It’s always a bit odd when you first watch a filmed recording of a stage production. Initially it’s difficult to escape the feeling you’re watching it in the wrong medium. However if done well you quickly forget that what you’re watching was designed for a theatre setting and can just enjoy the show. Thankfully that’s very true of this filmed version of the 20th Anniversary Production of Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing.

It was shot over two nights in May this year at The Arts Theatre in London, and is now available for online viewing & download via Digital Theatre. [Read more…]

New Riddick Trailer – Vin Diesel gets hunted on a desolate planet

August 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A fresh trailer for Riddick which makes the movie look. pretty cool, Vin Diesel and director David Twohy have pulled back on the OTT sci-fi operatics of The Chronicles Of Riddick, going back towards the feeling of the original Pitch Black, although with better special effects.

Here’s the plot synopsis: ‘In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

‘The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.’

It should hit cinemas this autumn. [Read more…]

August 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ve been waiting ages for Machete Kills, but now a new trailer has arrived, preparing us for the film’s October release. It still gives a good feel for the movie, which is definitely sticking to its grindhouse roots.

It’s also keen to show off the cast, which includes Danny Trejo, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Demián Bichir, Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, William Sadler, and Antonio Banderas.

In the movie, Machete is called on by the President to stop a Billionaire (Gibson) who’s planning to launch a missile into space.

All Is Lost Trailer – Robert Redford is lost at sea

August 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Robert Redford doesn’t make that many movies, but it looks like when he does he wants to hog all the screentime, as he’s pretty much the only person is All Is Lost. It also looks like he doesn’t want to learn a lot of lines, as if this trailer is anything to go by, the film isn’t exactly dialogue heavy – there’s just one word spoken in this promo.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man (Redford) wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner’s intuition and a strength that belies his age, the man barely survives the tempest. Using only a sextant and nautical maps to chart his progress, he is forced to rely on ocean currents to carry him into a shipping lane in hopes of hailing a passing vessel. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meager supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face.’

It’s out in the US in October and November 29th in the UK. [Read more…]

Ryan Gosling Shows Off An Impressive Package In A Place Beyond The Pines Deleted Scene

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are many reasons to admire Ryan Gosling, just one of which is his willingness to strip down for a role (for very artistic reasons, of course). Indeed Gosling’s fleshly offerings have had more appreciation – especially his Crazy Stupid Love abs – than pretty much any actor in recent years.

We can’t understand them when on earth they’d have cut Gosling stripping down in The Place Beyond The Pines and showing off, as many on the web have already pointed out, a very impressive bulge.

Now that deleted scene in question has been released via Total Film and you can watch the whole thing above. Alternatively, take a look at the GIF version of the bit that’s gotten people excited below.

The Place Beyond The Pines hits DVD & Blu-ray soon. [Read more…]

Watch A Brooklyn Artist’s 84-Minute Gay ‘First Kiss’ Art Video

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Modern art video pieces tend to get a bad rap, with many seeing them as the pinnacle on pointless, self-indulgent modern art. While that’s a very myopic view of it, I’m sure a lot more gay men would be interested in them if they were all like Brooklyn artist Idan Bitton’s ‘First Kiss’, which he’s now released on Youtube.

It’s simply 84-minutes of Bitton kissing Alfredo Ferran (and I reckon they probably both at chapped lips by the end of that).

However Bitton isn’t impressed that his video was flagged and age-restricted on Youtube, despite the thousands of videos of straight kisses on the site that anyone can watch (we understand his frustration, as we recently discovered one web filtering firm initially classed this site as pornography and still won’t stop classing it as ‘Controversial: Adult Material’).

Bitton told Towleroad, ‘As the video started becoming popular, and surprisingly inspiring to viewers, it got flagged and age restricted on YouTube while other “straight” kissing videos are not. Some of them even have titles such as “How to Kiss Dirty” and such… I wanted to bring this to your attention in the hopes of raising the awareness to this issue…’

As for the piece itself, he says, ‘While the camera is still, the kiss is in motion provoking the viewer to stay and watch. Idan and Alfredo do not interact with the viewer, but offer a peek into their intimate moments of commitment. This long lasting, present and unapologetic kiss defines our current gay rights momentum. We are here, we love each other, and this is what it looks like.’

Take a look above. [Read more…]

Raven Symone Comes Out On Twitter – That’s So Her!

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

raven-symone For a long time there have been rumours about That’s So Raven star Raven Symone’s sexuality, which reached a fever pitch last year when the National Enquirer reported that she was living with a lesbian former America’s Next Top Model contestant.

At the time Raven basically told people to mind their own business, but now she’s confirmed she’s gay, using the fact that same sex marriage has just become legal in Minnesota and Rhode Island (as well as the recent striking down of DOMA) to tweet, ‘I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you’.

Many wondered whether that meant she had imminent plans to put on a wedding ring, but she clarified that to OMG saying, “I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”

Symone first became famous at the age of just three when she played Olivia in The Cosby Show. She also appeared in the Eddie Murphy Dr. Dolittle movies and got a huge number of fans with her Disney Channel series, That’s So Raven.

She also joins the growing band of former child stars who are gay, such as Jodie Foster, Neil Patrick Harris, Chad Allen and Danny Pintauro.

Is A ‘Well Known’ Actor Looking For Coming Out Advice On Reddit?

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

unknown-facePretty much anyone can write anything on Reddit and do so fairly anonymously, so there’s no compelling reason to believe this is true, but a user going by the name mylifeisalie123 is claiming to be a well-known closeted actor who’s thinking about coming out.

Of course there are no details on who it might be, although there’s already been plenty of speculation (which we’re going to be high-minded and not get into). Under the title I’m a well known American film actor and I’m a closeted homosexual he says, ‘I will not reveal who I’ve worked with or what I’ve starred in obviously, as I don’t want to be identified. I love my career, and I know I would lose my leading man status if I ever came out. I feel terribly guilty about many different things.

‘First of all, I feel like I’m misleading my fans. I know a lot of women watch my movies to watch me, and part of that is fantasy, and I feel like it’s all based on a lie. They do a lot market analysis in Hollywood. I get told about which demographics I do well with, and I feel like I’m misleading so many people, or letting them down.

‘I am dating another well known personality, and we’ve been publicly together for a while now. I know she expects to get married, the press expect us to get married, but of course this would be a great disservice to her. Truth be told I think she knows. She is a wonderful woman and a wonderful person and I don’t deserve someone as loving and trusting in my life, and I truly do love her, but I’m not in love with her, and sex with her, despite her beauty, is difficult for me.

‘I also feel terribly guilty because I know there are so many gay kids out there and I feel like by not coming out, and not providing that public display of being gay and being successful I’m letting them down. Public figures like Ellen DeGeneres coming out when I was younger made a huge difference to me, and I feel like I should be paying it forward, but I’m too afraid of my whole life being ruined.

‘I’ve only told a few people. I’ve been with two men since my career has started. Both have been, thankfully, very discrete. My two best friends from before I became mainstream know, and have been supportive. I’ve told two gay actors who have come out because I trusted they would keep it to themselves, having been in the same position. They were comforting and told me to do what I needed to do, but it didn’t assuage my guilt at all. I tested the water with my agent, who basically told me “Faggots don’t make it in this town,” and then went on to basically explain that he would never represent a gay man because the effort versus the money just makes it not worth it to him. It frankly terrifies me. I just wanted to get it out there.’

Responses have ranged from support in coming out to those saying he should stay closeted to preserve his career to those calling bull on the whole thing. However his follow up messages do suggest he genuinely knows how Hollywood works (which is different to how most people think), but it’s still impossible to say if he’s the real deal or just a troll.

If a well known actor does come out fairly soon, there’s no doubt people will be asking him if he is mylifeisalie123.

James Deen Says Kissing A Guy In The Canyons Was No Big Deal As He’s Done It Before

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-deenPorn star James Deen has gone legit with The Canyons, which opened in US cinemas last Friday and sees him starring alongside Lindsay Lohan in a noirish Hollywood tale. It also features him kissing another guy. As he’s known for being a very straight porn actor, the man-on-man lip locking has prompted a lot of questions for journalists.

However Deen isn’t really that impressed with being asked questions about it over and over. When asked by Gawker if it made him uncomfortable, he says, “Not really. I’ve kissed other dudes in my life, so it’s not really a big deal. I have this conversation a lot because there is still a lot of homophobia in the world and in adult films, when you’re sharing a scene with another dude and a lady, sometimes certain things come up: gay this, gay that. The way I define gay or homosexuals is a sexual attraction to a member of the same sex.

“I fully believe that people can engage in any sort of activity. Like I hate basketball, but I’ve played basketball before and it doesn’t make me a professional basketball player. That [gay-sex] scene was a very important part of the movie, because it kind of represents the power switch. I think Bret was really worried I wouldn’t want to do it. It’s part of the script. It’s not like it’s real life. I’m not shooting a porno where I have to get physically erect and have sex with a dude. I think it was kind of a weight off of everyone’s shoulders that I wasn’t going to create an issue with it.”

I wouldn’t expect him to make a move into gay porn anytime soon though.

Cheyenne Jackson Talks About His Divorce From Husband

August 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cheyenne JacksonA couple of days ago it was confirmed that actor Cheyenne Jackson is set to divorce his husband of two years, Monte Lapka. The confirmation came after reports of the split, which were accompanied by suggestions the 38-year-old actor was having some sort of mid-life crisis, signing up for AA, taking a younger lover, growing a handlebar moustache and getting ‘prison tattoos’.

Now Cheyenne has decided to speak out, clearing up a few misconceptions and lashing out at the blogosphere’s tendency to jump to conclusions. Appearing on The Frank DeCaro Show on SiriusXM OutQ radio, Jackson said, “I do have a mustache, but it’s for the new Ira Sachs movie with Alfred Molina and Marissa Tomei and John Lithgow, so that’s what that’s for. I do have a new tattoo, and it’s personal. I’m happy to tell now because it’s out there, but you know, it’s for my dad.

“It’s song lyrics from an old Elvis song that he used to sing to me when I was little, and it was going to be a Christmas present, but I decided to give it to him early. And it was a beautiful, beautiful moment between us and, you know, it’s very special—and for that to be kind of reduced to gossip fodder is obnoxious, and well, you know what, I wasn’t going to go there but I will say that special moment with my dad came from something else that came out [Wednesday] in one of these f**king [reports] is that I’m in AA, and that happens to be true.

“I started my recovery last summer, and it became something I really wanted to focus on in my life, and repairing relationships with my family and such, so this is a really strong, beautiful time for me, personally. It also is a very sad time because I’m going through a divorce, but yeah, I mean, you know, some members of my family didn’t even know I was in Alcoholics Anonymous, so that was pretty f**ked up to actually have people [find out that way].“

He also dealt with the fairly new situations of being a out gay out gay man having to issue a statement about his divorce from another guy. “Yes, it is weird. But it’s a fact,” he said. “And you just have to accept the way things are. Sometimes I think I am a little naïve to think that people even care, but they do. So you have to understand the significance that your relationship had to other people and I know that our marriage meant a lot to a lot of people…so that’s not lost on me, and I respect that…I didn’t want to have to say anything. The royals, the monarchy over in England always say ‘Never complain, never explain.’

“And so I’d love to adhere to that, but the fact of the matter is, I did have to say something.  It was getting a little ugly, and my sister and brother were like ‘What’s up?’ So, it is kind of weird to have to make a statement about it….and Monte [Lapka] and I talked about it and decided what we wanted the statement to say…and it was nobody else’s business….yes, it is weird, but it is a fact.” (Quotes via Towleroad)

Jeremy Renner Is Coming Back For Another Bourne, With Anthony Peckham Writing

August 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-renner-the-bourne-legacy
After The Bourne Legacy barely broke $110 million at the US box office – despite costing $125 million to make – many thought that was the end of Jeremy Renner in the franchise. However it did make nearly $300 million worldwide, and while it’s taken them a while to decide what to do next, Deadline reports that Universal has hired Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to write the next instalment, with Renner coming back to star.

There’s no news on a director. Tony Gilroy helmed Legacy, but as he also worked on the scripts for all the previous Bourne movies, so the fact he’s not onboard to write this one suggests he may not be back.

There’s no news on where the plot might go, but Universal is apparently keen to build the story of Renner’s Aaron Cross, an agent whose story ran parallel to that of Jason Bourne in the last film, when his former bosses tried to have him and the other chemically enhanced operatives killed due to the problem Jason was causing.

Some are suggested that the delay in commissioning a fifth Bourne film is due to Universal trying to woo Damon back, but as he’s not ready to return yet (he’s previously suggested he’ll only return if Paul Greegrass helms and wasn’t sure where Jason’s story would go now he’s got his memory back), they’re no moving forward with another Renner based movie.

Is Miles Teller Up To Play Reed Richards In Fantastic Four?

August 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Miles-TellerFor quite a while now Fox has been planning to reboot the Fantastic Four with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank at the helm. However it’s only now that they’re starting to think about casting, and if TheWrap is to be believed, Miles Teller is one of the actors in-contention for the role of Mr. Fantastic, aka Reed Richards.

Previous rumours have suggested Michael B. Jordan is being considered for Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, and Girls’ Allison Williams may end up as Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman. However there’s been no confirmation on any of these names.

While 26-year-old Footloose and 21 & Over actor Miles Teller may seem young compared to many people’s idea of Reed Richards as a slightly older man, in the comics he was indeed in his mid-20s when he, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm went on a scientific mission into space that resulted in their ship getting hit by cosmic rays and each of them gaining superpowers.

At the moment it’s difficult to know whether any of these actors will end up in the movie. Indeed it’s not even clear when the movie might shoot, but it does seem we might find out who the main cast will be soon.
