Poor old Divergent. Things started off well at the box office with the first movie, which helped Lionsgate decide they should expand their plans and turn the three books into four films. However, the second movie was slightly muted at the box office, and this one didn’t do well at all.
In Allegiant, Tris (Shailene Woodley) has opened the box, which suggests the city and its factions are part of an experiment, and that despite what they’ve been told, there is more to the world outside Chicago’s walls. Once out (despite many trying to stop them), Tris, Four (Theo James), her brother (Ansel Elgort) and Peter (Miles Teller), meet David (Jeff Daniels), the director of the experiment. After several years in pre-production, director and cast changes and plenty of time when it looked like it would never happen, a new film based on Stephen King’s It has started shooting. Actually it’s two movies, with the first dealing with a group of children’s interaction with a sewer-dwelling monster that takes the form of an evil clown, and the second with what happens once they’ve grown up and return to take on the menace again.

A couple of people have noted that in the new take on Ghostbusters, there’s the possibility that Kate McKinnon’s character, Jillian, maybe be somewhere on the LGBT spectrum. However, as nearly always with big Hollywood movies, while there are suggestions, nothing’s actually said.

As with the first season of McTucky Fried High, this second run hasn’t been afraid of taking on the issues facing LGBTQ head-on, even if it is doing it through a show about a school full of animated food. Episode 3 and 4 of Season 2 certainly continue that fearlessness, with this season particularly interested in religious freedom advocates and their hypocrisies.
There was a bit of an outcry in Italy over the last three days when one of the country’s biggest free TV networks, Rai TV, aired the pilot episode of How To Get Away With Murder. The problem, which many eagle-eyed viewers noticed, was that a gay sex scene had been snipped out, while all the heterosexual shenanigans was left intact.
