Daddyhunt: Season 2, Part 1 – Intergenerational gay love isn’t always easy in returning web series

April 24, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of day ago we posted the trailer for the second season of Daddyhunt, which teased the return of  BJ Gruber and Jim Newman’s cute couple. As the title suggests, it’s a bit of a May/December romance, brought to us courtesy of the Daddyhunt app, which caters for younger guys looking for older and vice versa.

While the first season of Daddyhunt concentrated on the couple meeting and potentially getting together, Season 2 looks at some of the issues that intergenerational love can encounter. You can watch the first part of the new season of the show below.

And just in case you’re interested, Daddyhunt itself was launched by Christopher Turner, who later became the husband of acclaimed gay author Armistead Maupin. It doesn’t appear he’s involved anymore, but it seems the app/dating site is still interested in the world of gay-themed stories. [Read more…]

Daddyhunt: Season 2 Teaser – The Intergenerational gay love web series is returning

April 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although plenty of gay apps and websites have featured in web series (indeed, Grindr is almost ubiquitous), one app has gone a step further and produced its own. Early in 2016 social networking/dating site Daddyhunt released its own show, which was – unsurprisingly – about a young man hunting for his very own ‘daddy’.

Now it’s coming back for Season 2, and to get us ready a teaser has been released. The follow-up will follow the further adventures of the intergenerational couple, played by BJ Gruber and Jim Newman. Although the teaser suggests things will be a bit sexy, we’re presuming that as in Season 1, true love won’t completely be running smooth for the duo.

Take a look at the trailer below. Season 2 should be released on April 24th. [Read more…]

Marvel Quashes Rumours Of Black Panther Lesbian Subplot

April 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Florence Kasumba (far left) as Ayo in Captain America: Civil War

Florence Kasumba (far left) as Ayo in Captain America: Civil War

Last week we reported on news that an early screening on scenes from Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther had suggested there might be a couple of LGBT characters in the movie. However, after the likes of Vanity Fair praised this seeming step forward for the Comic Book Universe, Marvel has stepped forward to say it’s not happening.

The scene involves a flirtatious exchange between Danai Gurira’s Okuye and Florence Kasumba Ayo, who in the comics serve as the ceremonial guard of Black Panther, and help protect the Wakandan royal family. In the 2016 comic World of Wakanda by Ta-Nehisi Coates, the two women are a couple, leading many to believe the scene shown meant this would be followed through in the movie.

However, a Marvel spokesperson has now stepped forward to say, via Yahoo!, to say ‘the nature of the relationship between Danai Gurira’s Okoye and Florence Kasumba’s Ayo in Black Panther is not a romantic one and that specific love storyline from the comic World of Wakanda was not used as a source’.

Understandably that statement has caused a bit of a backlash on social media. Marvel has already been roundly criticised for not including any openly LGBT characters in its movies. Although the studio, including head honcho Kevin Feige, has suggested that it will probably happen one day, they’ve said it would have to be organic to the story. With Black Panther, it appears they’ve taken two characters who are canonically LGBT and decided just to ignore that side of them. It does seem like a major missed opportunity.

New The Beguiled Trailer – Nicole Kidman & Colin Farrell star in Sofia Coppola’s latest

April 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Following Marie Antoinette, Kirsten Dunst and director Sofia Coppola are getting back into period drama territory with The Beguiled. And they’re bringing the likes of Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Elle Fanning and Angourie Rice along with them. The movie is The Beguiled, based on Thomas P. Cullinan’s novel A Painted Devil, which was previously turned into a 1971 movie starring Clint Eastwood.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Beguiled is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.’

The results is a very complicated love quadrangle as the headmistress, a teacher and a student all develop a relationship with the guest.

The Beguiled is due out in cinemas in June. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Callum Turner Will Be Eddie Redmayne’s Brother In Fantastic Beasts 2

April 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like we’re going to meet some of Newt Scamander’s relatives in the second Fantastic Beasts movie, as Variety reports that Callum Turner (Green Room, War & Peace), will play Newt’s brother.

No info about his role in the plot has been released, although it’s been suggested the character will be called Theseus Scamander, so perhaps there will be some echoes of the Greek hero who fought the minotaur. As well as Newt and his brother, the film will follow a troubled young Dumbledore, with the planned next four movies charting how he ended up in a climactic battle with Johnny Depp’s evil Grindelwald.

David Yates will one more direct the Paris-set sequel, which is due to start shooting this summer, for release at the end of 2018.

There are also plenty out there interested in whether Dumbledore will be shown as gay in the movies, and whether that involved a relationship with Grindelwald.

Margot Robbie Will Be Queen Elizabeth In Mary Queen of Scots

April 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Margot Robbie is planning to get into a bit of historical drama, as Variety reports she’s signed up to play Queen Elizabeth in Mary Queen Of Scots. Saoirse Ronan is already onboard to play the title role, with Josie Rourke directing.

As the title suggests, the movie with follow the Catholic Mary, who certainly led a dramatic life, with her first husband murdered and then marrying the murder accused of killing him. She was then forced to abdicate and fled to England. However, as Mary had previously claimed Elizabeth’s throne, she was captured and locked up. She was kept hidden away in various manors for over 18 years, becoming an increasing problem, especially as many English Catholics viewed her as the legitimate queen. Eventually she was implicated in a plot to overthrow Elizabeth and executed.

Beau Willimon (House Of Cards) wrote the script. The movie has yet to be greenlit, but assuming it is, it will shoot later this year.

Lost In London Trailer – Take a look A Woody Harrelson’s live movie

April 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There have been feature-films shot in one take before, but early this year Woody Harrelson decided to take this one step further. Not content with making a film with one camera in a single unbroken take, he decided it should be transmitted live to cinemas at the same time.

That meant that only a limited amount of people got to see it at the time, but now it’s heading for a wider release, so everyone can take a look at at Lost In London. The movie got pretty good reviews on its live debut, and the new trailer certainly makes it look fun.

In the film Woody plays a fictionalised version of himself, as he makes his way across London as he becomes the subject of a tabloid scandal and discovers that even his fame can’t help him. The likes of Owen Wilson and even Willie Nelson co-star.

The movie will be in certain cinemas in the UK from late April, with a screening plus Q&A with Harrelson on April 30th. You can fin out more at Picturehouses.co.uk.  [Read more…]

Will Smith May Be The Genie In Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin

April 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Recently Will Smith turned down the opportunity to take a major role in Tim Burton’s live-action take on Dumbo. However, it turns out that might have been because he had a different Disney role in mind, as he’s in talks to voice the Genie in the studio’s planned live-action version of Aladdin, according to Deadline.

He’s very early in talks at the moment, so he may end up walking away from the role, as he did with Dumbo, but at the moment he’s the one in the frame. If he does take the role, he’ll have big shoes to fill, as Robin Williams take on the the lamp-living Genie is one of the greatest Disney characters. Although Smith can be good a larger-than-life comedy characters, it’s still a major challenge.

John August is on screenplay duties, with Guy Ritchie set to direct. At the moment, no one has been announced for the title role, although it has been said that after numerous controversy over white-washing in movies in recent years, that Disney is looking a lead actors who have Arabian heritage. We’ll have to wait and see who they choose.
