Ed Harris Joins Ethan Hawke In Cymbeline

August 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ed-harrisWe only first heard about a movie version of Shakepeare’s Cymbeline last week, when it was revealed that Ethan Hawke was set to star in Michael Almereyda’s adaptation. However, with the film set to start shooting in a couple of weeks time, there’s plenty more role to fill.

One of those has now gone to Ed Harris, according to THR, who’ll play the king of the title. Shakespeare’s play is about the daughter of the British king Cymbeline, who discovers she has secretly married a man raised in her father’s court, resulting in his banishment from the court. However this modern day take ‘unfolds as a battle between dirty cops and a drug-dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America.’

Shooting begins on August 19th in New York.

Snowpiercer is one of this year’s more intriguing films, with Korean director Joon-ho Bong (The Host, Mother) making his English-language debut. The film is a dystopian sci-fi set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are on the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe.

However a revolution  is brewing amongst the passengers inside.

Now we’re being introduced to the cast and characters thanks to a slew of passport images, which give us a look at Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner), Yona (Ah-sung Ko), and director Joon-ho Bong.

The film hits US cinemas in May. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Phantom Trailer – David Duchovny & Ed Harris go submarining

December 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Submarines are always intriguing but difficult places to set movies – they’re inherently claustrophobic, dangerous and a little creepy. Add in the fact that many sumbarines have nuclear weapons onboard and you’ve got a great set-up for a film.

That’s the background for Todd Robinson’s Phantom, which stars Ed Harris as Demi, a Soviet submarine captain who wants to retire but gets forced to go on a top secret mission. He probably shouldn’t be going, as Demi suffers from seizures that alter his perception of reality. His mission goes awry when a rogue KGB group, led by named Bruni David (Duchovny), tries to takes control of the sub. Demi begins to think that he’s been deliberately set up fail and take the blame for a nuclear disaster that could start a war. Now he’s the only one who can stop it.

No UK release is currently set but it reaches the US on March 1st.

Glengarry Glen Ross (Blu-ray/DVD)

October 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Alex Baldwin, Ed Harris
Director: James Foley
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 22nd 2012

Glengarry Glen Ross is proof of what can happen when you put a great script in the hands of an ensemble of dynamite actors. In many ways Glengarry Glen Ross shouldn’t work. It’s largely about people sitting around talking, has minimal plot, and never fully escapes the stage that David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play was originally presented on.

However, what in many films would be seen as shortcomings are here the movie’s greatest strengths, as it allows the film to concentrate on the electric dynamism of Mamet’s dialogue in the hands of one of the best groups of actors ever assembled for a film (even Jack Lemmon said it was the best cast he’d ever been involved with, which is saying something). After all, it contains four Oscar-winners and two more Oscar nominees, which is certainly an impressive line-up, especially as likes of Kevin Spacey weren’t that well known when it was made. Virginia Trailer – Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut

April 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Virginia (or What’s With Virginia? as it was initially titled) debuted with mixed-to-bad reviews at the Toronto Film Festival a few months ago, but Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut still seems like it’ll be worth a look. It’s out on the US in May and should reach the UK later this year.

Black is, of course, best known as the out and proud screenwriter of Milk and J. Edgar, but here thing are less historical and more satirical. In the film, a sheriff (Ed Harris) sees his state senate bid slide onto the ice when his daughter begins to date the son of a charming but psychologically disturbed woman (Jennifer Connelly) with whom the sheriff has engaged in a two-decades-long affair.

Some have commented that the trailer seems deceptive, as the film they saw plays out more tragic than the comic tone of the promo, However it has been completely re-edited since its TIFF debut, due to some of the severe criticism it came in for. Hopefully Dustin will have sorted things out, as the trailer does make the movie look decent enough.

Win Touching Home Starring Ed Harris On DVD!

March 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ed Harris is always a good bet for quality entertainment, and the star of The Abyss and The Truman Show’s latest, Touching Home, arrives on DVD on March 19th, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment, and we’ve got a copy to give away.

In bringing Touching to the screen, Logan and Noah Miller accomplished the impossible. When their homeless father died alone in a jail cell, they vowed that their autobiographical film would be made as a dedication to their love for him. With no money and no contacts, they persuaded four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris to star in the film and managed to assemble a cast and crew with 11 Academy Awards and 28 nominations between them.

In this emotionally charged drama, the Millers co-star as Lane and Clint Winston, twin brothers from a working class background who pursue professional baseball careers while trying to save their homeless, alcoholic father Charlie (Harris).

If you’d like to try and win the copy of Touching Home that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on March 27th, so get answering and good luck!
