Ben Affleck Goes For A Gone Girl Post-Mortem In A David Fincher Ahot EW Cover

January 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gone-girl-ew-cover
Those who know  Gillian Flynn’s book, Gone Girl, will be wondering exactly what’s going on in this new EW cover image, featuring Ben Affleck cradling Rosamund Pike who’s on the slab. The image was taken by director David Fincher especially for the magazine.

The film is about Nick and Amy Dunne (Affleck and Pike), two former magazine writers who leave their New York City life behind and move to the Midwest on America. Things go badly wrong when Amy disappears on the couple’s fifth anniversary. As new details emerge, Nick is considered the prime suspect in her murder, even though no body has been found.

When asked about why he seems to go for unconventional characters, David Fincher commented, “I don’t know what ‘likable’ is. I know people who are doting parents, who give to charity, drive Priuses, all those things, who are insufferable a- -holes. I like people who get s - - - done.”

However as the cover image suggests, Fincher hints that those who know the novel may be surprised by the movie’s twists, saying that the biggest lesson he learned from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was, “We may have been too beholden to the source material.”

Novelist/screenwriter Gillian Flynn was happy to chance a few things, saying, “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie.”

Ben Affleck Isn’t Happy In The First Pic From David Fincher’s Gone Girl

December 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gone-girl-pic1
A new David Fincher movie is always something to keep an eye on, and now we get our first glimpse at his upcoming Gone Girl, as tweeted by 20th Century Fox, with Ben Affleck standing in front of a poster of Rosamund Pike. It’s not the most revealing image, unless you’ve read Gillian Flynn’s novel, which the movie is based on.

Affleck plays a husband whose wife (Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance, with the signs of a struggle making many assume he has killed her, especially when reasons emerge as to why he might have wanted her out of they. However, as we learn more about the couple’s relationship, things become much more complex than they first appear.

The film is due out autumn 2014.

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gal-GadotThere have been many rumours that it won’t just be Batman and Superman in the follow-up to Man Of Steel, and that’s now been confirmed as Warner Bros. has announces that Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot has taken the role of Wonder Woman in the movie, which is tentatively titled Batman Vs. Director Zack Snyder commented, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal Gadot an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal Gadot in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Batman Vs. Superman will feature the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, facing off against Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. It’s out summer 2015.

Ben Affleck’s Batman Will Be Tired and Weary In Man Of Steel 2

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckWarner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is having a busy time. Yesterday he helped announce an extension of the Harry Potter franchise, and now he’s been speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference. During the speech, he got around to talking about Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight in Man of Steel 2.

It certainly seems like they won’t be going over the character’s origins yet again, with Tsujihara saying,”[He will be] tired and weary and seasoned and [he’s] been doing it for awhile.

He also addres the casting of Ben Affleck, which caused a lot of controversy on the Internet when it was announced last month,”[He is] perfect. We think it’s going to be huge. [The studio] could not be happier. We think it’s the perfect springboard for Batman and Superman”

Kevin Tsujihara added that a lot of announcements are expected to come out of the DC Comics’ unit at Warner Bros soon, suggesting they’re finally trying to properly rival Marvel’s success on the big screen.

Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Fugit & More On For David Fincher’s Gone Girl

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harrisDavid Fincher’s is gearing up to shoot his adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel Gone Girl, and he’s busy filling out the cast, with Deadline reporting that Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon are all set to join the movie.

The film is about the husband (Ben Affleck) of a woman (Rosamund Pike) who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance. Initially the wife seems like a pretty average person, but things change as we learn more about her and her husband’s relationship.

It’ll be interesting to see how the film works, as the novel alternates between the husband after the disappearance and the wife’s diary of their crumbling marriage. Presumably this idea will be folded into the movie somehow.

Neil Patrick Harris is near a deal to play Desi Collins, the wife’s former boyfriend, whose creepy behaviour when they when together makes him a suspect. Tyler Perry will be Tanner Bolt, the attorney who ends up representing Affleck’s character. Dickens and Fugit will play the lead detectives who investigate the case, while Coon will play Affleck’s character’s twin sister, Go.

The movie shoots this autumn, with a release towards the end of next year expected.

Ben Affleck’s Batman May Get A Love Interest For Man Of Steel 2

September 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-superman-comic-con-logoEver since it was officially announced Superman and Batman would team up (or at least share screen time) in the follow-up to Man Of Steel, there have been endless rumours flying around. Now there’s another one, this time from Latino Review, which suggests Zack Snyder is on the love interest for Batman in the movie.

A casting breakdown has apparently been circulated to talent agencies, which says, ‘They’re looking for someone in their late 20s and are open to all ethnicities…. They’re being very specific and looking for an actress who is both tall and possesses physicality.’

As with always in Hollywood, a guy in his 40s is getting a much younger love interest (it would be nice if Tinsel Town could at least pretend they cared about sexism). There’s no news on who the character will be, such as whether it’ll somebody like Vicky Vale, or a brand new character.

The film is due out in 2015.

Ben Affleck Will Don Batman’s Cowl In Man Of Steel 2

August 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckIn a move that’s surprised many, it’s been revealed that Ben Affleck has signed up to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the as yet untitled, Man Of Steel 2. This will be an entirely new incarnation of the character rather than following on from the Christopher Nolan films and will bring Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen

Ben Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Director Zack Snyder commented,”Ben Affleck provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry Cavill’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award Best Picture winning Argo, which he also directed and produced. However he hasn’t had a huge amount of luck in big, tentpole movies such as The Sum Of All Fears and his last superhero adventure, Daredevil. However he’s been okay when part of an ensemble, such as in Armageddon, so perhaps he’ll be alright here.

There are already many wondering if he’s the right choice for Batman, but that’s probably how it should be, as from Michael Keaton onward there’s been a history of fans wondering whether someone was right for the role.

Man Of Steel 2 is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Filming is expected to begin in 2014, with a July 17, 2015 release date already set.

David Fincher Eyes Rosamund Pike To Star Opposite Ben Affleck In Gone Girl

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rosamund-pikeA week or so ago we reported that Ben Affleck was circling the lead role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. Now he may have some company, as THR reports that Rosamund Pike is the director’s top choice for the female lead.

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, following the husband (Affleck) of a woman who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance. Pike is up to play the wife, who initially seems like a pretty average person, but things change as we learn more about her and her husband’s relationship.

Emily Blunt, Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron were apparently also in the running for the role, but at the moment Jack Reacher star Pike is the frontrunner.

Things are still coming together for Gone Girl, with the major sticking point at the moment being the budget. Fincher’s very particular style doesn’t tend to be cheap to achieve, so 20th Century Fox and New Regency are trying to find a budget where they can get a Fincher movie, but not giving him completely free reign to spend the Earth on the film. Hopefully it’ll all work out though.

Ben Affleck Offered The Lead In David Fincher’s Gone Girl

July 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckThere have been quite a few reports recently about Ben Affleck deciding what to direct next, but he may have to fit his plans for behind the camera around what he’s doing in front, as he’s now circling the male lead in the upcoming David Fincher thriller Gone Girl, according to Deadline.

It appears he’s been offered the role, but it isn’t clear whether negotiations are under way yet. If he does sign on, Affleck will make Gone Girl before moving on to starring in and directing Live by Night.

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, following the husband (Affleck) of a woman who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance. The wife is yet to be cast.

David Fincher is directing from an adapted screenplay that Gillian Flynn wrote herself.
