The makers of James Bond are getting with the 21st Century and have released a video blog, which sees Sam Mendes talking about making the movie, and noting that despite the fact he’s British, this is his seventh film and the first time he’s shot in the UK! There’s also a new pic with Judi Dench on set, so enjoy both that and the vlog. Skyfall hits UK cinemas in October.
First Official Skyfall Picture Drops, With 007 Looking Moody
A few weeks ago we had an image of Daniel Craig sitting by a pool, which was billed as the first image from Skyfall, but now the guys behind the movie have released what they say is the first official shot from the movie.
On one level it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Bond shot – 007 holding a gun – but it would appear they’ve picked a shot that’s deliberately dark and moody, suggesting a break in tone from Quantum of Solace (which most people now feel was a bit of a disaster for a franchise that had only just re-established its street cred). The movie hits screens this October.
Daniel Craig Gets Shirtless & Wet In First Official Skyfall Image
Skyfall doesn’t hit cinema screens until October 26th, but now the first official image has been released. It doesn’t really tell us much, other than at some point 007 is going to be getting his shirt off and going for a swim. At least we know Daniel Craig’s still hitting the gym. Let’s hope though there’s more to Skyfall than swimming.
The pic was taken recently during filming at the London Four Seasons hotel.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Eight-Minute Trailer – Get your fill of Fincher’s flick
A few weeks ago, a lucky few were treated to an eight-minute, extended trailer for David Fincher’s take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Those who saw it gave great feedback, and it has been expected that it would leak online very quickly. However it’s taken longer than expected, but now it’s here. It’s definitely worth watching, if just to wallow in Fincher’s wonderful style. It certainly make you want to see the rest of the film. The movie revolves around a mystery concerning the long-unsolved disappearance of an heiress. A journalist (Daniel Craig) recently threatened with imprisoned due to a libel case and a young female hacker (Rooney Mara) try to solce the case, stirring up bundles of personal and industrial corruption along the way involving the powerful but slightly strange Vanger family. The movie is out on Boxing Day.
Skyfall Adds Helen McRory
You’d have thought that with last week’s James Bond press conference also marking the start of shooting, they’d have announced all the main cast then, but it appears a couple of names slipped through the net, as the official 007 Twitter account has revealed, ‘There are two new additions to the cast of Skyfall: Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace.’
There’s no news on who either of them will play though.
McRory is probably best known for playing Marcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies (and would have been Bellatrix Lestrange if she hadn’t been heavily pregnant when the role was first shooting). Ola Rapace meanwhile is Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace’s husband (although last we heard they were getting divorced), and is a well known face in Scandinavia.

Skyfall Press Conference Footage
Yesterday a load of info emerged from the press conference for Bond 23, which was revealed to be called Skyfall. If you fancy watching the cast and crew at the press conference, revealing the info about the film and what’s going on in it, you can take a look at this excellent compilation of footage. The film will be in UK cinemas next October.
Bond 23 Will Officially Be Called Skyfall
A few weeks ago rumours emerged that the next James Bond movie would be called Skyfall, as Sony Picture has purchased a bunch of 007-related website addresses with that name featured in them. Today a huge press conference was held for the film, where it was announced the movie would indeed be called Skyfall.
However, if you were hoping for lots of plot details to be announced at the same time, you’ll be disappointed, as those are still pretty much being kept under wraps. A short syopsis was released though, which just tells us, “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.” Sounds like Judi Dench will be getting a bigger role this time around then!
The cast has also been confirmed, with Daniel Craig and Judi Dench joined by Bérénice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Wishaw and Albert Finney. While it’s been speculated that Harris would play Miss Moneypenny (who’s been missing from Craig’s 007 adventures), she’ll actually be a field agent called Eve. Marlohe meanwhile will be a glamorous, enigmatic character called Severin.
No character names were revealed for Bardem, Fiennes, Whishaw and Finney, with director Sam Mendes suggesting that the reason for that with at least some of their characters is that we’d recognise the names and it would give things away. We know Bardem will be the main villain, and there’s speculation Fiennes will be a Blofeld-type character, although whether he’ll actually be the SPECTRE baddie isn’t known.
Mendes also says he wants the film to have a similar tone to Casino Royale, partly because he wasn’t a fan of Quantum Of Solace. Shooting begins today in Whitehall, with filming also taking place at Pinewood Studios as well as Shanghai, Istanbul and Scotland.
It’s less than a year now until it hits cinemas, with the UK release due on 26th October, 2012

Albert Finney On For Bond 23?
There have been reports Sam Mendes wants to emphasise dialgue-rich drama over action in the next Bond movie, and while it’s uncertain how much truth there is in that (probably not too much), he certainly seems to be getting a strong cast together, with the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris reportedly appearing alongside regulars Daniel Craig and Judi Dench.
Now the Daily Mail reports that Albert Finney will be joining them, playing a foreign office chief. There’s not much more info on his role than that, but then we don’t actually know much about the movie at all, other than that Bardem is going to be a villain and there’s a decent chance it could be called Skyfall.
The Bond producers are notoriously secretive, but with Mendes at the helm, you’ve got to imagine they’re planning something a little special. Either way they’ll have to start shooting fairly soon, as it’s due in UK cinemas of October 26th, 2012.
