New Thor: The Dark World Trailer – Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are back in Asgard

August 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the first Thor, the alien god spent most of his time on Earth, but for the sequel, The Dark World, we’ve been promised plenty more time in Asgard, along with the other realms of the Thor universe. Now a new trailer gives us out best look yet at the film, which can’t resist but show us there will be some moments on Earth in the film – after all, Natalie Portman has to reunite with Thor somehow – even if it’s still very fantasy sci-fi overall.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.’

The film is out October 30th. [Read more…]

Documentary About Matthew Shepard, Made By His Friend, Seeks Funding

August 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The murder of young gay man Matthew Shepard in 1996 caused waves around the world, with some suggesting it marked a major turning point in the gay rights struggle in America, galvanising both LGBT people and allies to push for full acceptance.

Now a documentary, made by those who knew Matthew, is being made about the murdered 21-year-old, and it’s currently seeking $25,000 on Kickstarter to finish the film. Called Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine, the film ‘explores the life and death of Matthew Shepard and examines the wreckage left behind after his murder.

Framed through the very personal lens of friends and family, it’s a story of loss, love, and courage in the face of unspeakable tragedy.’

The doc has already been made (with the support of the likes of the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Human Rights Campaign), but it needs completion funding to sort out things such as Marketing & Publicity, Mastering costs, Booking fees,Classroom versions and Professional fees.

Director Michele Josue comments on the Kickstarter page, ‘Matt was a close friend and his death was devastating. Making this film has been incredibly difficult yet so meaningful, and we’ve been working steadily for the past 3 years to bring this film to fruition…

‘While we’ve come a long way in the last fifteen years, ignorance and hate are still a part of today’s society. MATT SHEPARD IS A FRIEND OF MINE highlights the responsibility we all have to help make sure people around the world are not at risk of falling victim to the same story ending Matt was.’

Fifteen years ago, on the night of October 6, 1998, two men lured Matthew Shepard, a gay freshman at the University of Wyoming, from a bar in Laramie, WY. He was kidnapped and driven to a field where he was tortured and tethered to a fence and left to die. Never regaining consciousness, Matthew succumbed to the severe injuries from the attack and died on October 12, 1998.

The murder of Matthew Shepard was a devastating tragedy that made countless headlines around the world. As people denounced the hatred and senseless violence that caused Matthew’s death, a much-needed dialogue about hate crimes and intolerance against the LGBT community began and continues to this day.

If you want to find out more about how you can help the film get to audiences (and the goodies on offer if you do), head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

Muppets Most Wanted Teaser – Tina Fey goes Russian opposite Kermit & co.

August 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason Segel may be gone, but at this first teaser for Muppets Most Wanted shows us, the likes of Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell stepping up to the plate, with Fey channelling her best Russian comrade with a thick accent.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.

‘Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” is directed by James Bobin and produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Bobin co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who is also executive producer with John G. Scotti. Featuring music from Academy Award®-winning songwriter Bret McKenzie, “Muppets Most Wanted” hits UK cinemas Spring 2014.’

Will Forte & Jason Sudeikis Lock Lips In A New Mumford & Sons Video

August 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mumford & Sons have certainly pulled in some great comedy names for the video for Hopeless Wanderer. They’ve got Jason Bateman, Ed Helms, Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte to parody the band, with Forte and Sudeikis even locking lips at one point for some full-on saliva swapping.

It’s a lot of fun and it looks like the comedy lads had a good time making the vid, giving a bit of an American country vibe to the British folk band.

It’s not a bad song either. (And just take a look at Jason Bateman’s face in the screenshot below, as he doesn’t seem to be enjoying this bit of man-love). [Read more…]

Kellan Lutz Is Buff & Shirtless In New Hercules 3D Pics

August 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hercules-3d-kellan-lutz1There are two different Hercules movies in production at the moment, with Kellan Lutz taking the title role in Hercules 3D, while Dwayne Johnson is playing the legendary character Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Now a new pic from the former has arrived, which suggests the film has taken inspiration from the Spartacus TV series for its look (even though Hercules is Greek rather than Roman, but never mind).

Renny Harlin is directing the movie, which is said to centre on the love between the son of Zeus and the mortal princess of Crete, who was promised to his older brother despite her love for Hercules.

It appears this one will keep the mythological aspects of Hercules, while Johnson’s movie is said to take a more realistic take on the legends. Hercules 3D will be out next year.

Take a look at the first pics below.

Ben Whishaw Confirms He Entered A Civil Partnership With Mark Bradshaw Last Year

August 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-whishawThere’s been a lot of speculation surrounding Ben Whishaw’s sexuality, and while the Skyfall actor hasn’t really talked about it a lot, the presumption has always been that he’s gay but hasn’t felt the need to scream it from the rooftops. However he’s now confirmed that not only does he like guys, but he entered a civil partnership with Australian composer Mark Bradshaw last August in Sydney.

His representative issued a statement saying, ‘Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012. They were proud to do so and are very happy.

‘Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work.’

The Daily Mail reports the couple met in 2009 while Whishaw was shooting the John Keats biopic Bright Star. He’s also appeared in the likes of Perfume and The Tempest, and hasn’t shied away from queer sexuality in things such as Brideshead Revisited, The Hollow Crown and Cloud Atlas. His highest profile role to date is playing the new Q in Skyfall.

Speculation about his sexuality reached a fever pitch in 2010 after an interview with Out while he was playing a gay character in the off-Broadway play, The Pride. When asked about whether it was important for young gay people to have positive role models, Whishaw said, ‘I feel in my heart that it’s important, but I don’t quite know yet the way to go about that. Maybe that’s the transitional thing I feel I’m in the middle of at the moment.’

Most took that as Whishaw saying he was gay, but wasn’t sure how to deal with his growing public profile, especially as he’s an actor who wants people to see the character he’s playing, not the person behind it.

It’s unlikely to be a surprise to many that 32-year-old Whishaw is gay, but some of his fans may be upset that he’s very firmly off the market.

Jeremy Renner Is Coming Back For Another Bourne, With Anthony Peckham Writing

August 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-renner-the-bourne-legacy
After The Bourne Legacy barely broke $110 million at the US box office – despite costing $125 million to make – many thought that was the end of Jeremy Renner in the franchise. However it did make nearly $300 million worldwide, and while it’s taken them a while to decide what to do next, Deadline reports that Universal has hired Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to write the next instalment, with Renner coming back to star.

There’s no news on a director. Tony Gilroy helmed Legacy, but as he also worked on the scripts for all the previous Bourne movies, so the fact he’s not onboard to write this one suggests he may not be back.

There’s no news on where the plot might go, but Universal is apparently keen to build the story of Renner’s Aaron Cross, an agent whose story ran parallel to that of Jason Bourne in the last film, when his former bosses tried to have him and the other chemically enhanced operatives killed due to the problem Jason was causing.

Some are suggested that the delay in commissioning a fifth Bourne film is due to Universal trying to woo Damon back, but as he’s not ready to return yet (he’s previously suggested he’ll only return if Paul Greegrass helms and wasn’t sure where Jason’s story would go now he’s got his memory back), they’re no moving forward with another Renner based movie.

Matt Dallas & Friends Are Raising Money For Thunder Road Film

August 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Actor Matt Dallas may have come out of the closet, but that doesn’t mean he’s now only interested in stereotypically gay role. Nope, there are no hairdressers or florists in his near future. Instead he’s teamed up with his friends, Charlie Bewley and Steven Grayhm, to come up with the script for Thunder Road, which looks at life after war.

Now they’ve launched a KickStarter, hoping to raise a gargantuan $750,000 to get the movie made.

The film follows, ‘the story of returning U.S. soldier SGT. CALVIN COLE (played by Steven) whom we meet in present day Detroit as a troubled veteran who suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) from multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Initially resistant to the VA system COLE must find a way to assimilate back into civilian life before he ends up dead or in prison.

‘Through his rekindled friendship with his estranged childhood friend PFC. DARRYL SPARKS (played by Matt) who he served on the “buddy system” with and his newly formed relationship with a doctor at the VA Medical Center, COLE finds redemption and salvation through sharing his captivating experience as a combat infantryman. The film also explores the psychological repercussions of war and seeks answers to the growing epidemic of PTSD and tbi in returning soldiers.

‘Thunder Road also shows the allied forces involvement in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom as we intertwine COLE’s story with CPT. CHARLES RHODES (played by Charlie), a Sandhurst educated Captain of the British Army who we learn has crossed paths with COLE and SPARKS during their service in the middle east.’

Steven first began writing the script back in 2003, but it’s only after he starred alongside Dallas on Wyatt Earp’s Revenge that they all started working together to make it a reality.

It sounds like an interesting film, so to find out more or pledge some money, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa Trailer – Johnny Knoxville puts on some craggy make-up

August 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many were surprised a couple of weeks ago when it was announced a new Jackass movie was on the way, especially as it had already been shot and far enough down the line that Paramount slotted it into an October 25th release date (which has been vacated when they decided to delay Paranormal Activity 5).

Now the trailer for the movie has arrived, showing us that this is slightly different to previous movie. Johnny Knoxville puts of his Irving Zisman old-man make-up for movie, which will be partly improvised and partially scripted. As the trailer shows though, it’s still crammed with Jackass-style madness.

Here’s the synopsis: ’86 year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companions, his 8 year-old Grandson Billy in “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.” This October, the signature Jackass character Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera.

‘Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term childrearing. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants (and their equally disgruntled mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens.

‘Real people in unreal situations, making for one really messed up comedy.’ [Read more…]

The Wolverine (Cinema)

Starring: Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Will Yun Lee, Hugh Jackman
Director: James Mangold
Running Time: 126 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: 25 July 2013

Hugh Jackman returns from flexing his vocal chords in Les Miserables to more familiar territory of flexing his muscles in his sixth outing as Logan, AKA The Wolverine. Jackman stated he wanted to explore who the man was behind Logan – the mutant with Adamantium claws – and he manages to do so with James Mangold at the helm

So after five previous outings as Logan (we’re counting his brief appearance in X-Men: First Class), where can his new ‘vision’ take us? Well, based on an old and much Marvel comic book story arc, this time around Wolverine is enticed to visit Japan by Yukio and summoned to the deathbed of an old ‘friend’, Yashida, who states he can offer Wolverine mortality. Things being to take a dangerous turn when an attempt is made to kidnap Yashida’s daughter, Mariko. [Read more…]
