Jamie Dornan isn’t spending all his time in the Red Room of Fifty Shades Of Grey, as before the sequel to that movie arrives, he’s starring in the thriller The 9th Life Of Louis Drax. The first trailer for the movie has now arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘After surviving eight near-death accidents throughout his unlucky life, Louis Drax [Aiden Longworth] plunges off a steep cliff on his ninth birthday. While police investigate the cause of Louis’ near-fatal fall and the whereabouts of his violent father Peter [Aaron Paul], acclaimed neurologist Dr. Allan Pascal [Jamie Dornan] uses unorthodox techniques to try to tap into the boy’s unconscious mind and reveal the truth about the events that led to his condition. But as he’s drawn deeper and deeper into the mystery of Louis’ seeming ability to cheat death, the doctor finds himself falling for Louis’ mother, Natalie [Sarah Gadon]. As new clues emerge in the case, a shocking revelation changes the fates of Louis Drax and everyone around him.’
Alexandre Aja is directing the movie. It’ll be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

The rebooted Star Trek has had plenty of success at the cinema, but one thing it’s been lacking is a five-year mission to seek out strange new worlds. However, now it seems it’s getting one, although as you would expect, as the crew of the USS Enterprise head off to strange new worlds, things don’t go smoothly.
Synopsis: ‘A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.’
We haven’t seen anything of the guys from Old Dogs & New Tricks since the end of 2014. They’re returning with a fourth and final season of the popular gay-themed web series later this year, but before then we’ve got the half-hour special below, released to mark a year since the US Supreme Court decision on marriage equality.
There is no doubt that the stories of transgender people have tended to be marginalised and hidden. The new webseries We’ve Been Around attempts to redress the balance a little, with six, five-minute episodes, each of which takes a look at different trans people and their impact.
The first five episodes of Mike Roma’s new web series, Danny The Manny, have now been released, and they’re certainly worth a watch. Roma plays the titular character, an out gay man who’s been hired to look after a young boy called Quinn while his parent are working.
It is not exactly a secret that JK Rowling is a massive supporter of marriage equality and LGBT rights, and it appears she has brought some deliberate parallels with that to the script for her Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A new featurette gives us a few hints at that, with Rowling talking about the importance to her of heroes who are, “set apart, stigmatised or othered.”
It turns out Batman v Superman star Jesse Eisenberg has no time for anti-gay trolls. He’s currently in London starring in The Spoils, a play he also wrote that is currently playing at Trafalgar Studios. That theatre is just steps from Trafalgar Square, which was the focus of London Pride events on Saturday, with the result that on his way to work, Eisenberg came across a bunch of anti-gay, ‘Christian’ protesters.
Over the last few months there have been various hashtag campaigns on Twitter to give some prominent movie character same sex partners. That includes Elsa from Frozen and Captain America. The likelihood of Marvel allowing Cap to date a boy is pretty remote, but there was a lot of Twitter support for #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend, especially following the closeness between the character and Bucky/The Winter Soldier in the films.
