Ethan Hawke Reteaming With Andrew Niccol For Drone Pilot Thriller

October 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ethan-hawkeEthan Hawke has previously worked with director Andrew Niccol on Gattaca and Lord of War. Now they’re teaming up again, with Deadline reporting that they’re making a currenly untitled thriller set within the world of drone pilots.

Hawke will play a troubled pilot who live in Las Vegas and spends 12 hours a day operating drones, coming home to a bickering wife and children for the rest of his day. He begins to question his mission and whether or not his work fighting the Taliban is actually creating more terrorists than the ones he kills via remote control every day.

It isn’t known if Andrew Niccol wrote the screenplay, but since he has written all of his films in the past, it seems likely. Filming is due to begin during February 2014.

Since Charlie Hunnam exited Fifty Shades of Grey, Universal has been scrambling to find a replacement to play Christian Grey, with the likes of Alexander Skargaard, Francois Arnaud, Billy Magnussen & Luke Bracey in contention. Now the role has gone to Jamie Dornan, according to Variety.

Belfast born Dornan is a former model turned actor, who’s appeared in Marie Antoinette and Shadows In The Run, but gained many more fans as Sheriff Graham in TV’s Once Upon A Time. During his modelling career he certainly wasn’t averse to showing off his body, as you can see below. He’s certainly gonna make a sexy Christian Grey.

He will now play the highly coveted role of a young billionaire who gets into a kinky S&M filled relationship with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Sam Taylor-Wood is set to direct, with filming kicking off next month, for a summer 2014 release. [Read more…]

Drunktown’s Finest, Starring Native American Transsexual Actress Carmen Moore, Seeks Funding

October 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s still very rare for transsexual actors to be given transsexual role, however Drunktown’s Finest is setting out to buck that trend, casting Navajo transsexual actress Carmen Moore in one of its lead roles. The movie has already been shot, but is now looking for completion funding on Kickstarter, in the hope it’ll be ready for the Sundance Film Festival in January.

The movie follows ‘3 Native Americans: a college-bound student, a father-to-be, and a promiscuous transsexual struggle to escape their Indian reservation.’ Writer/director Sydney Freeland created the movie in response to a news report she saw, which branded her community Drunktown USA.

The transsexual character, Felixia, faces the struggles of LGBT people in the modern world, not least that while Navajo culture has always revered members of the ‘third gender’, outside that there are men who think sleeping with her would make them gay, while many other people simply reject her.

It looks like it could be a fascinating movie, so if you want to help out, head over the Kickstarter.

Take a look a the Kickstarter campaign video and an intro from Carmen Moore below. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Jake Gyllenhaal For GQ Australia

October 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jake-gyllenhaal-gq-australia1-slide
To support the release of his latest movie, Prisoner, Jake Gyllenhaal is looking very sexy in the latest issue of GQ Australia, under the lens of photographer Nino Munoz.

He’s also been chatting about working with Hugh Jackman, saying, “I’d heard so many things about him, as we all have, that he’s such a good guy, such a nice bloke, but I had my own skepticism about that. But when I worked with him, the amazing thing about it, annoyingly so, is it’s just very true. He’s a good man. And as an actor, he’s so humble. I mean, given the position he’s in… people say success brings out who somebody really is, and he’s a deeply good man. He’s not performing it.”

Take a look at some of the images below, and head over to GQ Australia for more. [Read more…]

Tom Hardy Confirmed For Elton John Biopic, Rocketman

October 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorBack in May, Tom Hardy was rumoured to be circling the lead in the planned biopic of Elton John, Rocketman. Now ScreenDaily confirms the news, as Focus Features has just picked up the movie and says that Hardy is indeed set to star.

Michael Gracey will direct from a screenplay by Lee Hall. It’s previously been reported that the movie will follow Elton John’s journey from 5-year old musical prodigy who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era. It will also feature some more fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality.

Steve Hamilton Shaw of Elton’s Rocket Pictures comments, “Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton’s story to life,” said Shaw. “We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board, and equally excited to be in the hands of Peter Schlessel and the entire Focus Features team.”

Hardy is certainly an interesting choice, and hopefully it’ll allow him to show off the more playful slightly camp side that’s sometimes on display in interviews, rather than the hard man we normally see on screen.

The film will shoot during autumn 2014.

Michelle Monaghan Seeks The Best Of Me, Based On A Nicholas Sparks Novel

October 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle-MonaghanWith Dear John, The Last Song, The Last One and Safe Haven, Hollywood has certainly liked adapting Nicholas Sparks novels recently, even if the box office returns have been a bit unpredictable. Now another one is coming in the form of The Best Of Me, which THR reports has just found its leading lady in the form of Michelle Monaghan.

The film is about, ‘a pair of former high school sweethearts who reunite after many years when they both return to their small North Carolina hometown.’ They come back for a funeral but find their passions still run deep.

Michael Hoffman (Gambit, The Last Station) is set to direct. Warner Bros was originally set to back the film, but Relativity has since taken over those duties.
