Reese Witherspoon Hopes For Happily Ever After As A Disney Princess

October 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

reese-witherspoonReese Witherspoon wants to be a Disney princess, although of a slightly different type than usual, as THR reports that the House Of Mouse has bought a fairy tale inspired pitch from screenwriter Nahnatchka Khan, (best known for creating the series Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23), with Witherspoon attached to star.

The film, called Happily Ever After, will be a bit of a spin on the usual fairy tale film, as rather than concentrating on the heroine finding her prince, it picks up 10 years later, when the characters realise that just because the traditional tale has ended, it doesn’t necessarily mean trouble-free life and an always perfect relationship. There’s no news on the exact storyline though.

It could be fun if done well, in the same way Enchanted gave fairy tales a bit of a different spin. There’s no info though on whether it’s being planned as a family film or aimed at people who are slightly older.

Harry Potter Helmer David Yates To Direct Who Is Jake Ellis?

October 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-YatesHarry Potter helmer David Yates is busy putting his live-action version of Tarzan together, but he’s already thinking about what he wants to do after that, as THR reports that 20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the comic series Who Is Jake Ellis?, with Yates attached to helm.

The trade says, ‘Described as having elements of Bourne, Memento and Fight Club, the story follows Jon Moore, a former CIA analyst and mercenary spy on the run, protected only by the mysterious title character “Jake Ellis,” a man seemingly invisible to everyone except Jon, but who has a unique knowledge of tradecraft that Jon desperately needs.’

Written by Nathan Edmonson and drawn by Tonci Zonjic, the comic was followed by sequel, Where Is Jake Ellis?. It’s early days for the adaptation though, as no writer are currently attached.

Ryan Phillippe & Breckin Meyer Kiss In Newly Surfaced Deleted Scene From 54

October 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan-Phillippe-Breckin-Meyer-54
When 54 was released in 1998, quite a few people noted that the film felt like it should have been a bit gayer than it actually was, both because of how sexually ambiguous Ryan Phillippe’s character was, as well as how the real Studio 54 was.

Well, it turns out the film was originally intended to be a bit gayer than it ended up, but a kiss between Phillippe and co-star Breckin Meyer got left on the cutting room floor. Now that snog has popped up online, and you can take a look below!

As you can see, it’s not exactly the best quality footage, but it’s Phillippe and Meyer, even if they do look like lo-res Avatar characters.

Dominic Cooper The Latest Actor Linked To Freddie Mercury Role

October 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dominic-CooperIs Dominic Cooper in line to play Freddie Mercury in the planned biopic of the Queen frontman? He’s the latest to be linked to the role, according to Latino Review, is Dominic Cooper.

Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Mercury, but dropped out in August citing disagreements with the surviving members of Queen over the tone of the film. Cohen wanted a gritty tell-all, while the band members wanted a softer, PG-rated tale.

A couple of weeks ago Daniel Radcliffe was linked to the role, but he quickly stepped forward to deny the rumour.

Now it’s Cooper’s turn and as with Radcliffe, it’s difficult to know if there’s substance to this, or is it’s a rumour based purely on the fact Dominic is British and has dark hair. He does look a little more like Mercury than Radcliffe at least. Plus he can sing!

Peter Morgan wrote the script, but there’s no director attached at this time.

Over the last few weeks a slew of Thor: The Dark World posters have emerged, showing off various characters. Now we’ve got two more, featuring Zachary Levi’s Fandral and Ray Stevenson’s Folstagg. They’re certainly looking pretty cool.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film’s out in the UK on October 30th and the US a week later.

american-hustle-character-poster1
American Hustle has certainly got a great cast, and these five character posters are here to show it. And also how the likes of Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are really going for the 70s vibe in the movie.

They’re certainly looking cool.

The movie is based on a true story and follows Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who, along with his lover and accomplice Sydney (Amy Adams), are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help with his ABSCAM conspiracy case in the 1970s. That ended with a US Senator and five Congressmen were convicted on corruption charges. David O. Russell directs.

Vincent D’Onofrio & Rodrigo Santoro Up For Pele Biopic

October 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

vincent-donofrioVincent D’Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, Diego Boneta, Colm Meaney and Seu Jorge are all set to join the cast of Pele, a biopic of the legendary Brazilian soccer player, which will be written and directed by Michael Zimbalist and Jeff Zimbalist.

The film is already shooting in Brazil, telling the miraculous story of Pele’s rise to glory from a young boy to the 17-year-old player who scored the winning goal in Brazil’s first ever World Cup victory in 1958. From a life full of disadvantages and an impoverishment, Pele used his unorthodox yet authentic style of play and his unbeatable spirit to overcome all odds, find greatness and inspire a country that he changed forever.

D’Onofrio will play the Brazilian team’s World Cup coach, Feola, while Diego Boneta will play Jose, Pele’s arch rival and responsible for giving him the nickname when they were children (he was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento). Seu Jorge will be Pele’s father, Dondinho, while newcomer Kevin de Paula will be Pelé from age 13-17, with Leonardo Lima Carvalho will play him at age 10. Meaney is Coach Raynor, the Swedish World Cup coach.

Marc Forster Won’t Direct World War Z Sequel

October 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

world-war-z-teaser-pic7Going into the summer season, if you’d asked many pundits what they thought would be the biggest box office failure, a lot of people would have gone for World War Z ahead of actual disasters such as Lone Ranger. That was due to massive budget overruns and a disastrous shoot, which went so badly that the entire third act needed to be reshot.

In the end it was a pretty big hit, taking $530 million worldwide, but apparently that doesn’t mean director Marc Forster is gonna be back for the planned sequel, as THR reports he’s out. That’s perhaps not surprising considering reports that Forster was overwhelmed by the scale of the production and many of the film’s issues were down to him focussing so much on the art that the business side became chaos. There have also been suggestions that he and Brad Pitt ended up being barely able to communicate.

As for the sequel, which Pitt also produced, he says “We are talking about it. We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas.”

It’s just that they’re compiling them with Forster.

The calendar is available online on October 10th, with proceeds going to AIDS charities. And you better get it while you can as this 8th edition of the calendar will apparently be their last. Enjoy the fun video above, and a few pics from the new calendar below!

New Biopic Of Gay Beatles Manager Brian Epstein Planned, With The Rights To Use The Band’s Songs

October 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brian-episteinWhile a lot of band fund their retirements by leasing out their music to anyone who’ll pay cash to use it, The Beatles have been very careful with which films they’ve allowed to use their music.

While the odd song has popped up and there was the musical Across The Universe, generally it’s been tough to get McCartney, Starr, and the estates of Harrison and Lennon to allow use of the original tunes. And when it comes the film actually about the Beatles, they’ve completely refused – which has caused issues for movies such as Backbeat and Nowhere Boy.

However now a new biopic of the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, is planned, and it’ll be the first film that’s won the right to use the Beatles’ actual music, according to Deadline.

This is the latest of a series of attempts to make a movie about Epstein. In 2009 a movie with a screenplay by Tony Gittelson foundered in 2009, while in April 2012 there were reports that Tom Hanks was producing a film about Epstein with Benedict Cumberbatch attached to star, but we haven’t heard anything about that since.

This new film has a script Tony-winning producer Vivek J. Tiwary (Green Day’s American Idiot, Mel Brooks’ The Producers), based on his own forthcoming graphic novel with art by Andrew C. Robinson and cartoonist Kyle Baker. Tiwary will also produce alongside Oscar-winner Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Milk).

Epstein signed the iconic band back in 1961. He initially had difficulty getting a label to take them, before he managed to launch them to international superstar status. While he’s best remembered for his relationship to the Liverpudlians, he also managed the likes of Cilla Black and Gerry & the Pacemakers.

Epstein was also a closeted homosexual, whose sexuality was completely concealed from the public, although it was an open secret amongst his friends and associates. It’s little surprise it was kept secret, as homosexuality was still illegal in the UK at the time. He’s also said to have had an ‘almost’ love affair with John Lennon, which was never consummated (at least that’s how Lennon put it). Epstein battled addictions with drugs and gambling, and tragically died of an accidental overdose of sleeping pills in 1967, just one month before homosexuality was decriminalised in England and Wales.

The current hope is to start shooting in 2014.
