve Carrell’s character from the original movie. That movie, however, was a huge flop.

However now Carrey’s career is on the slide and so he’s more amenable to making another Bruce Almighty movie, and it seems Universal’s pretty keen too. Variety says the studio’s hired Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel to write a direct sequel to Bruce Almighy, which centres on Carrey’s character. The duo were credited alongside Nicholas Stoller on the script for Yes Man and have written the in-development Danny McBride film Bullies.

There’s no news on exactly what direction they’re going with for Bruce Almighty 2, or if it’ll simply be Carrey getting to be God for a bit longer. Nor do we know is Morgan Freeman will return as the almighty Himself (let’s hope so though).

Garrett Hedlund Going Inside Llewlyn Davis

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Garrett Hedlund got a big break with TRON:Legacy and since then he’s been showing off his indie credentials with the likes of the upcoming adaptation of On The Road. While he’ll go back to the mainstream if they ever get the live action Akira off the ground, he’s currently staying in indie territory, as Variety reports he’s in negotiations to join the cast of Inside Llewyn Davis for directors Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

Hedlund’s apparently been interested in the part for a while, but he’s been hanging around waiting for Akira to get sorted and so couldn’t sign on for the Coens’ movie. However over the weekend Warner shut down pre-production of that movie while they rework the budget, allowing Garrett to sign up for Inside Llewlyn Davis..

The film centres on Oscar Isaac’s title character, a folk musician during the 1960s who navigates throughout the Greenwich Village scene. As the Coens are keeping exact details on the film quiet, he isn’t immediately known who Garrett Hedlund will play, but he will join a cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, and John Goodman.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen are directing Inside Llewyn Davis from their own script, which is loosely based on the life of folk singer Dave Van Ronk. Production is scheduled to start within the next few months in New York City.

Paul Feig Directing The Better Woman

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

While there’s still uncertainty over whether a sequel to Bridesmaids will ever happen (Universal wants one, Kristen Wiig doesn’t, and Melissa McCarthy won’t do it without Wiig), the director of the 2011 hit, Paul Feig, is reuniting with Universal for the comedy project The Better Woman, according to Variety.

Amy Sherman (Gilmore Girls) is writing the script, which is about a successful young executive who gets dumped by her boyfriend for an older woman. She becomes friends with the older lady to find out why her boyfriend left her, and reinvents herself along the way. Reese Witherspoon was previously circling the project, but the actress is no longer involved.

Paul Feig is still loosely circling the planned Bridesmaids, but it is said he is “hesitant to commit” to the sequel since writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are working on other projects and unless the studio can woo them, seem determined not to return.

Girl In Progress Trailer

January 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The coming of age movie is a bit of a staple, and they range from great to truly dreadful. However it looks like Girl In Progress might be one of the better ones. The film follows a 13-year-old girls who’s been somewhat negelcted by her imperfect mother (Eva Mendes) and looks to a teen rite-of-passage as a way of changing her life. The film will be out later this year.

LOL Trailer

January 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Last Song suggested Miley Cyrus might have a decent post-Hannah Montana movie career, but if this trailer is anything to go by, LOL is determined throw away any goodwill Miley might have had. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In a world connected by YouTube, iTunes, and Facebook, Lola (Cyrus) and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola’s mom, Anne (Demi Moore), “accidentally” reads her teenage daughter’s racy journal, she realises just how wide their communication gap has grown. Through hilarious and heartfelt moments between mother and daughter, LOL is a fresh coming-of-age story for modern times.’ The film’s due out June 1st.

Universal Gets A New 100th Anniversary Logo

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, Paramount unveiled a new logo marking its 100th Anniversary and now Universal is following suit with a fresh logo to celebrate its centenary. It’s the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the studio’s rich film history and cultural legacy.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will kick off the celebration with a special 50th anniversary release of To Kill a Mockingbird, debuting on Blu-ray for the first time ever.

Police Academy Remake Gets A Director

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Amongst the many thousands of remakes in the works in Hollywood is one of 80s comedy classic Police Academy, which is now moving moving forward at New Line with Deadline reporting that Scott Zabielski’s been hired to direct it. The film will mark Scott Zabielski’s feature directorial debut, after serving as a director and producer on the Comedy Central series Tosh.0.

The studio first started working on a new version of Police Academy back in October 2010, when Paul Maslansky, who produced all the original Police Academy movies, set the project up. It’s taken a while but now they have a director, with a screenwriter now being sought.

Although this will be Scott Zabielski’s first feature film, he does have a bit of experience, which will come in handy. He went through the real police academy and currently serves as a reserve police officer in West Hollywood.

Channing Tatum Gets Side Effects

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After Steven Soderbergh’s plans to make The Man From UNCLE fell through, he quickly moved to replace it with a movie called The Side Effects. With the director hoping to start shooting in April, he’s now starting to cast the film, with Blake Lively, Jude Law, and Channing Tatum have joined the cast of The Side Effects (previously known as The Bitter Pill) for director Steven Soderbergh, according to ThePlaylist.

The story centres on Emily Hawkins (Blake Lively), a young woman who becomes dependent on prescription drugs out of fear her husband will be released from prison soon. Channing Tatum will play the husband, and Jude Law will portray Emily’s new therapist. Doesn’t sounds like a barrel of laughs but could be interesting.

Steven Soderbergh is directing from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion).

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A few months ago a low-quality pic from Warm Bodies popped up online, but now the first proper image have emerged. As you can see, Nicholas Hoult isn’t looking too healthy, and that’s becuase he’s a zombie.

The movie is based on the novel by Isaac Marion, with Hoult playing an angsty zombie named R who strikes up a friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims and sets off a chain of events that eventually affects all of zombie society. The movie is directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Wackness), and should be in cinemas this summer.
