catching-fire-finnick-portrait
Over the last few days, Lionsgate has been releasing a slew of Capitol Fashion Portraits of various characters, ranging from Katniss to newcomers like Johanna Mason (Jena Malone). Now it’s the turn of the main men, with pics for Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), and newbie Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin).

Finnick is a former champion, known for being cocky, arrogant and a favourite of the ladies of the Capitol. While Katniss initially takes a disliking to him, she come to realise there’s more under the surface than his public image suggests.

One thing we’ve been wondering is why Gale got a portrait? After all, while all the other pics are either Capitol residents or former champions, Gale’s never been out of District 12 (well, he’s been into the woods nearby, but that doesn’t really count.

The film is out November 22nd.

Sam Claflin & Lily Collins Will Love Rosie

Sam Claflin
Last year Sam Claflin appeared in Snow White And The Huntman, while Lily Collins was in rival fairy tale movie Mirror Mirror. However working on competing Snow White tales hasn’t made them enemies as Deadline reports that they’re teaming up for the romantic comedy, Love Rosie.

The film is based on a novel by Cecila Aherne (P.S. I Love You), which has been known as Where Rainbows End, Rosie Dunne, or Love, Rosie. Collins and Claflin will be Rosie and Alex, two Irish best friends who plan to move to the US together for college. However, Rosie gets pregnant after a wild fling with a popular schoolmate, which leads to the duo taking very different paths. They never lose touch thanks to lively e-mails, notes and letters.

Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls) is on screenplay duty, with German director Christian Ditter set to make his English-language debut with the movie. Shooting will start in May.

Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne & More Up For Harry Osborn In Amazing Spider-man 2

Sam Claflin

Last week it was revealed that producers were busy looking for someone to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-man 2, and that Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Brady Corbet (Melancholia), and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) were all said to be audition.

Now THR has come news names to add, saying that Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman), Eddie Redmayne (War Horse), Douglas Booth (Noah), and Boyd Holbrook (Hatfields & McCoys) are all trying out for the part. It appears the studio is uncertain whether Osborn should be ‘dark and edgy’ or more athletic. The first list of actors was an attempt to find the former, while these latest name are a look at the latter. It’ll be interesting to see which way they go, as it could alter Osborn’s role in how the trilogy develops depending on which direction they go. The part should be cast soon.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will both be back, with Shailene Woodley joining as Mary Jane Watson. Shooting is likely to start next February for release summer 2014.

Sam Claflin Gets Shirtless On The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Set

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has started shooting in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and Celebuzz has gotten hold of some intriguing shots from the set, showing Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) with his shirt off. The pics may be long-lens and a little blurry, but he’s still hot.

Claflin is playing the dashing Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, the hotshot Hunger Games winner who’s seen as charming, handsome, witty and the darling of all the women in The Capitol. While Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) takes a dislike to him, he reveals hidden depth as the story continues through the third book, Mockingjay.

Sam Claflin & Emilia Clarke Go Into Overdrive

It certainly seems to be Sam Claflin’s day, as we reported earlier that he’s landed the key role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and now there’s news that he and Emilia Clarke have signed up for the thriller Overdrive.

News of the project first surfaced back in October, when Karl Urban and Ben Barnes signed on as two car thief brothers, who move to the south of France to find more challenging work. Variety doesn’t say which character Sam Claflin will play, but the report doesn’t mention Ben Barnes, so it’s possible Claflin has taken over that role. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is playing the female lead.

Antonio Negret (Transit) is directing from a screenplay by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, with Taken director Pierre Morel producing.

Catching Fire May Get Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, Plus More Hunger Games News

There’s been quite a bit of Hunger Games news in the last 24 hours, starting off with the news, via Variety, that casting for the coveted role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has come to an end, with Pirate 4 and Snow White & The Hunstman’s Sam Claflin chosen for the role.

Melissa Leo and Tony Shalhoub have also been mentioned as front runners to play fellow Hunger Games winners Mags and Beetee. Lionsgate hasn’t confirmed any of these, but they have said Amanda Plummer will play Wiress.

Back in May, it was rumoured that Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garrett Hedlund were the front runners for Finnick, although it seems now that Sam Claflin has won the role. Odair is the District 4 tribute who won the 65th Annual Hunger Games, and returns to the battlefield for the Quarter Quell, where past Hunger Games victors battle each other.

Mags was Finnick’s mentor when he first won The Hunger Games at the age of 14, one of the youngest winners in Panem history. She volunteers to join the Quarter Quell in the place of Finnick’s lover, Annie Cresta. Beetee is an inventor nicknamed Bolts by Johanna Mason (Jena Malone), due to his electrifying weapons. Wiress meanwhile is from District 3. She’s a smart but odd woman who has a hard time communicating her ideas to the other tributes.

Lionsgate is also looking ahead to who will direct the final two Hunger Games movies, based on Mockingjay, as Francis Lawrence, who is making Catching Fire, apparently won’t be back. There’s no news on who it might be, but Anne Thompson says “Summit’s Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, producers Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins are currently vetting the right directors” for the final two films.

Sam Claflin Joins Jared Harris In The Quiet Ones

On Stranger Tides wasn’t quite the star making turn that hottie Sam Claflin must have been hoping for, but it certainly raised his profile and he’s got another chance to really make an impact next month in Snow White and the Huntsman. Now it’s been announced that Claflin has signed on to star opposite Jared Harris in Hammer Film’s The Quiet Ones.

Claflin will play Bryan McNeil in the supernatural thriller/horror, which will be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2: Terminal) from and original screenplay by Tom de Ville, with revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently John Pogue. The movie will start shooting in June 2012 in the UK.

Inspired by true events (hmm, yeah right), The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox, but charismatic Professor (Harris) who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.

The Quiet Ones marks Hammer’s next production after the worldwide box office hit, The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, which has taken over $130 million at the box-office worldwide to date.

Joel Kinnaman Gets The Lead In Arthur & Lancelot

The TV show The Killing seems to be a breeding ground for stars, with Mireille Enos is the upcoming Gangster Squad and World War Z, and now THR reports her Swedish co-star Joel Kinnaman landing one of the main leads in Warner Bros’ Arthur & Lancelot.

The film will be based on David Dobkin’s spec screenplay (he’ll also direct), which as the name suggests is a reimagining of the King Arthur and Sir Lancelot stories. It’s likely we’ll see a friends become enemies tale with them falling out over Guinevere.

Casting is still ongoing for the King Arthur role, with actors such as Kit Harington, Sam Claflin, Dominic Cooper, Hans Matheson, Jim Sturgess, Benjamin Walker, and Liam Hemsworth all in contention. It isn’t certain when the $90 million movie will shoot, but it’s already got a March 2013 release date set.
