New Byzantium Trailer – Saoirse Ronan & Gemma Arterton turn a little bit vampire

April 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Byzantium definitely look intriguing, even if it met a bit of a mixed response on its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival at the end of last year. However this new trailer look pretty good, with Neil Jordan going back to the world of bloodsuckers for the first time since Interview With The Vampire.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan) is a precocious girl with a bent for storytelling. A natural introvert, her idea of a good time is to put pen to paper and reflect on her inner life. Her “sister” Clara (Gemma Arterton) is the complete opposite: extroverted and sexual, she struts around in stilettos and skin-tight garb, attracting hungry male gazes wherever she goes. Both carry secrets from deep in their shared past — all 200 years of it — which bubbles to the surface as Jordan wends his way through the twists and turns of the plot.

‘It turns out that Clara was involved in a passionate love affair during the Napoleonic Wars, while at the same time Eleanor was abandoned as a child. In the present, both seek to preserve their secret from their unsuspecting new companions. Eleanor falls for a sweet young waiter (Caleb Landry Jones), while Clara settles on a homey, unsuspecting man (Daniel Mays) who has just come into an inheritance: the Byzantium Hotel, which has seen better days. The fun begins as Eleanor and Clara shack up in the hotel, feeding off their victims while attempting to stay one step ahead of their pursuers, who are hot on the duo’s trail after Clara rather violently disposes of a particularly seedy pickup.’

The movie, which also stars Jonny Lee Miller, Sam Riley, and Tom Hollander, will be out in the UK on May 31st. [Read more…]

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Sequel In The Works

March 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hansel-Gretel-witch-hunters-poster2When Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was delayed from last year to this spring, few people gave it much chance of becoming a hit, but it’s proven its critics wrong, taking more than $200 million worldwide on a budget of $50 million.

As a result, THR reports that Paramount Pictures and MGM have confirmed that a sequel is in the works, as the $200 million mark was the milestone they’d set to decide to move forward with a follow-up.

In the first film, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the title characters, who 15 years after their nasty experience at the gingerbread house, work as witch hunters. It’s not known at the moment whether the two stars will return, nor whether writer/director Tommy Wirkola will be back at the helm, although its quite likely all three will be up for more fairytale madness.

Byzantium Trailer – Gemma Arterton & Saoirse Ronan turn vampire

February 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Byzantium debuted at TIFF last year it was met with decidedly mixed reviews, but it’s definitely an intriguing looking movie, with Neil Jordan going back to the world of bloodsuckers for the first time since Interview With The Vampire.

New Song For Marion/Unfinished Song Trailer – Gemma Arterton gets Terrence Stamp to sing ‘Let’s Talk About Sex’

January 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears that while the film Song For Marion is sticking with that title in the UK, in the US it’s going to be known as Unfinished Song, as that’s the name this American trailer gives for the movie. Whatever it’s called, it looks corny but potentially fun, with Gemma Arterton getting a bunch of old folks to sing.

The film is a London-set comedic drama about grumpy pensioner Arthur (Terence Stamp) who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) to join a highly unconventional local choir. At odds with his son James (Christopher Eccleston), it is left to choir director Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) to try and persuade Arthur that he can learn to embrace life. Arthur must confront the undercurrents of his own grumbling persona as he embarks on a hilarious, life-affirming journey of musical self discovery.

It hits UK cinemas on February 8th.

New Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters NSFW Trailer

January 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We might have had to wait quite a while for the release of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, but it’s not long now until the film’s February 22nd release. To help up the anticipation, Paramount has released a new red band trailer, showing this fairytale is going to be pretty violent.

The film sees Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as grown up versions of Hansel & Gretel, who now work as bounty hunters tracking down witches. If you were thinking this was going to be all buttercups and fairytale prettiness, think again, as it’s going to have plenty of blood and guts, along with a dark sense of humour. Tommy Wirkola directs.

Gemma Arterton & Benedict Cumberbatch Will Do Absolutely Anything

November 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although you’d have expected a movie that promises to reteam the surviving Pythons (minus Eric Idle) wouldn’t have much difficulty getting made, Absolutely Anything has been in development for a long time. Terry Jones has been in line to direct for nearly two decades, and in 2010 he signed up Terry Gilliam, John Cleese and Michael Palin to voice aliens in the movie.

At that time, John Oliver was lined up to star, but things have been languishing, only now moving forward with the news, via The Wrap, that Gemma Arterton has signed on the dotted line to star in the film, with Benedict Cumberbatch in talks.

The film is based on a script from Jones and Gavin Scott, which is about a group of aliens who decide to give a teacher (Cumberbatch) the power to do absolutely anything – Bruce Almighty style – with just a wave of his hand. The site reports, ‘He can wipe out classrooms of badly behaving students and bring people back to life. But he experiences mishap after mishap as he tries to learn how to use these powers’. Robin Williams is set to be a talking dog named Dennis (to be voiced by Robin Williams) who understands more about what’s going on than anyone else.

The plan in to shoot the movie in the first quarter of 2013.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters – Red Band Trailer

October 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If all had gone to the original plan, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters would have hit cinemas last spring, but it got delayed (some have suggested because it’s not that great, others have said that movie was waiting for Jeremy Renner to get more famous). Now it’s set for release early next year (March 15th to be exact), and the a new red band trailer has arrived, giving us a look at the movie, which sees Renner and Gemma Arterton as grown up versions of the fairy tale characters, who now work as bounty hunters tracking down witches. If you were thinking this was going to be all buttercups and fairytale prettiness, think again, as it’s going to have plenty of blood and guts, along with a dark sense of humour.

Song For Marion Trailer – Terence Stamp gets grumpy with Gemma Arterton

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ahead of its debut as the London Film Festival, the trailer for Song For Marion has arrived. It may not be the most exciting sounding premise, but the cast is great and the trailer certainly make it seem worth a look.
