Jamie Dornan Up For The 9th Life of Louis Drax

August 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fifty-shades-pic1Hollywood obviously thinks Fifty Shades Of Grey has the potential to turn Jamie Dornan into a big star, as the Irish actor is already booking new roles, with Miramax announcing  Dornan will star in the Alexandre Aja (Horns, The Hills Have Eyes) directed movie, The 9th Life of Louis Drax.

Max Minghella, who’s best known as an actor (The Internship, The Social Network), makes his screenwriting debut. It’s not too surprising he’s good with words as he is the son of Oscar-winning writer/director Anthony Minghella. Indeed when the film rights were purchased back in 2004, it was the plan for the English Patient and Talented Mr. Ripley helmer to adapt it himself. Sadly Anthony died in 2008 and Max has now taken over.

The movie is based on Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel of the same title which, ‘begins on Louis Drax’s 9th birthday, when he suffers a near-fatal fall. In order to reveal the strange circumstances surrounding the young boy’s accident – Dr. Allan Pascal (Jamie Dornan) is drawn into a thrilling mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.’

Aja comments, “Max’s script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life.”

Filming will commence this October in Vancouver, Canada.

Tom Hanks & Ron Howard Head For Dan Brown’s Inferno Next April

August 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hanks-angels-and-demonsLast year Tom Hanks and Ron Howards loosely agreed to reteam for their third adaptation of one of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon novels. While a film version of The Lost Symbol had defeated them (it’s believed the logistics of shooting in and around some of Washington DC’s most famous landmarks proved too difficult), they thought Inferno might be able to make it to the screen.

Now it seems it’s coming to fruition, as Deadline reports that the film is due to start production next April.

In Inferno, symbologist Robert Langdon once more get thrust into the heart of a mystery, this time revolving around medieval poet Dante Alghieri. However to make things a little more complicated Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia. He has no idea what’s going on but it soon becomes clear it has something to do with a global plague, as well as artefacts to do with Dante.

A December 18th, 2015 release has already been set.

James Ellroy Takes On Remake Of Classic Noir Laura

August 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

laura-otto-premingerJames Ellroy has long loved the world of film noir and hardboiled literature with his novels such as LA Confidential and The Black Dahlia. Now he’s heading directly into the noir world of the 40s as he has signed up to script a remake of the 1944 classic, Laura, according to THR.

Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb and Vincent Price starred in Otto Preminger’s 1944 original, which is about a detective investigating a murder. As he finds out more about the dead women he ends up falling in love with her. However things with Laura aren’t quite what his investigation initially seems to suggest.

The movie was nominated for five Oscars, winning for Best Cinematography. At the moment no director is attached to the remake, and there’s no info on when the film might shoot.

Superman (aka Henry Cavill) Takes The Ice Bucket Challenge In Full Costume

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

henry-cavill-ice-bucket-challengeEvery famous person on the planet has now done the Ice Bucket Challenge it seems, and that includes Superman, who sat down with Lois Lane to get drenched with water.

Okay, it was Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, who took time off from shooting Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice to take part in the challenge, but they did it in full costume. So if you’ve ever wondered what the Man Of Steel would look like after multiple people have poured buckets of water over him, this is your chance.

It’s a fun vid and we have to say when he sits like that there’s a bit more super-bulge than we normally get to see.

Of course Henry and Amy are doing it to support ALS awareness and fundraising. In the UK ALS is known as Motor Neurone Disease and so Brits can give a bit of cash to the MND Association to show their support, while in the US it’s the ALSA that should be getting your money.

Take a look below and you can find all our other Ice Bucket Challenge posts here. [Read more…]

The Wilding Gay-Themed Short Film – Watch the Iris Prize winning film and help turn it into a feature film

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wilding-slideThe wonderful The Wilding won the prestigious Iris Prize a couple of years ago, and we were certainly impressed when we saw it.

Now you can watch the entire 16-minute short online, for a limited time – and it’s well worth taking a lok.

And if you like it you can also help turn it into a feature film (sort of), as director Grant Scicluna is in the final few days of trying to raise $40,000 AUS for the movie Downriver. He says of The Wilding that, ‘To a degree it precedes the story of Downriver’.

Here’s Downriver’s synopsis: ‘DOWNRIVER is a mystery drama feature film. Teenager James has served time for drowning a little boy when he was a child, although the body was never found. With little time and danger at every turn, James must uncover dark truths if he is to return the boy’s body to his grieving mother.

‘DOWNRIVER is a film in the style of WINTER’S BONE, THE BOYS or the TV series TOP OF THE LAKE. The film is confronting, dark, tense and will be controversial. It is also a tender story about friendship and forgiveness. This is the very reason why it is worth doing.

‘We believe there’s an audience hungry for strong, emotional, complex material. We need your help to raise the final portion of the budget to enable us to start production in September.

Scicluna adds, “We believe there’s an audience hungry for strong, emotional, complex material. We need your help to raise the final portion of the budget to enable us to start production in September.”

If you wish to help out, head over to Pozible. [Read more…]

The Iris Prize LGBT Film Festival Announces Its Extended Feature Programme

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Way-He-Looks-slideA young man in a woman’s dress wielding a Samurai’s sword, hotly pursued by the young village police man, who is clearly out of his depth, is just one of the many stories celebrated by the 8th Iris Prize Festival. The five day LGBT film festival boasts a bigger than usual programme with 17 feature films.

European films are well represented with seven making the programme including the German offering, Der Samurai by former Iris Prize winner Till Kleinert. The film has been described as an impressive debut feature and “one of the best and weirdest films I watched” by a reviewer following the South America premier in Fantaspoa. Closer to home organisers of FrightFest have identified the film as one of the top 10 to watch at the annual London horror festival. Till will be attending the screening in Cardiff.

As a counterbalance the festival organisers are delighted to be screening The Way He Looks (pictured above) by another Iris Prize winner, Daniel Ribiero from Brazil who will be attending the screening in Cardiff. The film is a feature length version of his popular 2011 Iris Prize winning short about a blind boy who falls in love with the new boy in class.

“The Iris family is growing and this year we will have 4 previous winners join us in Cardiff. Till from Germany and Daniel from Brazil return with new feature films as they dominate the world film festival circuit. We also have the company of Tim Marshall, our winner from 2013 who has just finished filming Followers, his new Iris Prize funded short film. And if that was not enough we are also delighted to welcome back Eldar Rapaport (Iris Prize winner 2009) who will chair the Best Feature Film Jury,” said Festival Chair Andrew Pierce.

As announced previously the 2014 festival will open with the World Premiere of Jayson Bend: Queen and Country. Jayson Bend is your typical charming gay secret agent. But whilst on a routine mission he retrieves an artefact that reveals hints to a sinister plot by Raymond Perdood, a billionaire hair dressing tycoon who owns the largest global chain of hair salons.

“What better way to open our festival in a year that we are celebrating the Best of British than with a very charming British gay secret agent!” added Andrew.

“I’m delighted and thrilled that ‘Jayson Bend: Queen and Country’ has been chosen as the opening film for the prestigious Iris Prize Festival. It’s wonderful that all the hard work put into making the film has paid off. October is looking to be an exciting month!” said Matt Carter the film’s director.

You can find the full Iris Prize Festival programme by clicking here:

The on-line box office opens on Monday 8 September 2014. (Members Priority Booking opens Wednesday 27 August – through Sunday 7 September).

Zachary Quinto Proves He Doesn’t Need Pants To Watch The Emmys

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zachary-quinto-emmys-underwearZachary Quinto sure likes posting pics to Instagram, and that includes letting us know that he didn’t put pants on until the Emmys had already started last night.

We’re not entirely sure who took the picture of Quinto above, but we’re certainly glad they did.

Quinto was far from the LA ceremony as he’s currently in New York shooting Michael, in which he plays the ex-lover of James Franco’s ex-gay character. As he says on Instagram, ‘literally watching the emmys as i change clothes between scenes for our movie… no complaints. GO FRIENDS!!!’

Yes Zachary, you were just changing clothes and not deciding watching TV in your underwear was the best plan.

The Normal Heart Wins Best TV Movie Emmy, But That’s Its Only Win

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

normal-heart-bomer-ruffaloIt was a mixed night for LGBT interest at the Emmys yesterday. There was some good news, including Jim Parsons picking up his fourth Emmy for The Big Bang Theory and gay-friendly Modern Family tying the record for most Best Comedy Series wins by making it five in a row.

However most had expected the big LGBT winner of the evening to be The Normal Heart. However while it picked up the prestigious Best TV Movie gong, it was shut out in all the other categories. That includes losing in the Best Supporting Actor category, which many had expected Matt Bomer to win easily. Some now feel the fact it had four our of six nominations in that category ended up splitting its vote, handing it to Martin Freeman for Sherlock instead.

Orange Is The New Black also walked away empty-handed, although Uzo Aduba did pick up Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for playing Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren earlier this month at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Take a look below for the moment The Normal Heart won Best TV Movie, where director Ryan Murphy and many of the cast were joined on stage by writer Larry Kramer.

Chris Hemsworth & Charlie Day Heading Off On Vacation

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-HemsworthEven though it has seemed close to going into production, back in April 2013 New Line put an indefinite delay on its long-planned reboot of the Vacation franchise. However now it seems it’s getting back on track, with THR reporting that Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are in talks to star.

Ed Helms is still onboard to play Rusty Griswold, the adult son of Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold from the original Vacation movies. As you might expect, the new film involves another vacation, this time involving Rusty and his wife (Christina Applegate).

Hemsworth will apparently play the boyfriend of Rusty’s sister Audrey, with Charlie Day as a river raft touring guide.

Last year both Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo were both signed on to reprise their roles as the older Griswolds, but it’s not clear if they’re still involved.

It seems the film will start shooting fairly soon, with Hemsworth squeezing it in between Avengers: Age Of Ultron and The Huntsman, which is due to start shooting in early 2015.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are set to direct, working from their own script.

Yes We’re Ice Bucket Challenge Obsessed: Colton Haynes, John Barrowman, Tom Hanks, George Takei, Gregg Sulkin’s Shrinkage & Nude Dan Osborne

August 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ice-bucket-5If you’re not interested in the Ice Bucket Challenge we apologise. Over the the last couple of weeks we have become rather obsessed with famous guys pouring buckets of cold water over their heads. We haven’t finished with the meme yet though, as this time we have Colton Haynes, John Barrowman, George Takei, Tom Hanks, Gregg Sulkin and Dan Osborne.

You may be wondering who the last two are. Well, Sulkin is a young actor from Wizards of Waverly Place and Faking It, and we only included him because we were amused by his comments about what the Ice Bucket Challenge did to his package. Osborne meanwhile is a British reality TV star who’s gained many gay fans due to the fact he has no worries about showing off some skin, as he shows here with his naked challenge.

Oh and with John Barrowman being John Barrowman, it’s not too surprising his hot hubby is just wearing a jockstrap in his vid.

Of course they’re all doing it to support ALS awareness and fundraising. In the UK ALS is known as Motor Neurone Disease and so Brits can give a bit of cash to the MND Association to show their support, while in the US it’s the ALSA that should be getting your money.

And for those moaning that it’s stupid and pointless, the ALSA has said that in the last few weeks they’ve received around $65 million, as compared to around $2.5 million during the same period last year.

If you have been underneath a rock for the past few days and want to catch up on the many, many celebs who’ve been drenched in the name of charity, you can check out:

Matt Bomer, Chris Pratt, Joe Manganiello, Stephen Amell, Robert Downey Jr., Jesse Metcalfe, Lance Bass, and boyband Emblem3

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Vin Diesel, The Flash’s Grant Gustin and James Franco,

Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Cruise, Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, Jamie Dornan, Eddie Redmayne & Robert Pattinson

James McAvoy, Chris Evans, Ian McKellen, Neil Patrick Harris, Sam Claflin, Hugh Jackman and Josh Hutcherson.

So take a look at Takei and co. below as well as the guys in the other Ice Bucket Challenge posts and then think about putting your hand into your pocket. [Read more…]
