Jason Momoa In Talks For The Crow Reboot Lead

August 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-momoaWhile Jason Momoa is a fine actor, you have to wonder whether he’s now in talks to lead the planned remake of The Crow, because he’s the only actor left who hasn’t been attached at some point or another. Jack Huston, Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum are just a few of the actors who’ve been attached or rumoured for the movie in the past few years.

The list of directors who’ve come and gone isn’t much shorter either.

Mashable had the news Momoa is in talks for The Crow, playing Eric Draven, who is killed and comes back as the supernatural The Crow, in order to seek revenge. Corin Hardy is set to direct the movie, which is said to be closer to the original comic book source than earlier films.

Anne Hathaway & Rihanna Join All-Female Ocean’s 11 Spin-Off

August 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anne-hathawayWarner Bros. is moving fast to complete the main cast of their planned female-led spin-off from Ocean’s 11 currently called Oceans Ocho. They already have Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, with Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling recently said to be joining.

Now a few more great actresses are coming onboard, with THR reporting that Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Awkwafina are all likely to sign on. That just leaves one of the the eight female thieves to be cast.

Rumours suggest Bullock’s character may be Danny Ocean’s sister, but no plot details have been released. Hunger Games helmer Gary Ross should start shooting the movie either later this year or early next year, with filming believed to be taking place in New York. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the Ocean’s 11 trilogy, will produce.

Feral Trailer – Take a look at the upcoming series about gay life and love in the Bible Belt

August 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

feral-slide2Like HBO’s Looking or Girls, but set in Memphis, Tennessee. That’s how creator Morgan Jon Fox characterises Feral, a Dekkoo.com original TV series that debuts October 6th.

In Feral, Fox (who also serves as the series writer and director), weaves a tale of survival as a group of gay 20-something’s learn about love, loss and friendship while living in the vibrant, artistic queer community of Memphis. The storyline revolves around the lives of Billy and Daniel, two best friends sharing a comfortably broken in bungalow in the diverse neighbourhood of Midtown. It begins when the two are forced to kick out their third roommate, after discovering his heroin addiction.

Known for gritty southern stories about characters on the fringe, Fox describes his protagonists as, “…kids who are left on their own, whether it’s financially, whether it’s identity, or whether their lovers are deceased. Whatever that is, they’re left to their own devices to carve their own way. They’re ‘Feral’ beings.”

While shows like Looking and Girls may have provided the template, Fox believes the Middle America Memphis setting and vibe is what sets Feral refreshingly apart from its predecessors. “You won’t see the gay stereotypes you see in shows set on the West or East Coast,” promises Fox. “Now, my characters have their issues, but I didn’t want them to be based in cynicism. I wanted their motives and struggles to be pure and honest in a way that wasn’t just, ‘I’m a spoiled rich person without meaning in my life…’

“There are so many stories that are set in New York or L.A., but I feel that we have a story to tell that is uniquely southern. Memphis is a big city, but because we are in a sense living off the grid, in the Bible Belt, and without the supportive institutions that exist in big coastal cities, we have created our own community, and I think that’s what’s so beautiful about coming up in Memphis.”

Fox has directed four feature films including, Blue Citrus Hearts, OMG/HaHaHa and This Is What Love In Action Looks Like – all informed by his painful coming out as a gay man in the conservative south – and has been called one of the originators of the ‘Memphis Style’ of filmmaking, known for strong, authentic performances, improvised scripts and tight editing. Filmmaker Magazine named him as one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film”.

Feral with debut exclusively on Dekkoo.com on October 6th, 2016. Dekkoo (pronounced ‘DECK-koo’) is a subscription-based streaming service dedicated to gay men. It provides the largest streaming collection of gay-centric entertainment available, boasting a larger selection than Netflix or Amazon Video. Dekkoo is available via iTunes, Google Play, AppleTV and Roku. Feral marks its first foray into original programming. [Read more…]

Seth Rogen Offers His Thoughts On Justin Bieber & Orlando Bloom’s Penises

August 8, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-rogenOver the past few days many thousands of people have been offering their thoughts on the man bits of Justin Bieber and Orlando Bloom, after nude pics of the actors were taken on holiday (they were on different holidays with their girlfriends, before you get too excited). However, most of those opinions were offered by straight women and gay men.

Other people have been taking a look though, and it turns out that includes Seth Rogen, who gave his thoughts on Watch What Happens Live. Host Andy Cohen asked him, “Who would you say, as a straight guy, had the nicer penis of the two?… Who’s is nicer, would you say?”

While some straight guys would have pretended they hadn’t seen then, Rogen jumped right in, sounding like a bit of a celebrity penis connoisseur, saying, “I’ve seen Justin’s before, so maybe I was just like, ‘I’ve been there, done that a little bit. And it’s wonderful, but Orlando’s I was really happy with. Good for him! He’s in great shape overall. So, I thought, honestly, Orlando’s probably a bigger guy and proportionally, his penis, it looked to scale, which makes me think overall, it’s probably bigger.”

Does that mean Seth Rogen is a straight size queen? Who knows?! Take a look at Seth talking Bieber/Bloom willies below. [Read more…]

Iris Prize Announces Its LGBT Short Film Prize Shortlist

August 8, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iris-prize-10-years-slideIt’s only a couple of months until the annual Iris Prize Festival in Cardiff, which includes the £30,000 International LGBT Short Film Prize, supported by The Michael Bishop Foundation, which continues to be the world’s largest international LGBT short film prize. The 35 shorts competing this year have now been announced, which includes the largest number of international films competing in the prize’s 10-year history, with 17 countries represented, including for the first time Taiwan

25 have been nominated by a number of partner festivals, with 10 chosen by a pre-selection jury from a record number of over 300 films entered through open submissions.

Filmmakers from Russia, UK and Australia create darkly compelling stories rooted in the horror genre, reflecting the wider interest in fantasy enjoyed by the LGBT community. Equally, a sobering number of this year’s entries address concerns about growing old and the emotional dilemmas that we face with ageing.  This year’s selection explores LGBT stories from all corners of the globe including Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Spain, India, US, Canada, and Taiwan.

The highest number of entries come from US, with 8 films represented, followed by Australia with 6 films and Canada with 3 films. The UK is one of six countries with two films in competition (although Iris Prize does have a separate UK LGBT Short Film Prize) alongside Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Italy and Brazil.

Fittingly in this 10th anniversary year, there are a number of Iris alumni who have been nominees in previous years and are now returning with their latest project.

Andrew Pierce, Iris Prize Chair, comments, “With the shortlist for this year’s Iris Prize now announced, I am thrilled by the high standard of entries for this 10th anniversary year. Having been involved in the festival since its inception, I have been delighted to see not only the number of films being submitted increasing year on year but also the quality of the filmmaking itself. We get to see wide world view of the LGBT community with submissions from countries as diverse as USA, Australia, Sweden, Italy and India.

“Furthermore”, he continues, “I am delighted that the number of partner festivals continues to expand, with five more now nominating a film for the shortlist. This is a testament to the growing reputation of the festival on the global stage and how prestigious the Iris Prize has now become”.

The films will screen during this year’s Iris Prize Festival which takes place from October 12th-16th in Cardiff, Wales. The winner of the Iris Prize will be announced on Sunday October 16th, 2016 during the Iris Awards hosted by Amy Lamé.

Thank You (Gay Adult Short Film Review)

August 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Vince
Director: Noel Alejandro
Running Time: 21 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: Out Now

Most of the time the term ‘art-porn’ isn’t quite correct. It refers to explicit sexuality in films that are otherwise ‘normal’ movies, with the ‘porn’ term used because erections and real sex are normally the preserve of that genre. However, the likes of Shortbus, Intimacy, Romance and others can’t really be considered porn. Indeed, many of these movies seem absolutely determined that despite how explicit they are, what they’re showing must not be considered erotic in any way, as if admitting that would diminish their legitimacy (Shortbus being an exception, which isn’t afraid to suggest sex can be fun).

However, Noel Alejandro’s short film Thank You, legitimately is ‘art porn’, joining the likes of Travis Mathews’ I Want Your Love and TheBlackSpark Project as something that is unabashedly erotic but aspires to be more than solely about getting people off. The setup is classic porn – two men come together and have very explicit sex, with the majority of the running time taken up with foreplay, BJs and screwing. In other ways though it’s something a little more. It has a simple but effective plot, decent acting and a genuine filmmaker’s interest in lighting, shot composition and editing. [Read more…]
