Johnny Depp Talks About His Pride Over His Daughter’s Decision To Come Out As Sexually Fluid

November 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lily-rose-deppEarlier this year Johnny Depp’s daughter, 16-year-old Lily-Rose, decided to let the world know that she is sexually fluid. Now the Daily Mail has got her father’s response to the news, where he talks about about how how proud he is of her.

He says, “She’s got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise. But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything — she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship. Lily’s really together — she’s a sharp kid and one of the smartest human beings I have ever met.

“She’s far surpassed myself there — and my friends, too! And, whatever she is doing, if she needs any advice, I’m there for her. Kids are going to make their own decisions, but I guess that the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support. And I do.”

Lily-Rose’s star has being rising as a model, and she is now trying her hand at acting, with a major role in Kevin Smith’s upcoming Yoga Hosers (opposite Smith’s own daughter, Harley Quinn), and has snagged roles in several other movies. We’ll have to see whether she ends up being as successful as her dad.

After Talking About His Body Dysmorphia Modern Family’s Reid Ewing Casually Confirms He’s Gay

November 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

reid-ewingAt the end of last week, the actor who plays Dylan in Modern Family, Reid Ewing, impressed many when he spoke out about the issues he’s had with body dymorphia. It’s a condition that meant that when he looked in the mirror he could only see things he disliked and which he thought needed sorting. It drove him to have numerous plastic surgeries, but in his head each one only highlighted something else he thought ought to be remedied.

Now he’s decided to really own his own truth, as after talking about his body dysmorphia issues, the 27-year-old nonchalantly confirmed he is gay over the weekend on Twitter.

He first tweeted, ‘Saw Eugene Bata on @GMA in the Body Dysmorphia segment connected to my article and I just want to say he is hot af.’

When asked whether he’d just outed himself, Ewing answered, ‘I was never in’.

He then used a Marilyn Monroe gif to confirm things, which you can take a look at below.

If you’re interested in reading the article Ewing wrote about body dysmorphia (and I recommend you do as it gives a very worthwhile insight), you can find it over at Huffpo. [Read more…]

Zootopia Trailer – Sloths take their time in Disney’s world of talking animal movie

November 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zootopia-trailer-slideWe had a teaser for Disney’s Zootopia a few months ago, but that didn’t really tell us a huge amount the movie. Now we get a little more, with a trailer which is essentially an extended clip from the film. It gives us a taste of the plot, and also let’s us know that in a world of talking animals, sloths aren’t the animals to talk to if you want a speedy response.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The modern mammal metropolis of Zootropolis is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy.

‘Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootropolis,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”).

The movie will be cinemas next spring.

Win The Lesbian-Themed Crocadyke Dundee/Wine, Women & Friends On DVD!

November 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

CrocADyke-WineWomenFriends-coverThe lesbian-themed documentary duo Crocadyke Dundee/Wine, Women & Friends is released on DVD in the UK from November 23rd courtesy of Peccadillo Pictures, and we’ve teamed up with them to give away three copies of the movie in this competition!

Crocadyke Dundee tells the story of Dawn O’Donnell was a convent girl who became a professional ice skater, travelled the world and then landed up in 1950s Australia, a penniless lesbian. By the time of her death in 2007, she had stormed through Sydney’s gay underworld and built herself an empire of bars, clubs, steam rooms, sex shops and drag shows, inspiring The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Wine, Women & Friends is about Carole Leblanc and Jo Béfort who started their wine adventure six years ago in Collias, France. Their dream was to produce excellent wine. They had no experience, just their passion – and friends. Winemaking is a complex and labour intensive process, and still a very macho affair in France. But as this captivating film reveals, it is possible for two women who are willing to work hard to achieve their dream and live the life they choose – as well as bring an entire village and community into their world.

To be in with a chance of winning Crocadyke Dundee/Wine, Women & Friends on DVD that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on December 6th, 2015, so get answering and good luck.

Crocadyke Dundee/Wine, Women & Friends (DVD Review)

November 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Dawn O’Donnell
Director: Fiona Cunningham-Reid
Running Time: 107 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

It’s two for the price of one, as this release features a duo of documentaries from filmmaker Fiona Cunningham-Reid, which take a look into the lives of some very different lesbians.

First off there’s Crocadyke Dundee, which is a portrait of Dawn O’Donnell, who was a bit of a legend in the Sydney gay scene, opening numerous bars, clubs and other venues (including sex shops). The film also acts as a view into how gay life has changed in Australia’s most populous city, as Dawn’s involvement started back when being gay was illegal. At that point there were few gay venues and those that existed were at risk of being raided (indeed it’s suggested that having half their clientele occasionally locked up was built into the business plan of some of these bars).

Interestingly, despite the oppression and societal disdain, it’s suggested that those involved generally had a great time. [Read more…]

Love Is The Devil (Blu-ray Review)

November 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Derek Jacobi, Daniel Craig, Tilda Swinton, Anne Lambton, Adrian Scarborough
Director: John Maybury
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

John Maybury’s 1998 film about the relationship between painter Francis Bacon (Derek Jacobi) and his lover George Dyer (Daniel Craig) gets an HD upgrade from the British Film Institute with this Blu-ray release. The movie focuses on one period of Bacon’s life in the 1960s, when Bacon was already a lauded artist, considered by many as the greatest living British painter.

Bacon wakes up one night to find small-time thief George Dyer robbing his apartment/studio. Instead of calling police, Bacon invites Dyer into his bed. The thief accepts, which marks the start of an intense relationship between the two – one of whom is a rarefied figure in the world of art, while the other is a working class criminal. Initially their mismatched social status doesn’t matter, partly as their sexuality and attitudes means both feel like outsiders, but soon cracks begin to show. [Read more…]

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (DVD Review)

November 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, David Hasselhoff, Cassie Scerbo, Frankie Muniz
Director: Anthony C. Ferrante
Running Time: 93 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

Sharknado hasn’t done badly for a franchise where the joke should have worn off after the first five minutes. The first movie survived simply by its jaw-dropping but oddly good-natured ridiculousness, while the second was made vaguely watchable by being sometimes imaginative about the over-the-top ways it could find to kill people with flying sharks and to get people to kill the massive cartilaginous fish.

But now we come to part 3, where any imagination has run out and the whole thing comes across as so cynical that you can almost feel the makers smirking that anyone would be stupid enough to want to watch a third movie about tornados that throw sharks at people. [Read more…]

Ted 2 – Extended Edition (Blu-ray Review)

November 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth, Giovanni Ribisi
Director: Seth MacFarlane
Running Time: 121 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

Even the makers of 2012’s Ted are unlikely to have expected it to gross $550 million around the world. It ensured Universal was keen to make a sequel, although it has to be said this follow-up wasn’t half as successful, taking $212 million around the world. Not a bad number but nothing like the first.

This time around Mila Kunis is nowhere to be seen, as she and Mark Wahlberg’s John Bennett have gotten a divorce, leaving him completely lacking on confidence around women. Ted meanwhile seems to be having better luck, as he’s marrying the bold and brassy Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth).

Things come unstuck though when the talking teddy and his wife decide to adopt a child, as it suddenly make the government consider his status, and they decide that legally they don’t consider him a person, so not only won’t he be getting a baby, his marriage is invalid, he can’t keep his job and he’s now classed as property. The Trouble With Ray Documentary, About Texan LGBT Activist Ray Hill, Seeks Funding

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

trouble-with-rayAnother day, another LGBT-themed film looking for cash through crowdfunding – which just goes to show how difficult it can still be for filmmakers to find funding for LGBT movies through traditional channels. This one could be interesting though and worth a little of your money.

Director Travis John is trying to raise $50,000 to get his documentary The Trouble With Ray made, which will take a look at a key figure in the gay rights fights in the US. It will tell the story of Texas-born Ray Hill, who started his LGBT activism before Stonewall and contined to be a provocative voice over the next five decades.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Feature-length documentary, “The Trouble With Ray,” spotlights U.S. Supreme Court-branded “Citizen Provocateur” Ray Hill’s 50 years of activism in shaping a Texas LGBT community and contributing to the greater national movement.

“‘The Trouble With Ray” documents the history of LGBT heroes in Texas, of all places, and provides a lively overview of a life lived courageously in a world where fear and shame ruled. Thanks to a small group of activists – with Ray Hill’s shocking mouth at the megaphone – a thriving LGBT community was born in the heart of ultra-conservative Texas and proudly marched their concerns to the national stage.

‘For nearly 50 years, Ray Hill has been the loud-mouthed face of this bold movement and his style of activism continues to shock and inspire today. With his unique Southern charm and nothing-to-lose attitude, Ray Hill can still convince just about anybody that where there’s life, there’s hope.

‘The struggle for LGBT rights continues. “The Trouble With Ray” connects Texas’ unique LGBT history to today’s ever-changing political and cultural landscape. We appreciate your support in bringing Ray Hill’s relevant, rich story of activism to life!’

You can take a look at the crowdfunding video below, and if it’s something you’d like to help get made, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]
