Dark Skies Trailer – Paranormal Activity’s Jason Blum goes extra-terrestrial

November 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason Blum has single-handedly cornered the market in micro-budget, mainstream horror, thanks to his Blumhouse Production Company producing the likes of Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister. One of the movies he’s got incoming is Dark Skies, which takes the family in peril template and gives things an extra-terrestrial spin.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From the producers of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and Sinister comes Dark Skies: a supernatural thriller that follows a young family living in the suburbs. As husband and wife Daniel and Lacey Barret witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, their safe and peaceful home quickly unravels. When it becomes clear that the Barret family is being targeted by an unimaginably terrifying and deadly force, Daniel and Lacey take matters in their own hands to solve the mystery of what is after their family.’

The film comes from Scott Stewart, who promised much but delivered far less with Legion and Priest. Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton and Dakota Goyo star. No UK release date has yet been set, but its reaches the US February 2013.

Noah Adds Kevin Durand & Dakota Goyo

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Darren Aronofsky is bulking up his cast for Noah, both literally and figuratively, with 6’6″ actor Kevin Durand signing on for the film. Dakota Goyo, who starred in Real Steel alongside Kevin Durand, has also joined the cast as the younger version of Noah, according to Variety.

The bbilical story follows Noah (Russell Crowe), who has grown tired of the way humans have treated God’s creation of Earth. Kevin Durand will play a ‘watcher,’ a massive giant who helps Noah and his family (biblical giant such as Goliath are often believed to be the offspring of angels and humans). Jennifer Connelly, Douglas Booth, and Logan Lerman star as Noah’s wife and sons, with Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, and Anthony Hopkins also signed up.

Darren Aronofsky is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel. Shooting is expeted to begin very soon.

Director: Shawn Levy
Running Time: 123 mins

Release Date: February 20th, 2012

I’m not a big fan of the people who like to say everything about modern Hollywood is rubbish and films were better in the past (largely because if you look at it objectively, it’s nonsense), but one thing a lot of big Hollywood flicks do seem to have lost in the last few years is real heart. It’s as if a fear of being labelled sentimental or phoney has ended up with films that don’t even try to tug on your heartstrings or really engage you emotionally. It’s nice then when a film comes along that wears its heart of its sleeve and isn’t afraid to be a full-on, feel-good, heartwarmer. [Read more…]
