Scarlett Johansson & Jonah Hill May Hail Caesar! Alongside George Clooney

July 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

SCARLETT-JOHANSSONThe Coen Brothers seems to want to fill every role in their upcoming Hail Caesar with a well-known face, as they’ve already got the likes of George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton, and now Variety reports that Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill are in talks to join them.

The 1950s set story is about a Hollywood fixer called Eddie Mannix, who works for the movie studios to help their major stars from avoiding scandals and to keep their dirty laundry under cover.

It’s now known who Jonah Hill will play, but Scarlett Johansson is playing an actress who becomes pregnant just before her latest film is about to start production. It works out as good timing for the actress, as she is pregnant herself, but as with several of the other roles in Hail Caesar!, it’s a relatively small part, so she’ll have plenty of time to complete it before she’s due to give birth.

Shooting on Hail Caesar! is set to start in a couple of months time.

Life Partners Clip – Leighton Meester & Adam Brody star in the LGBT-infused film that’s set to open Outfest

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

life-partnersTomorrow is the opening of LA’s Outfest, arguably the biggest LGBT film festival in the world, and the movie chosen for the first night is Life Partners, which features a great cast including the likes of Leighton Meester, Gillian Jacobs, Adam Brody, Beth Dover, Gabourey Sidibe, Greer Grammer, Mark Feuerstein, and SNL’s Kate McKinnon and Abby Elliott.

It’s a very good time then to take a look at the trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The comedy is about a codependent friendship between two very different girls – type-A Paige (Gillian Jacobs) and lesbian slacker Sasha (Leighton Meester) – who have made a pact. Paige has vowed that she won’t get married until Sasha has the same legal right. All is fine until Paige meets Tim (Brody), a young and charming doctor- and as this relationship heats up, Paige and Sasha have to learn how to work Tim into their friendship. As a crucial vote on gay marriage approaches, the threesome struggle with the issues of love, friendship, and loyalty.’ [Read more…]

Age Of Consent Trailer – Inside the sex-infused world of one of London’s gay leather bars

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

age-of-consent-poster-slideThe documentary Age Of Consent premiered back in March at London’s BFI Flare Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, and now it’s set to make its NYC debut on Saturday July 26th At NewFest! That seems like a good reason to take a look at the trailer for this no-holds barred look in the gay leather bar scene.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘This documentary by festival favourites Lum and Verow tells the story of The Hoist (open since 1996 and now one of London’s only surviving leather bars) and in doing so tells the story of gay sex from decriminalization to Grindr, taking in police entrapment, the Spanner case, safer sex and Section 28. Age of Consent is informative and eye-opening – did you know more gay men were arrested and convicted of gross indecency in 1989 than in 1966? – while being playful, funny and downright filthy.

‘Described by the barman as a ‘sneaky, sexy, dirty wee hole’, The Hoist and its patrons could be seen as representing the antithesis of the recent trend in mainstream gay politics towards assimilation. But, with encroaching gentrification and more people using the internet to hook up, what does the future hold?’

Brandon Routh Joins The Hot Guys Of Arrow For Season 3

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brandon-routhI presume that when the producers are thinking of bringing a new male character into TV’s Arrow, the top of the list when it comes to casting is that they must being very good looking. They’re certainly keeping with that for Season 3, as the likes of Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes and David Ramsey, will be joined by Superman Returns star Brandon Routh.

Variety reports that he will play Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom. The ‘character is a scientist and inventor that will have an unexpected yet mysterious role in the lives of Oliver (Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards)’.

In the comics Palmer can shrink down to subatomic size. It’ll be interesting to see whether they keep that in Arrow. So far the show has largely eschewed characters with the more fantastical kinds of special powers, however with The Flash getting a sister show to Arrow, it may well be that these things will become a more regular part of the show.

We’ll just have to wait and see what they do with Routh.

Exodus: Gods And Kings Trailer – Christian Bale & Joel Edgerton go head-to-head in the biblical epic

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

exodus-gods-and-kings-slideOne of this winter’s most intriguing films is Exodus: Gods And Kings, which is a big gamble for both Fox and 20th Century Fox. They are hoping that with Gladiator director Ridley Scott directing and legions of religious folks who may be interested in film about Moses, it will be a hit. However historical epics of this sort are often tough sells.

Fox is now getting the ball rolling, as after some images arrived a few days ago, we now get a first trailer, which seems keen to sell us on the scale as well as the rivalry between Christian Bale’s Moses and Joel Edgerton’s Ramses.

As you would expect, the story follows Moses, an Israelite who grew up as part of the Egyptian royal household, but who goes up against the Pharaoh Ramses so that he can lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Cue plagues, battles and at some point the Red Sea will need to be parted.

Exodus: Gods and Kings is due out in December. [Read more…]

Felony Trailer – Joel Edgerton & Jai Courtney are thrown into a massive moral dilemma

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Felony-Joel-Edgerton-Tom-WilkinsonAfter decent reports for its film festival screenings, the thriller Felony is now in the run up to its cinema release. While it doesn’t appear firm UK or US dates are set yet, it’s out in Australia on August 28th.

The film stars Joel Edgerton (who also wrote the script) as a decorated police officer, who when driving home after a celebration drink with his team after the long waited bust of a major gang, runs a young cyclist off the road. As he gives CPR to the child, fellow officers arrive to take his statement. In a split second decision he tells them a lie about the accident, which will change all their lives in this edge of your seat thriller.

Jai Courtney is another cop who suspects that Edgerton has been lying, while Tom Wilkinson is the lead police investigator who arrives on the scene following the accident.

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guardians-of-the-galaxy-poster2-slideIt’s only a few weeks until we can see whether Marvel’s slight gamble with Guardians Of The Galaxy will pay off – and if the evidence of this extended promo is anything to go by, it’s going to do very well indeed.

Take a look at it below.

Gus Van Sant Takes On Manga Adaptation Death Note

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gus-van-santAlthough The Tracking Board has been rather hit and miss with its scoops, it’s reporting that Gus Van Sant has signed up to direct an adaptation of the Japanese manga Death Note. Back in 2011 Shane Black was set to helm, but he left quite a while ago and since then the movie version has been on the backburner.

However it does appear Van Sant will be working from a script by Black, Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

The project is based on the manga series written by Tsugumi Ôba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, which revolves around a college student named Light who finds a mysterious notebook that has the unique power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. When the student uses his newfound power to rid the streets of criminals, he is pursued by an FBI criminologist.

The manga series, which has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, has spawned a number of films and TV shows in Japan. It’s certainly a premise with some possibilities, and while it’s something rather different from what we’ve come to expect from Van Sant – who’s best known for the likes of Milk and Good Will Hunting – he could turn it into something interesting.

At the moment there’s no news on when the film might shoot.

Ridley Scott Plans David and Goliath Movie

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ridley-scottRidley Scott must feel that after helming his upcoming epic, Exodus, Biblical dramas are a good bet, as he’s partnering once more with 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment for a movie about King David, according to Variety.

Jonathan W. Stokes (Blood Mountain) will write the screenplay, which has the working title David. It’s likely to focus on the period when he was King of Israel, well after his early exploits defeating the mighty Goliath.

It appears Ridley Scott is currently just attached to produce, but as with the many porjects he has in development, if he likes the direction it’s going in, he may step in to direct.

If he does helm, it’ll be a while until he gets around to it, as it’s believed be will shoot The Martian with Matt Damon this autumn, and it’s been suggested he wants to move straight onto Prometheus 2 after that (which already has a March 2016 release date pencilled in, although most expect that to slip).
