New Geostorm Trailer – Can Gerard Butler save the world from every natural disaster?

July 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rather than taking a particular kind of disaster and sticking with it, Geostorm is taking a leaf out of the 2012 playbook and throwing them all at the screen. And there’s only Gerard Butler to help us!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong—the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything…and everyone along with it.

‘Dean Devlin (writer/producer, “Independence Day”) makes his feature film directorial debut with suspense thriller “Geostorm,” starring Gerard Butler (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “300”), Jim Sturgess (“Cloud Atlas”), Abbie Cornish (“Limitless”), Alexandra Maria Lara (“Rush”), Daniel Wu (“The Man with the Iron Fists,” “Warcraft: The Beginning”), Eugenio Derbez (“How to Be a Latin Lover”), with Oscar nominees Ed Harris (“The Hours,” “Apollo 13”) and Andy Garcia (“The Godfather: Part III”).

‘Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program’s malfunction. Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; Derbez as space station crew member Hernandez; with Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (upcoming “Deadpool 2,” TV’s “Atlanta”), Adepero Oduye (“The Big Short,” “12 Years a Slave”), Amr Waked (“Lucy,” “Syriana”), and Robert Sheehan (“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” “Season of the Witch”).

‘The film, written by Dean Devlin & Paul Guyot, is being produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Devlin, and Skydance’s Dana Goldberg. Herbert W. Gains, Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Skydance’s Don Granger are the executive producers. Rachel Olschan of Electric Entertainment and Cliff Lanning co-produce.’

The film is due out in the UK on October 20th. [Read more…]

Geostorm Trailer – Gerard Butler takes on the ultimate in extreme weather

March 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For many years, Dean Devlin has a master of disaster, producing the likes of Independence Day and 1998’s Godzilla. However, it’s only now that he’s stepping into the director’s chair, and he’s certainly hoping to destroy a lot of the world in the process.

Abbie Cornish & Jim Sturgess Up For Geostorm

August 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jim-SturgessBack in April Gerard Butler signed up to get his disaster movie on in Geostorm. Now the cast is growing, as THR reports that Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia are in talks to join the movie.

Butler is set to play a satellite engineer who realises the world’s climate-control satellites are malfunctioning. He has to team up with his estranged brother (Sturgess) to stop a man-made storm from destroying the Earth.

Butler head into space to fix the satellites (because satellites can cause storms, not just monitor them, right?), while his brother discovers a plot to assassinate the President of the United States (Andy Garcia), which presumably is linked to the storm. Cornish will be a Secret Service agent and Sturgess’ girlfriend, while Ed Harris will be the Secretary of State.

Independence Day producer Dean Devlin is set to direct Geostorm. He also wrote the original script, which is now being worked on by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney. A March 25th, 2016 release date has already been set.

RoboCop (2014) (DVD Review)

June 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley
Director: Jose Padilha
Running Time: 117 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: June 9th 2014 (UK)

Unlike some movies, there was no real reason not to remake Robocop. Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original is a great movie, but it leaves plenty of room for reinvention in the 21st Century. Indeed it’s probably why when MGM started digging around in their back catalogue for film to do-over, RoboCop was near the top of the list.

Although it took several years to actually get it done, the results are now here with Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) directing and Joel Kinnaman in the title role. [Read more…]

New RoboCop Trailer Arrives – Joel Kinnaman gets into the suit

November 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The jury is still out on the remake of Robocop, as while the trailers have looked okay, there’s been little that’s suggested it will be great, while the fact it was delayed from summer 2013 to the graveyard of February 2014 is worrying. Now a new trailer has arrived.

Jose Padilha has said of the film, “In the future with autonomous robots you can have a robot in the middle of the desert going after terrorists and you don’t even know the robot is there and the robot is making its own decisions. And let’s say this robot kills a kid, who is to blame? Is it the company that made the robot, is it the army that deployed the robot, the software handler or the manufacturer? Who is to blame? When you start making machines who make decisions over life and death, something fundamental changes…”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.’ [Read more…]

Abbie Cornish Finds Solace Alongside Colin Farrell & Anthony Hopkins

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

abbie-cornishAbbie Cornish obviously enjoyed working with Colin Farrell on Seven Psychopaths, as she’s now in talks to reteam the actor on the thriller Solace for director Afonso Poyart, according to Variety.

The movie is about an FBI agent (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who enlists the help of a renowned psychic (Anthony Hopkins) to help catch a vicious serial killer (Colin Farrell). No details were given for Abbie Cornish’s character at this time, although it’s described as being the female lead.

Afonso Poyart is directing from a screenplay by Sean Bailey (Tron: Legacy), Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven), James Vanderbilt (White House Down), and Peter Morgan (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). After several delays, filming is set to get under way next month.

RoboCop Gets Abbie Cornish

June 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Limitless and Sucker Punch star Abbie Cornish is in early talks to join the cast of RoboCop for MGM Studios and director José Padilha, playing the wife of the title character.

In the film Detroit cop Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is left for dead after being shot on duty. He is turned into the half-man, half-robot crime-fighting machine RoboCop, who goes on a quest to clean up the city’s mean streets.

Cornish will play Murphy’s wife, who thinks her husband is still dead, unaware of his cyborg resurrection, although presumably she’ll find out the truth at some point! She joins a cast that also includes Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson.

José Padilha is directing from a screenplay by Joshua Zetumer. Production is scheduled to begin later this summer in Toronto.
