‘Batman Ninja’ is a title that sounds like the fever dream of a six-year-old, but it’s not inaccurate for this latest DC animated movie. The film takes the Caped Crusader to Japan and into full-on anime mode, as this was produced and animated in the Land Of The Rising Sun. As the Japanese production company behind the film says in the special features, they were allowed to make a movie where Batman was essentially a guest in their country and had to adapt to their way of doing things, rather than the other way around. As a result this is a Japanese film with Batman in it, rather a Batman film set in Japan.
In the film, after an incredibly quick setup Batman is mysteriously thrown back in time after something goes wrong with the villainous Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine. The Caped Crusader finds himself in medieval Japan, but one that’s got a few problems as the time machine also sent a Rogues Gallery of Gotham’s bad guys into the past. Those villains arrived two years before Batman, which has given the likes of Joker, Poison Ivy, Bane and Penguin time to start gaining control of Japan, using their futuristic knowledge and evil skulduggery to control the locals. The recent Goodbye Christopher Robin took a traditional biopic look at Winnie The Pooh creator AA Milne. Well, Disney has a slightly different take on the life of Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, by completely fictionalising it and turning Winnie into a CG character in a live-action world.
With the massive, multi-award winning success of Robin Campillo’s 120 Beats Per Minute, Peccadillo Pictures is reissuing the director’s earlier movie, Eastern Boys, on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK. It’s a great film we gave 9/10 to on its first release, so it’s definitely worth a watch. We’ve teamed up with Peccadillo to give away three copies of Eastern Boys on Blu-ray in this competition.
To celebrate the release of THE LOST VIKING – available on Digital HD and DVD 28th May 2018 – we are giving away a copy on DVD.
The film opens in Paris, where Wilde, by now in his forties, penniless and in poor health, is still reeling after being imprisoned in England for his love affair with Lord Alfred ‘Bosie’ Douglas (Morgan). Out of prison but a pariah, Wilde swings between grief and a determination to wrest whatever pleasure and beauty he can from the time he has left. His body ailing and heavy, his mind spinning, he survives by falling back on the flamboyant irony and brilliant wit that defined him.
From actor, underwear model and all round hottie Max Emerson comes Hooked, which marks his multi-hyphenate feature debut as a writer, director and producer. He’s certainly showing he’s a man of many talents, and a generous one, as some of the film’s profits have been earmarked for LGBTQ charities.

When you read the synopsis for Hotel Artemis, it sounds like it should be part of the John Wick universe, but it must have a little more going for it than that to bring in a cast including Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Jeff Goldblum, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista. Now we can take a look at the film with the first trailer.
Synopsis: ‘Set in South Africa in 1985 against a backdrop of apartheid, religion and war, Canary is a charming musical drama that chronicles one teen’s struggle to find his voice.
1973’s Papillon, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman is undoubtedly a classic, but one that suprisingly few people have seen. However, Hollywood is hoping people will be happy to show up for a remake, which sees Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek take over the central roles.
An impressive cast has come together for Boy Erased, based on Garrard Conley’s powerful memoir about being forced into gay conversion therapy.
