Old Dogs & New Tricks Season 3 Trailer – The gay-themed web series is back in November

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

old-dogs-new-tricks-s3The WeHo escapades of middle-aged gay best buds Nathan, Brad, Ross & Muscles continue beginning Nov. 12, 2014, when popular gay web series Old Dogs & New Tricks returns for its long-awaited third season.

The season premiere picks up one week after the events of the show’s recent Halloween-set “mini-movie” WeHo Horror Story, with Nathan reeling from Damian’s disappearance and Ross preparing for his impending gay divorce. But this year, the show expands its scope:

“We still see the guys’ romantic misadventures,” explains show creator/writer/star Leon Acord. “But this year, we also see more of their successes and mistakes in their professional lives.  We may have fewer sex scenes this year, but the ones we have are more outrageous than ever–including the show’s first bare ass!”

The new season also features guest-star appearances from Rutanya Alda (Mommie Dearest), who plays Nelson Van Eddy’s haughty personal assistant Barbara Fierce in four episodes. Mo Gaffney (Absolutely Fabulous) appears in the season premiere as Ross’ divorce attorney, while Kathryn Leigh Scott (Dark Shadows) plays Muscles’ mom, Lily Anne, in the season finale. Jim J. Bullock (Too Close for Comfort) makes a cameo as Nathan’s latest celebrity-quack therapist.

The entire principal cast returns for the new season. Besides Acord as neurotic talent agent Nathan, the show stars Curt Bonnem as hedonistic Brad, Jeffrey Patrick Olson as wholesome Muscles, David Pevsner as struggling actor Ross & Amanda Gari (in an expanded role) as Nathan’s wise-cracking “girl-Friday” Lydia Lasker.  Bruce L. Hart appears in three episodes as resident villain Nelson, as does Parnell Damone Marcano as Ross’ estranged spouse Neal.

New episodes debut each subsequent Wednesday at www.OldDogsNewTricksTheSeries.com and the show’s YouTube channel (youtube/OldDogsTheSeries).

“I’m very proud of this season,” says Acord, “Our cast and crew all brought their A-game, and it shows. I can honestly say its our best yet. I can’t wait to see what our viewers think!

Take a look at the trailer for the new season below. [Read more…]

Boy Meets Girl (Best Feature Film, Iris Prize Festival 2014)

October 18, 2014 By Scott Elliott 3 Comments

Starring: Michelle Hendley, Michael Welch, Alexandra Turshen, Eric Schaeffer
Director: Eric Schaeffer
Running Time: 95 mins
Release Date: October 10th 2014

This is a beautiful movie.

Set somewhere in the Deep South of America, we meet Rikki, a transgender girl who laments that her small home town contains no boys she could fall in love with, so jokingly says she’ll try to find a girl instead. She almost immediately bumps into beautiful stranger Francesca, and the two hit it off as friends.

While Francesca is initially very naive about Rikki’s transgender issues, she doesn’t let that get in the way of their friendship. Slowly their relationship deepens and both girls begin to explore different aspects of their own sexuality, despite Francesca’s fiancée, a US Marine currently away on a tour of duty, expressing his disgust at everything Rikki represents. Helicopter Mom (Iris Prize 2014 Review)

October 18, 2014 By Scott Elliott Leave a Comment

Starring: Nia Vardalos, Jason Dolley, Mark Boone Junior
Director: Salomé Breziner
Running Time: 83 mins
Release Date: October 10th 2014

Maggie, a single mother in the US, is terrified of losing her only son Lloyd when he graduates and moves away to college, and so does her best to control his life as much as possible before he goes. Lloyd, played to nonplussed and eventually exasperated perfection by Jason Dolley, pushes back as she hangs on tighter, and when she realises the only way her beloved son can afford to attend college is with a minority scholarship, she outs him as gay to the whole school in order to apply. The only problem being that Lloyd doesn’t really know whether he’s gay or not, and of course his mother won’t listen.

The term ‘Helicopter Mom’ comes from the behaviour of certain parents who are always hovering over their children, never letting them find their own way without being told what to do. Cue a dozen cringe moments along the lines of the hit American pie series, without the gross-out factor. (The closest this movie gets to gross-out are the overly-tight outfits and youthful hair on Nia Vardalos as she gives a delightfully manic performance as Maggie.) [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Physical Education Students From Finland Get Sexy For A Calendar

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

finnish-student-calendar2-slideIf things keep going at this rate, we’ll have to set up a global competition where every nation has to make a charity calendar full of shirtless studs and then we judge which is the best. Actually, considering the number of hot guy calendars we seem to cover on BGPS, we’re already pretty much doing that.

Joining the likes of the US, UK, Holland, Romania, and Ireland, comes Finland, where they’ve lined up some of their best specimens – all physical education students at the University of Jyväskylä (and no, I don’t think that jumble of letters can be a real place either) – who’ve taken off their shirts and gone to do manly things in the woods in order to help raise money for the Icehearts charity

You can take a look at a few of the pics below, and if you’re fluent in Suomi (that’s the Finnish language, you philistine) you can find out more by clicking here. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Andrew Christian Models Want To Blow

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

andrew-christian-blowThe Andrew Christian video fairies are back and this time they’ve got heavily into neon and clothing that only looks good on Andrew Christian models (although I’m sure we could all try to pull off the underpants and pretend we’re 20-year-olds with washboard abs).

It’s all a bit random, but if you’re into shafts of light and people homoerotically writhing, it certainly ticks the boxes. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, but I do kind of miss the days when AC vids were simpler and more fun – although I’m sure I’ll have to watch this one a few more times so I can properly make the comparisons between the old and the new.

Take a look at the video below, and if you want to see some more Andrew Christian videos, click here. [Read more…]

Shining Moon Film Heading Into Latino LGBT Culture & It Needs Your Help (You Could Even Get Mooned Yourself)

October 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shining-moon-slideDescribed as a ‘colourful, hilarious and poignant feature film about love and redemption’, Shining Moon hopes to take us into Latino gay and drag culture, but to do that it needs your help as it’s launched an Indiegogo campaign with the hope of raising the $35,000 it needs to plug its funding gap and get it in the can.

There is also at least one rather unusual perk if you give enough money, and if you like ass and have $7,000 spare, the key actors will moon you in a personal video! It certainly makes a difference from just getting a copy of the film or having your name on a website.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Renato and Ivan are two middle aged actors, living in a gay relationship that has become monotonous and unexciting over the years. Their precarious lives are stretched to the limit as they try to find ways to make quality theater in Chile, a country which cares less and less about art and culture.

‘Their daily routine suddenly changes when Anibal, a handsome young filmmaker who is not gay casts them in a film based on a famous drama about the lives of Lola and Ana, two poor, outcast, elderly drag queens who were once bright lights in the Latino LGBT firmament. The deeply human story of Lola and Ana will reveal their restrictions, dreams, fears and joy.

‘However, Renato and Ivan are also part of a society that segregates and discriminates and they must overcome their own prejudices to play such challenging characters – Lola and Ana, who likes to show up with their fantasy names Luna and Sol.

‘As Renato and Ivan confront their own demons and heal ancient sorrows they discover a new opportunity to defeat their fears, redeem themselves as talented actors and find new meaning to their own personal lives.’

You can take a look at the fundraising video below, and if you like the look of the movie, head over to Indiegogo to head out. [Read more…]

Land Of Storms (Iris Prize Festival 2014 Review)

October 17, 2014 By Scott Elliott 1 Comment

Starring: András Sütö, Sebastian Urzendowsky, Ádám Varga, Lajos Ottó Horváth
Director: Ádám Császi
Running Time: 105 mins
Release Date: October 9th 2014

Land Of Storms centres around a promising yet troubled and angry football player, Szabi, played with high-quality brooding by Andras Suto. No longer enjoying the beautiful game, Szabi moves back to Hungary to the house he inherited from his grandfather. When he starts to renovate the house, which has become very tumbledown and rotten due to vandalism and lack of care, he meets a young man called Arun (Adam Varga) who lives nearby. Szabi and Arun begin to work on the house together and as they get to know each other, a deeper relationship starts to blossom.

Eventually the extremely religious and intolerant locals, never keen on Arun’s relationship with this newcomer, start to understand that there’s something more than friendship between the two. Add to that the appearance of Szabi’s German friend and possible lover Bernard (Sebastian Urzendowsky), and a three-way dynamic begins to unfold, which the locals don’t like at all. [Read more…]

The Third One (Iris Prize Festival 2014 Review)

October 17, 2014 By Scott Elliott 1 Comment

Starring: Carlos Echevarría, Emiliano Dionisi, Nicolás Armengol
Director: Rodrigo Guerrero
Running Time: 70 mins
Release Date: October 9th 2014

This tale of a modern-day sexual encounter starts with an online flirtation between Fede, a young gay man, and an older gay couple whose relationship is several years old. They flirt on webcam and MSN Messenger, teasing the viewer and each other with a little nudity and eventually decide to meet up.

Fede goes around to their flat and they have dinner together. It’s a very relaxed and unrushed sexual encounter that shows the characters taking a little time to get to know one another, which is nice to see rather than just jumping into bed together. As they talk, the relationship between the older men opens up, as does Fede when talking about himself, and both the characters and the viewer understand a little more about how neither side’s situation is as perfect as it seems from the outside. The Samurai (Iris Prize Festival 2014 Review)

October 17, 2014 By Scott Elliott Leave a Comment

Starring: Michel Diercks, Pit Bukowski, Uwe Preuss
Director: Till Kleinert
Running Time: 79 mins
Release Date: October 10th 2014

The Samurai comes from director Till Kleinert, a previous winner of the Iris Prize for his brilliant short film Cowboy, and with this film he stays in unnerving territory.

The title character in this film is a homicidal maniac wielding a katana and wearing a pretty white dress (played to mind-searingly chilling heights by Pit Bukowski). He’s slowly destroying the community and sanity of policeman Jakob (Michel Dierks), whose dogged attempts to capture and subdue him slowly become an obsession. [Read more…]
