million-dollar-arm-quadBased on a true story, MILLION DOLLAR ARM is an inspirational and uplifting journey packed with funny moments which celebrates teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family. With business failing, struggling US sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) travels to India in a last ditch effort to save his career by finding a young cricketer to turn into a major sports star.

With the help of a cantankerous retired talent scout (Alan Arkin) JB sets up a national contest called “The Million Dollar Arm” and discovers Rinku (played by Life of Pi’s Suraj Sharma) and Dinesh (Slumdog Millionaire’s Madhur Mittal), two 18-year-old boys who have a knack for throwing a fastball. Hoping to make a quick buck he brings them to LA to train, however the boys, who have never left their rural villages before, struggle as they try to adjust to their new life and cope with the pressure being heaped on them. His livelihood on the line and relationship with the boys at stake, with the help of his friend Brenda (Lake Bell) JB realises that family and friendships are more important than sealing the deal.

I Am Syd Stone Trailer – Take a look at the the Iris Prize nominated gay-themed short film

i-am-syd-stone-poster-slideA couple of days ago we brought you the list of the films that are lining up to compete for this year’s Iris Prize, the world’s largest international gay and lesbian short film prize which takes place in Cardiff, Wales in October.

One of the films in competition is the Canadian short, I Am Syd Stone, so it seemed like a great opportunity to take a look at the film’s trailer. You can watch that below, as well as take a look at the great poster.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘A Hollywood heartthrob returns home for his ten-year high school reunion with the intention of rekindling a closeted relationship.’

In his director’s statement on the film’s website, helmer Denis Theriault comments, “In the film, Syd is at a point in his life where he’s achieved all he’s ever dreamed of. At 27 years old he has hit his peak. That’s a dangerous position to be in. How does one react to that? We always set goals and tell ourselves that when they’re achieved, our lives will be better for it. Oftentimes, that’s not the case. We get to that milestone or goal and we’re still left feeling empty. That’s where we find ourselves at the beginning of the film. Syd’s achieved this success, but has no one with whom to share it.

“I’m also incredibly fascinated by the public personas put on by celebrities. They’re never truly themselves other than when they’re alone or with loved ones (I guess, in a sense, we’re all actors).

“Ultimately, this film is a catharsis for me. The person I was, even 5 years ago, would never have believed that he would be tackling a gay subject in film, especially in such a personal way. I now am an out-and-proud man. All of the people I was afraid of telling either know or don’t care enough to ask. All they’re concerned with is if I’m talented, that’s it. As it often happens in life, we make bigger deals of situations than we really need to. But in that moment, it doesn’t matter. We feel like the whole world will come down on us.”

Gal Gadot Joins Kevin Costner & Ryan Reynolds In Criminal

gal-gadotAt the moment there are a lot of people who have no idea what a Gal Gadot is. However in the next couple of years the Fast & Furious actress has a great shot of becoming a household name. She’s currently filming the role of Wonder Woman in Superman Vs Batman: Dawn Of Justice, and now she’s booked another film, Criminal, according to THR.

Last weekend Ryan Reynolds also signed up to star alongside Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones, which is about a ruthless killer (Costner) who chooses to take part in a scientific experiment instead of spending the rest of his life in jail. He gets implanted with the brain of a recently-murdered CIA field operative (Reynolds) in the hope that he will stop a diabolical plot.

Gadot is set to play Reynold’s wife.

Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) is set directing from a screenplay by David Weisberg and Douglas Cook.

Tom Hiddleston Sought For Title Role In Ben-Hur Remake

Tom-HiddlestonFor quite a while now a remake of Ben-Hur has been in the works. Now it’s starting to move towards production with Deadline reporting that Tom Hiddleston is MGM, Paramount Pictures and director Timur Bekmambetov’s top choice to play the lead role.

It doesn’t appear an official offer has been extended to the actor yet, and Hiddleston has other offers on the table, but it seems he’s the one the studios want.

Keith R. Clarke wrote the spec script for the film, which is said to be more faithful to Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel than the multi-Oscar winning 1959 movie, which starred Charlton Heston.

The 1950s version focussed on the section of the story that was about the feud between the Jewish Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) and his Roman former friend Messalla (Stephen Boyd). The new film is said to further explore these characters’ formative years, when they grew up together before the Roman Empire conquered Jerusalem.

This film will also include the story of Jesus Christ, whose story is told in parallel to Ben-Hur’s. Although this was touched on in the Charlton Heston film, it’s said to be more central to the remake.

Would Gay Porn Be Better Without All That Sex? One Studio Gives It A Try

bellboyIf there’s one thing that’s annoying about porn, it’s all the sex. Just as you’re getting involved with the complex characters, being impressed by the Oscar-calibre acting, and you’re sat on the edge of your seat wondering whether that plumber really does have a big enough plunger to do the job, they interrupt things with people shagging!

Well, Brititsh gay porn studio Eurocreme seems to agree, as while tradition dictates they release versions of their movies filled with hardcore sex, they’ve also decided to chop out all that penile nonsense and release them as short films on Youtube. And because it’s Youtube, we’re talking pretty tame on the sexual front.

It’s a seemingly odd idea, especially as it essentially chops an 80 minute film down to 20 and removes everything that you’d normally think people watch porn for. However Eurocreme’s hope is that by bringing in mainstream director Blacky Mendez for many of the latest films in their Dreamboy range, they’ll be able to make a different, higher-calibre kind of movie.

While not 100% successful, it’s nice to see that genuine effort has been put in to telling stories with a beginning, middle and end, with some sort of emotional throughline to go in amongst the sex (and to be honest, they’re better than quite a few of the mainstream gay-themed short films produced each year). Bellboy in particular works surprisingly well as a short film in its own right, telling the story of a young man feeling disillusioned with gay life after his boyfriend cheats on him.

Yes, they have to contrive reasons for people to start having sex every five minutes (and on Youtube it really is just the very beginning), but there’s genuine character development and a real interest in exploring the temptations and frustrations of modern gay life. And there certainly aren’t many porn movies where the central theme is someone’s desire for fidelity.

Even so, you’ve got to think that if you had the full version, a lot of people would just fast-forward through everything that’s included in the Youtube editions.

You can take a look at three of the films below – Cottageboy, Bellboy and Choirboy (in case you hadn’t guessed, most Dreamboy movies end with the word ‘boy’) – in their pretty much sex-free form and you can see what you think of hardcore porn movies turned into penis-free, gay-themed short films. Lesbian Queer Comedy Film S&M Sally Looks For Funding

sm-salliy-slideThe film S&M Sally promises to take on ‘taboo topics in the most charming of ways’, but it can only do that if it can get the money to get the film in the can. To raise the cash, the director has launched a Kickstarter campaign to make $25,000, with the hope of shooting the movie this autumn.

The film is actually a semi-sequel as it revolves around four returning characters that were first introduced in 2007 with the feature Butch Jamie, and further developed in 2013 with Heterosexual Jill.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When Jamie finds out her girlfriend Jill has spent time exploring S&M, her insecurities about falling behind in the bedroom push her to propose that they start going to underground clubs. Jamie decides to use the pseudonym Sally so she can stay anonymous but still look like she’s using her real name, which apparently she thinks makes her look cool. Identifying as the butch one in a traditional butch/femme couple, “Sally” assumes she will take the dominant role in their escapades, with Jill as her submissive, but Jill has ideas of her own.’

Crush Of The Day: Sexy Jack Eyers Strips Off To Make A Point & Promote Charity

strip-for-scopeBack in the 1980s in the UK, Nick Kamen for starring in a Levi’s commercial where he stripped to his boxer shorts in a launderette. 29-years-on from that classic advert a new riff on it has arrived with buff and sexy personal trainer and fitness model Jack Eyers doing something very similar.

The difference here is that Eyers isn’t in a launderette, he’s headed to a Scope charity shop to give them his clothes to sell. Scope started out as a charity helping those with cerebral palsy, but has since broadened out to campaign about and improve the lives of people with all sorts of disabilities.

As you’ll see there’s a particular reason Eyers may be keen to help Scope, as he lost his leg at the age of 16 due to a rare condition called Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency.

“In the Scope ad I play a guy who takes a charity appeal a bit far. It was fun. The false leg has made me stronger,” Eyers told the BBC. “I’m determined to show disability needn’t stop you living a normal life.”

“I’m actually now more self-conscious when I wear trousers than when I wear shorts. I’m always wearing shorts,” he added. “I want people to see it. It’s part of me. I show it off now.”

James Franco Shows Off His ‘New Lover’ Zachary Quinto

james-franco-zachary-quintoToday’s daily instalment of ‘What is James Franco up to?’ has him posting a pic on Instagram of the actor sharing a car with Zachary Quinto. He accompanied it with the message, ‘My new lover, SPOCK! @zacharyquinto‘.

The comment is presumably another reaction to the recent Gawker article that took basically no evidence and spun it into proof that Franco was in a gay relationship with his friend Scott Haze. As Gawker’s main evidence was that Franco and Haze took one car home instead of two, there is some logic to the fact that a pic of him in a vehicle with Quinto means they are practically married.

The two are together as they’re currently co-starring in Michael, in which Franco play Michael Glatze, who went from being a prominent gay rights advocate to becoming one of the poster-boys for the ex-gay movement when he found God, renounced his homosexuality and married a woman. Quinto plays one of Glatze’s former lovers.

Mortdecai Trailer – Johnny Depp turns art-dealer and part time rogue

mortdecai-logoLast time Johnny Depp went on a global in The Tourist, it didn’t work out too well. He’ll be hoping for better from Mortdecai, based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s 1970s book, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.

Now the first trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

‘MORTDECAI is directed by David Koepp and stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum and Paul Bettany.

New Map To The Stars Trailer – Robert Pattinson reunites with David Cronenberg

maps-to-the-stars-quad-largeBack in April we got the first trailer for David Cronenberg’s Map To The Stars, and now we get a fresh look with a UK promo, which shows off the great cast, including Robert Pattinson, Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Sarah Gadon, Olivia Williams and Carrie Fisher.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Weiss family are an archetypical Hollywood dynasty – Dr Stafford Weiss (John Cusack) is a psychotherapist whose self-help books have made him a fortune. His wife Cristina (Olivia Williams) is the overbearing mom-ager of their thirteen-year old son, Benjie (Evan Bird), a prodigious child star fresh out of drug rehab and their estranged daughter Agatha (Mia Wasikowska) has recently been released from a psychiatric hospital. Agatha is now back in Hollywood making friends with a wannabe actor/writer limo driver named Jerome (Robert Pattinson) and with a new job as PA to one of Stafford’s clients – the neurotic and tempestuous actress Havana Segrand (Julianne Moore), whose dream of reprising her dead mother’s starring role from the 1960s is beginning to haunt her.’

Crush Of The Day: The Boys Of Bridgend Get Naked To Raise Money For Male Cancers

To help prove it – and raise plenty of cash for charity – there’s the Boys Of Bridgend calendar, where photographer Russ Hughes has convinced a bevy of rugged hunks to strip naked to help make money for male cancers.

Russ says, “The calendar is supporting the Everyman Appeal, which is for male specific cancers and we are hoping to reach £10,000 for the cause through sales. We have an online store that we are selling through which is boysofbridgend.ecwid.com it’s just a small store but it’s doing the trick for us so far. I shot the calendar pulling in favours from guys I know to pose for me. They’re all aged between about 22 and 34 in jobs ranging from labourers to retail assistants.”

We’re certainly liking the fact these guys look like real people, with their innate sexiness brought out in the hot monochrome pics.
