Anna Karenina’s Joe Wright To Helm Peter Pan Origin Story

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joe-wrightWith Hollywood in love with fairytales at the moment, there’s been a lot of interest in creating a live-action version of Peter Pan, although none of them will directly takes on the stories JM Barrie himself created stories. Now Joe Wright (Atonement, Anna Karenina) has been hired to direct a currently untitled Peter Pan origin project which is set up at Warner Bros.

No plot details have been released but Ice Age: Continental Drift writer Jason Fuchs has signed on to write the script. That said, it’ll be interesting to see whether THR’s comment that Warner wants to ‘give Pan the Batman Begins treatment’ is indicative of the tone of the planned movie or not.

Disney is also development a prequel, based on the recently released ‘official’ book, Peter and the Starcatchers. Gary Ross will direct that one directing. Sony also has a similar project in the works, which Channing Tatum is helping develop.

There’s no indication at the moment as to which of these films will go into production first.

Submarine’s Craig Roberts Signs On For 22 Jump Street

October 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

craig-robertsCraig Roberts made quite an impression in Submarine, and while he’s made some British TV and film since, now he’s going Hollywood, as THR reports that he’s bagged a role in 22 Jump Street, the sequel to the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill hit.

Hill and Michael Bacall have written the script, which picks up where the first movie left off and finds partners Jenko (Tatum) and Schmidt (Hill) undercover at a local university. However, the partners get separated, with Jenko joining the football team and the Schmidt finding himself in amongst the art majors.

It’s not known exactly who Roberts will play, but he’s a bit of a latecomer to the cast, as the movie’s already been shooting for a week. The film’s due out next summer.

Will Channing Tatum Star In A Gay Rom-Com From Bridesmaids Director Paul Feig?

October 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatum-vanity-fair2-thumb
This is one of those comments a director makes that may be getting taken out of context and turned into something that sounds far more likely to happen than is actually is, but Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig has suggested he’s planning to make a gay romantic comedy with Channing Tatum and SNL’s John Milhiser set to star.

Milhiser will play a normal guy who starts dating someone who’s as crazily hot as Tatum. That might sound great, but the average Joe finds is hard to cope. The movie was apparently originally written for a heterosexual couple, with Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm attached to star at one point, however things have since changed.

Before you get too full-on excited about Tatum finally getting gay, Cinema Blend, who broke the story not that the actor’s reps have ’emphasized that Feig’s enthusiasm does not mean anything is actually happening yet’. So at the moment it’s just a possibility.

It would be great to see a mainstream project with well known names involved, where the characters just happened to be gay, rather than it having to be one of the main points of the movie. After all, why not?

At the moment though we’ll have to wait and see if it becomes a reality.

Steve Carell, Channing Tatum & Mark Ruffalo Feature In New Foxcatcher Pics

Who’s got short shorts? Well, from the evidence of these photos, Channing Tatum does, and he’s also going forehead-to-forehead with Mark Ruffalo in these new pics from Foxcatcher. And that’s not even to mention Steven Carell’s magnificent fake nose!

The drama is based on the true tale of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), who was murdered by his paranoid schizophrenic friend Jon Du Pont (Steve Carell) in 1996. Du Pont was an heir to the Du Pont chemical company, who teamed up with Dave’s brother Mark (Tatum) to build a wrestling training facility known as ‘Team Foxcatcher’ on his sprawling Pennsylvania estate. The Schultzes tried to get Du Pont help for years before the murder. Sienna Miller plays Nancy, Doug Schultz’s wife,

Bennett Miller directs from a screenplay by Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye. It’s out in the US on December 20th, with a mid-January UK date set.

First Look At Steve Carell (& His Prosthetic Nose) In Foxcatcher

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

foxcatcher-pic1
Foxcatcher has been in the works for a long time, and even when they had a cast including Steve Carell and Channing Tatum lined up they had to wait ages to shoot until the funding came together. Now it’s in the can and on its way to US cinemas later this year.

EW has debuted the first picture from the film which, as you can see, features Steve Carell sporting a prosthetic honker.

Side Effects (DVD)

July 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 105 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 19th 2013

I don’t think they did the early marketing of Side Effects very well, particularly in the US, as it was presented as if this was in the vein of Steven Soderbergh’s ensemble tales like Traffic and Contagion, but this time taking on the pharmaceutical industry. However it isn’t anything really like them – although it rather deliberately starts out like them and retains a streak of questioning our love of prescription drugs – as this is really a full-on twisty, turny thriller designed to keep you guessing as to what’s really going on. Magic Mike Musical Moves Towards The Broadway Stage

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

magic-mike-heat-slide
Magic Mike surprised many last year when it grossed over $100 million in the US on a $7 million budget. It also managed to catch the zeitgeist, which immediately started people thinking about what they might able to do with Mike’s Magic. That included planning a sequel (that Channing Tatum may direct) and there was also vague talk about a stage musical.

Now Deadline reports that musical project is moving towards the Broadway stage. Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey have been hired to write the songs, while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will come up with the book. Kitt and Yorkey previously created the Tony and Pulitzer-winning Next To Normal, while Aguirre-Sacasa helped with the books for Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark and the upcoming American Psycho musical, and has worked on the screenplays for the remake of Carrie, as well as a planned do-over of Little Shop Of Horrors.

There’s no news on exactly when it might hit the stage, but the project is said to be on the fast-track.

It’s certainly good news for Channing Tatum’s bank balance. He was recently revealed to be the second highest-earning actor of 2012 – taking home $60 million – largely because he and Steven Soderbergh put up the budget for Magic Mike themselves, ensuring they got a large chunk of the take. He could make a hell of a lot more from a Broadway hit!

And quite frankly, if guys are gonna strip on stage and we get to pretend it’s a proper musical so I don’t have to feel too sleazy – where can I get my tickets?

(I Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum – Jimmy Kimmel offers up a star-studded parody

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jimmy Kimmel Live is renowned for its parodies full of stars, and their latest is all about wanting to Channing all over your Tatum. I’ll leave it up to you imagination as to exactly what that means, but I’ve pretty sure it’s dirty – and the number of things spurting in this video suggests I’m right.

The vid features Jimmy Kimmetl, Jamie Foxx, Kimmel, Olivia Munn, Gabourey Sidibe, Miley Cyrus and, of course, Channing Tatum himself, who obviously hasn’t decided being a new father should prevent him from being sexy!

Oh, and this being Jimmy Kimmel Live, watch out for a brief appearance by Matt Damon. [Read more…]

Director Jon M. Chu Back for G.I. Joe 3

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-m-chuMany were surprised when Paramount put a second GI Joe movie into production, but after GI Joe: Retaliation grossed $365 million around the world, it’s not too surprising the studio now wants a third movie.

Deadline reports that Paramount has hired Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu to direct G.I. Joe 3, which is in the early stages of development.

It is early days yet, and it isn’t clear who will be writing the movie. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote Retaliation, but it is not known if they are likely to return. No cast members have been locked in yet, but, given the success of G.I. Joe Retaliation, don’t be surprised if Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and the rest of the Joes sign up for another mission.

Jon M. Chu is also attached to Masters of the Universe at Universal, but that film is still trapped in development.
