Slow West Trailer – Michael Fassbender goes Western

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Slow-West-slideIt seems Michael Fassbender was keen to make a Western, as he was attached to Jane Got A Gun, but X-Men scheduling issues forced him to drop out, but now he’s made Slow West (it’s the movie he was shooting when one paparazzi managed to take a sneaky pic of him having an outdoor piss). The trailer for the film has now arrived, which you can watch below.

The movie ‘follows a 16-year-old boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves, while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas (Fassbender).’

The trailer suggest this is a film that will have plenty of style, something Sundance reviews also attested to, although it’s apparently also pretty gritty.

No UK date is currently set, but in the US it’ll arrive on DirecTV on April 16th, before hitting cinemas and VoD on May 15th. [Read more…]

Steven Spielberg Will Head Into The Virtual World Of Ready Player One

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steven-spielbergSpielberg has talked about making big action/fantasy films for the past few films but has only actually helmed more serious fare such as Lincoln and the upcoming Bridge Of Spies, however he’s going much more populist with his next two movies. He’s set to shoot The BFG later this year and now Deadline reports he’s boarded the action sci-fi Ready Player One.

The movie will be based on Ernie Cline novel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.’

Ever since the novel was published there’s been excitement about the idea of a film version, but what people liked about that idea is also what many thought meant it would never happen – the world Wade enters is full of reference to real world old movies and video games. While you can talk about those things in a novel, it becomes much trickier to include in a film, as all sorts of people own the rights to the characters.

However if one man can wade through that quagmire it’s Spielberg. Indeed it would be possible to write a script purely filled with movies Steven has had a hand in – from Jurassic Park to Back To The Future – and it would feel like a pretty comprehensive trip through the pop culture of the past 35 years. In fact some have argued that it was nostalgia for the Spielbergian films of the 1980s that inspired many of the ideas in the novel.

It’s certainly an exciting idea, so let’s hope it comes to fruition.

Idris Elba Is In Talks To Be Star Trek 3’s Main Villain

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

idris-elbaWe haven’t heard a huge amount about it for a while, but Paramount is still busily putting together Star Trek 3, and now it looks like it’s really moving forward as Idris Elba is in early talks to play the movie’s main villain, according to Variety.

Taking a lesson from JJ Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness there’s little info on what the role may be, although Variety does say ‘Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case.’

The current plan is that the movie will start shooting in June with the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg returning to for a third Starfleet outing. Justin Lin will director with a July 8th, 2016 release date set.

Jesse Eisenberg Goes Bald In First Look At Lex Luthor In Batman v Superman

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jesse-Eisenberg-Lex-LuthorLex Luthor is getting a bit younger than Kevin Spacey or Gene Hackman when Jesse Eisenberg takes over the role in next year’s Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. However he’s still going to be bald and now we’ve got the proof as EW has debuted the first image of the actor as the infamous DC Comics villain.

Director Zack Snyder comments, “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure. Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course… Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is the highly anticipated action adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from “Man of Steel,” Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.

‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

‘Principal photography will take place on location at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, Michigan; Illinois; Africa; and the South Pacific.’

It’s due out May 2016.

Bradley Cooper Plans To Direct A Star Is Born Remake

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gay Short Film Showcase: Flatmates – Is there more than friendship in the love between two male friends?

March 24, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Flatmates-kompisar-short-filmI’m not sure when the word ‘bromance’ was invented, but we definitely didn’t talk about them as much in 2007 as we do now. That’s doesn’t mean they didn’t exist, as the short film Flatmates (Kompisar) shows.

And as many people still wonder today, it questions whether exceptionally close male friendships may contain something sexual that neither person wants to fully admit.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Two friends, Björn and Hampus, decide to move in together. If one ignores the fact that the two men are completely different, theirs is a close relationship. Being in love with your best friend and, in spite of this, or because of it, arguing to the point where it becomes unbearable.’

It’s a great film, which does a good job of initially making you wonder whether the building sexual tension is real or whether it’s just there because the viewer wants it to be. However as it continues things do inevitably reach boiling point when the men end up in bed together.

Take a look at the film below.

All Yours Trailer – An Argentinian rent boy & a middle-aged Belgian baker make for a mismatched gay couple

March 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

all-yours-slideDirector David Lambert had plenty of success with the gay-themed arthouse flick Beyond The Walls in 2012, and now he’s back with All Yours, which takes a look at the type of gay ‘romance’ that doesn’t often get looked at in films.

The movie premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and here’s the synopsis from that fest: ‘Young Argentine Lucas arrives in a small Belgian town to visit gay bakery owner Henry, who fell in love with him through the internet; Lucas strutted his erotic stuff online in the hope of securing a better future for himself. Henry buys him a plane ticket to Europe, expecting in return that Lucas will not only share his bed but also help out at the bakery. However, their ideas about living together differ greatly. On top of that, Lucas gets to know a Canadian woman named Audrey and her son Jeff.

‘This unusual starting point for director Lambert serves his aim of delving deeply into our interpersonal relationships, our wishes and desires, and the understandable need for a supportive environment. The filmmaker succeeded in humorously describing and distinguishing the film’s characters and in aptly portraying their fragility and inner uncertainty. The bold musical and visual elements round out the picture’s compelling atmosphere, and are among the most telling aspects of the talented Belgian filmmaker’s unmistakable style.’

Breaking Glass Pictures has picked up the movie for release in the US, and you can take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Max’s Underpants: Episodes 1&2 – The underwear model teaches us about VPL & aroused straight guys

March 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maxs-underpants-ep2Being a professional underwear model is a bit of an odd job, something the very hunky and popular Max Emerson is well aware of and has decided to leverage for his new web series, Max’s Underpants, where he teaches us all about the oddities and benefits of his barely clothed job.

The first two episodes of Max’s Underpants have now been released and they’re a lot of fun, not just because of the beefcake on display, but also because it’s actually very humourous. Emerson is helped with that by guest stars including a brilliant turn from Willam Belli (who certainly shows us a way of eating bread we’d all enjoy), and the gorgeous Colby Melvin, another gay guy who spends much of his life posing in just his undies.

However here Colby has to do his best straight bro impression, playing a ‘heterosexual’ underwear model who Max suggests must be at least a little bit gay to do what he does for a living (Max makes straight guys modelling undies sound a bit like gay for pay porn to be honest).

IMax’s Underpants is great fun and surprisingly sexy, so take a look at the first two episodes below, with Max promising more on a weekly basis. [Read more…]
