Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice – Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray Review)

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams
Director: Zack Snyder
Running Time: 182 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 1st 2016 (UK)

As they say, ‘The higher you climb, the further there is to fall’. That’s a fair description of Batman v Superman, a film that you certainly can’t fault for its ambition, but which can’t reach the heights it strives for despite its best efforts. After an exceedingly mixed reaction at cinemas, the film comes to Blu-ray in an Ultimate Edition form, which adds in an extra 30 minutes of footage and adds back in some of the violence that US censors wouldn’t permit to get it a PG-13 certificate.

Some hoped this new version would rectify all the flaws of the theatrical cut. It doesn’t do that, but it does help a little, particularly with some of the subplots where the theatrical version had bits of them, but where they either petered out or didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It does add a couple of extra problems though. [Read more…]

Tyler Posey Says Sorry For His Snapchat ‘I’m Gay’ Post

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tyler-PoseyA couple of days ago Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey confused a lot of people with a Snapchat post of him standing next to a street sign for ‘Gay St.’, and saying ““I am this, and this is me. I’ve never felt more alive!… I’m gay!”. Many assumed it was a joke, others thought he was being serious and coming out, and others were merely confused, not helped by another post shortly afterwards where he was stood next to a street light where he said, “I’m lamp”.

Even many who assumed he wasn’t serious were unimpressed by what they saw as a rather juvenile joke that was potentially belittling to gay people, as it assumes something is hilariously funny just because it’s called ‘gay’. Other wondered whether it was mocking the importance of the coming out process.

Not too long after the confusing post, MTV, which makes Teen Wolf, denied Posey was gay and said they believed he was meaning the word in the sense of being happy. The actor himself then took to Twitter to apologise, saying, “I am a big proponent of love over hate, and standing together during divisive times… Although I’m not gay, I fully support the LGBTQ community. This was a moment intended to reflect that… And everyone, I am truly sorry to the people I’ve offended or lessened how big coming out is. I just want to spread love in this world.”

Posey has previously shown himself to be supportive of LGBT rights and has publicly expressed support for Teen Wolf co-stars Charlie Carver and Colton Haynes after they came out. He’s also known for having a mischievous sense of humour which in this instance seems to have gotten the better of him.

Take a look at the original video and Posey’s apology below: [Read more…]

Chris Evans May Become A New Version Of Dr. Jekyll

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-EvansChris Evans hasn’t been having a huge amount of luck outside the Marvel Universe, because as much as audiences love him as Captain America, they haven’t shown much interest in most of the other movies he’s made in the past few years. Admittedly that’s because some of them were rubbish, while others deserved a bigger audience (e.g. Snowpiercer) but didn’t get a big release.

Perhaps he will have better luck with a new take on a different classic character than Steve Rogers, as Deadline reports he’s circling the title role in Jeykll, based on Doctor Who head honcho Steven Moffat’s 2007 mini-series. The show starred James Nesbitt as a the descendant of Dr. Jekyll from Robert Louis Steveson’s classic novel. However, he finds that having a dangerous alter-ego hasn’t been left in the past when he begins suffering from Mr. Hyde-life symptoms.

While Jekyll attempts to find a way to get the two sides to co-exist, things become increasingly complicated as the two sides living within him start communicating with each other via notes, and Hyde starts interacting with Jekyll’s family. From that synopsis you have to wonder whether Evans has a little Hulk envy, as it certainly touches of similar themes to that character.

No deal has been signed for Chris to star as yet, but he’s definitely interested. If he does fill the role, he wouldn’t be the only Jekyll around, as Russell Crowe recently signed on to play the character in Universal’s interconnected monster universe, starting with next year’s The Mummy.

Morgan Freeman Joining Misty Copeland & Mackenzie Foy In Disney’s Nutcracker

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

morgan-freemanDisney has invested a lot of money in turning its classic animated movies into live-action movies, and for a while it’s working on a few other classic tales, including a film based around The Nutcracker And The Mouse King. The movie already has Misty Copeland & Mackenzie Foy attached to star, and now Variety reports that Morgan Freeman is in talks to join them.

The film is ‘is based on the 1816 story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffmann in which a girl named Clara is charged by her parents with taking care of a Christmas toy Nutcracker doll – which comes to life and defeats an evil Mouse King with seven heads.’ It will also take on elements of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet.

Foy is attached to the role of Clara, while Freeman would be her mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. Copeland is onboard as the lead ballerina. Lasse Hallstrom is set to direct the movie.

Meryl Streep In Talks To Star Alongside Emily Blunt In Disney’s Mary Poppins Sequel

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

meryl-streepThere are very few movies that wouldn’t be made better by the presence of Meryl Streep, and we can’t imagine Disney’s planned sequel to Mary Poppins will be any difference. Emily Blunt if already signed up for the central role with Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda in the equivalent of the Dick Van Dyke role, and now Variety reports that Streep may well join her.

While the 1960s movie was mainly based in the first of Travers’ books, the new movie will explore Mary’s further adventures with the Banks family and beyond as illustrated by Travers’ seven additional novels. The the film will see Mary returning to help a grown-up Michael and Jane Banks, as well as their children, after a major events takes place in their lives.

Streep will play ‘Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, a supporting role that wasn’t in the 1964 classic’. It will also give her another chance to show off her singing skills.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash) will write the songs, with David Magee writing the script. Rob Marshall, who worked with Streep in Into The Woods, is set to direct.

Nick Jonas May Join Dwayne Johnson In Jumanji Reboot

July 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nick-jonas-shirtlessThe planned reboot of Jumanji is fast coming together, with Dwayne Johnson set to star and Kevin Hart and Jack Black recently said to be in talks to join him. Now someone else may be joining them, with THR reporting that Nick Jonas is in negotiations for the movie.

It’s not known exactly how this reboot will handle the story, but it will still be based around the basic concept of a board game where what happens in the game also happens in real life, which causes havoc when the jungle starts to erupt into reality. How Jonas fits into that hasn’t been revealed, although we wouldn’t be shocked if he’s playing Johnson’s son.

Jor many, Nick is still best known as one of the Jonas Brothers, but more recently he’s being proving himself as an actor. He stars in the show Kingdom and has been getting great notices in the upcoming fraternity hazing drama Goat. However Jumanji would be one of his highest profile roles so far.

Justin Bieber Denies Refusing To Film Movie Gay Sex Scene

July 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-bieberFrom that title you might be thinking Justin Bieber has been flirting with the world of twink porn, but it’s actually his representative’s reaction to reports that Bieber say he would only be in a film if a gay sex scene was removed. The pop star was supposedly offered a role in the film Uber Girl, but had one major condition.

Page Six reports that the movie’s co-writer Pete O’Neill told them, “He won’t take the part unless the sex scene with him and one of the male backup dancers is taken out of the final script.”

However, Gossip Cop has since reported that, ‘there’s “no truth” to the New York Post story, and talks about him being in that movie “never happened.”’

It appears Gossip Cop may be right, as Page Six also said that O’Neill ‘wants to cast Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Kiernan Shipka’ [emphasis ours], which suggests none of them hve been approached, and that no studio is currently involved in the project. It may well be that O’Neill was looking for a little publicity for his coming of age project, but it got slightly out of hand.

Jessica Chastain To Star Alongside Jake Gyllenhaal In Video Game Movie The Division

July 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jessica-chastainBack it early June it was revealed that despite the failure of Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time, Jake Gyllenhaal was jumping back into the video game-to-movie business with a film ased on Tom Clancy’s The Division. Now he’s got some company as THR reports that Jessica Chastain will co-star.

The game is a third-person shooter that’s set in a dystopian New York City following a smallpox pandemic. Gyllenhaal will play an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, commonly referred to as ‘The Division’, who investigates the nature of the outbreak and combats the criminal activity that springs up in its wake. It hasn’t been revealed exactly who Chastain will play.

Ubisoft must think they’ve got a good chance with a movie version, as the game is their fastest selling title of all time, reportedly shifting $330 million worth of copies in just five days. It is part of the company’s attempts to turn the reputation of videogame-to-movie titles around, with high-profile films such as Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender and Splinter Cell starring Tom Hardy also in the works.

Disposable Teens: Episode 8 – The web series about a gay homeless teen deals with male sexual assault

July 25, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

disposable-teens-ep8The web series Disposable Teens has taken on some weighty issues across it previous three episodes, and that certainly continues with Episode 8. It deals with the extremely serious issue of male victim sexual assault and date rape, as once more Austin gets into a situation he didn’t expect and doesn’t deserve.

The show is about a gay teenager named Austin (Chris Jehnert) who is forced to run from his home after coming out of the closet. Last season he ended up becoming prey to a charismatic pornographer named Madison (Lucio Nieto). This season he has found his way into the club scene with the help of a cute drug dealer named Houston (Tyler Begnoche) and a charming club promoter named Orlando (Evan Reed). However, there are dangers out there.

The show was inspired by director Brian Pelletier’s own experiences as a young, gay teen runaway, and is one of the few shows to look at the issues homeless LGBT people face. It’s a topic that should get more attention, as LGBT youth are disproportionately affected by homelessness.

You can take a look at Episodes 8 and if you need to catch up, click here. [Read more…]
