Soft Lad Trailer – Daniel Brocklebank is sleeping with a younger man in the gay-themed flick

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

soft-lad-slideTwo stars of rival British soap operas – Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank and Eastenders’ Jonny Labey – have come together and they’re having an affair, or at least they are Soft Lad, which is due out on DVD in the UK in November.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Twenty-two year old David has it all – he’s young, hot, and he’s just got into the prestigious dance school of his dreams. But he has a secret: for two years he’s been sleeping with his sister’s husband, Jules. After an argument between the two lovers, David throws himself into a one-night stand with Sam, a casual encounter which fast becomes something much stronger.

‘Unable to express his feelings to anyone, Jules is slowly driven mad by his secret desire for David, and jealous of his new found, public relationship. When David’s sister, Jane, insists he brings his new boyfriend over for dinner, Jules snaps, revealing in turn a secret which none of them can ignore.

‘SOFT LAD is the directorial debut from Leon Lopez, an examination of lust, jealousy and their consequences in contemporary Liverpool.’ [Read more…]

Latest Stonewall Clip Focuses On Trans Activist Marsha P. Johnson

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stonewall-jeremy-irvine-slideAfter an unexpectedly large backlash following the release of the trailer for Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall, those behind the marketing have been doing some damage limitation even if they haven’t admitted that’s what they’re doing.

The anger came from the fact the trailer made it look like the film would erase the trans people and people of color who were central to the Stonewall riots, so that it could suggest it was all down to a pretty, young, white, cisgender guy, as played by Jeremy Irvine. While both Irvine and Emmerich were quick to defend the film, saying the movie is much broader than that and features a diverse cast of queer characters, many weren’t satisfied with that.

Since then the marketing has shifted, with the recent poster pushing Irvine off to the side to show that trans and people of color are also prominent characters, and now a new clip has arrived that focuses on Marsha P. Johnson. The lack of Marsha in the trailer was one of the biggest bones of contention, as this trans woman of color is seen as one of the key figures at Stonewall, and many believed she’d been completely erased from the story for the film.

While it still remains to be seen quite how prominent she is, the new clip does show she is part of the film. Take a look below.

Stonewall will be released in theaters on September 25, 2015. Here’s the synopsis: ‘STONEWALL is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends Ray (Jonny Beauchamp) and a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven. As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through the entire community of young gays, lesbians, drag queens and trans people who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.’ [Read more…]

James Franco Wasn’t Impressed By Homophobic Jokes At His Comedy Roast

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-francoWhen James Franco was roasted for Comedy Central earlier this year, many people noted the number of homophobic jokes that were made, riffing on the actor’s interest in sexuality and LGBT characters. Many went far beyong simply noting it with good-natured humour and instead headed for lowest common denomination homophobia.

Aziz Ansari even noted on-stage how surprised he was by both the quantity and meanness of they gay jokes, while sounding singularly unimpressed.

Now Franco himself has added his voice to those who wish those roasting him could have done a bit better, telling The Independent, “It’s weird. I was a little shocked, I didn’t write those jokes [at the roast], they did. I didn’t make any gay jokes. There is still a little bit of homophobia. I think part of it, when I do films with Seth [Rogen], it’s more playing on straight male anxiety about any sort of same-sex interaction. To me that is really a comment on a larger anxiety and not really anything about denigrating or criticising anything about the gay community.”

Although Franco is straight, as both as actor and director he’s shown a fascination with homosexuality through films like Milk, Sal, Howl,  The Broken Tower, Interior Leather Bar and the upcoming I Am Michael. [Read more…]

Todd Haynes’ beautiful 1950s set drama will receive its UK Premiere on Wednesday 14 October at the Odeon Leicester Square as the 59th BFI London Film Festival’s American Express Gala, attended by Todd Haynes, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

With tickets for that event going on sale September 10th, Studiocanal has released a new UK trailer.

Krampus Trailer – Christmas gets ghoulish for Adam Scott & Toni Collette

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

krampus-slideYou may never have heard of Krampus, but in some traditions he is essentially the anti-Santa Claus, a slightly demonic figure who punishes bad children while Santa rewards the good. Now he’s getting his own movie, which will be coming to creep us out (and hopefully make us laugh) at the end of the year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ Krampus, a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday.

‘When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

‘All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

‘The horror-comedy also stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen and Krista Stadler. Krampus and his mischievous underlings have been created by the combined efforts of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital, both renowned for their epic work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies and King Kong, among many others.’ [Read more…]

Michael Fassbender May Star In The Snowman

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-fassbenderFor a long time Martin Scorsese was attached to direct a movie version of Jo Nesbo’s novel The Snowman. However just over a year ago he was replaced by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

Now it looks like the project is ready to move forward, as THR reports that Michael Fassbender is in talks to play the lead role of Harry Hole. At the moment it’s still early days, but if all works out, he’ll be taking on the part.

Joe Nesbo’s novel follows Oslo detective Harry Hole, a loose cannon who is investigating the disappearance of a woman, whose pink scarf is found wrapped around a sinister-looking snowman. It could be the start of a franchise, as Hole has been part of numerous Nesbo books.

Matt Damon Is Back & Ripped In The First Pic From New Bourne Movie

September 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damon-bourne-5After Matt Damon left Jason Bourne behind – saying he wouldn’t return without director Paul Greengrass – both Damon and Greengrass are back on set for a new adventure, and to prove it producer Frank Marshall tweeted the pic above, where Matt is looking pretty ripped.

Not much is known about the plot of the movie, although the film brings back Julia Stiles as Nicky, while newcomers include Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel (as the villain). All we know is that Damon has suggested Bourne will be dealing with “an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” with the plot touching on “spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”

The film is due to hit cinemas July 29th, 2016.
