Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer & John Cena Join Robert Downey Jr. In The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle

March 29, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just over a year ago it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. was sett to follow in Rex Harrison’s (and Eddie Murphy’s) footsteps by playing Doctor Dolittle on the big screen. Now the cast has grown, with the likes of Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer & John Cena, who will be voicing animals alongside the previously announced Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, and Ralph Fiennes.

Antonio Banderas is onboard to play a pirate, with Michael Sheen as a character called Mudfly.

To help us picture who everyone in the voice cast will be, Downey Jr. tweeted out and image to show who’s a giraffe, who’s a dog and who’s a parrot. You can take a look at that image below.

The will be based around Hugh Lofting’s famous children’s character, a doctor who tires of treating animals and learns to speak to animals. There’s no news on the exact story for this new version, but it will involve the Doctor will be going off on a big trip. The film is due out April 2019 and is planned as the first part of a new film franchise. [Read more…]

The Shape Of Water Red Band Trailer – Guillermo del Toro has a brand new fantasy

November 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If Guillermo Del Toro directs something, you know it’s going to be unique. Although with The Shape Of Water he seems to have been taking in a few inspirations, from the likes of ET and Amelie to the character of Abe Spien in Hellboy. It certainly looks like it could be something special, and early feviews from film festivals suggest the Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director hasn’t lost his touch..

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.’

The movie is out in the US at the end of the year, with a February UK date set. Take a look at the new Red Band trailer below. [Read more…]

The Shack Trailer – A grieving Sam Worthington finds God in Octavia Spencer

December 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shack-slideAnyone who’s noticed Olivia Spencer’s unerring ability to steal every scene she’s every starred in may already be suspicious that she’s a bit godly. Now she may be literally God in the new movie, The Shack.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips (Sam Worthington) spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa (Octavia Spencer). Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.’

Although the synopsis doesn’t state it flat out, Spencer’s character may be a manifestation of God. Based on William P. Young’s movie, with Stuart Hazeldine direct, The Shack is due out next Spring. [Read more…]

Gifted Trailer – Chris Evans is a single father raising a child prodigy

November 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gifted-slideMarc Webb jumped from the indie darling 500 Days of Summer to the mega-budget The Amazing Spider-man movies, but now he’s heading back to something a little smaller with Gifted, based on Tom Flynn’s black-listed script. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) – in a coastal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.’

The movie is due out next Spring. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Guillermo Del Toro Directing A Cold War Romance With Sally Hawkins & Octavia Spencer

March 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Guillermo-del-ToroNot much is known about Guillermo Del Toro’s next movie, but we do now know that it’s a Cold War romance, which has Sally Hawkins attached to star, with Octavia Spencer in talks to join her, according to Variety and THR. Shooting will start this summer.

Del Toro had been weighing up several options for his next film, but apparently this one was always top of the list. Story details are been kept secret, but it’s believed that it’s ‘a mysterious and magical journey set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963 with an otherworldly love story at the center of it.’

Del Toro also wrote the script for the movie, so it’s little surprise it will mix the real with the fantastical. He’s also still working on a Pacific Rim sequel, but that’s taking longer to put together than originally planned.

New Snowpiercer Red-Band Trailer – Chris Evans is looking dirty amongst an incredible cast

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Snowpiercer has had a few problems. Despite great reviews from film festivals, it became stuck in a battle between director Bong Joon-ho and The Weinstein Company over whether a recut version should be released commercially in the US and potentially other countries as well. The Weinsteins wanted to recut it, but Bong wants his version released.

It’s been stuck in limbo for English-speaking countries for over a year now, but eventually the Weinsteins relented and so the director’s original cut will hit US cinemas on June 27th (although annoyingly there’s still no UK date).

Ahead of that comes a new, rather cool, red-band trailer, which gives us a good feel for the movie.

The film is set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are on a train (which gives the film its name) that travels around the globe. However a revolution is brewing amongst the passengers. The film has a great cast, following Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner) and Yona (Ah-sung Ko) as they ride the train. February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

octavia-spencerAaron Paul, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried have been attached to Fathers And Daughters for a few months, and now the cast has grown once more, as the news has come out of Berlin (via Variety) that Octavia Spencer, Quvenzhane Wallis And Diane Kruger have joined the movie.

Crowe plays a famous novelist who is struggling to raise his five-year-old daughter, largely because he is battling mental illness. Amanda Seyfried is playing the adult daughter in present-day Manhattan, who is still coming to grips with her troubled childhood.

According to Variety, ‘Spencer will play the spirited head of the psychiatric clinic where Seyfried’s character counsels troubled children. Wallis will play a patient who hasn’t spoken a word for a year since her mother was murdered while Kruger will play the sister-in law of Crowe’s character, who blames him for the death of her sister.’

Bill Murray, Octavia Spencer & Jennifer Coolidge Wants To Say B.O.O.

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bill-MurrayOn Halloween DreamWorks Animation decided it was a good idea to reveal that Bill Murray will join  cast of B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations as villainous ghost, Addison Drake. Jennifer Coolidge, best known for her role as Stifler’s mom in American Pie, will play Carol Sue, a bubbly transitions-relations officer, the The Help’s Octavia Spencer will play the tough as nails Sr. B.O.O. officer, Captain Book, according to THR.

The trio join the previously announced Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Rashida Jones and Matthew Bomer.

Director Anthony Leondis commented on the new cast members, “Bill Murray is the perfect actor to bring this character to life – or should I say ‘after-life? Along with Jennifer and Octavia, this is a dream cast. I can’t imagine a team more capable of packing a funnier punch to this broadly comedic ghost story.”

The supernatural action comedy follows two bumbling ghosts who get into all sorts of trouble when they join the Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (B.O.O.) – the ghost world’s elite counter-haunting unit – and ultimately must face off against the planet’s greatest haunter.

The film is set to be released by Twentieth Century Fox on June 5, 2015.

First Pics From Diablo Cody’s Paradise, Featuring Julianne Hough & Russell Brand

July 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Diablo Cody made a big splash with her Oscar winning screenplay for Juno, however she hasn’t really been able to capitalise on that with the likes of Jennifer’s Body and Young Adult. Now she’s turning director for Paradise, and the first images have emerged via USA Today.

Previously titled Lamb Of God, the comedy is about a young conservative religious woman (Julianne hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash. She decides to go to Las Vegas to live the life of a sinner and on her journey finds her way back to her faith. Cody comments that, “She is so naive that some of the shocking things she does we all would do on a Friday night.”

Russell Brand plays William, a bartender who befriends the young woman after she arrives in Vegas. The great cast also includes Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, and Holly Hunter.

Diablo says, “If you have ever been through something incredibly difficult such as [Lamb’s injury], you know it’s hard to stay positive and not surrender to cynicism completely,” she said. “I wanted to make a non-cynical movie that would inspire positivity.”

An October US release date is already set, but there’s no UK release currently set.
