It’s time for another sequel that no one asked for, but with Hollywood looking for any and every way to entice Chinese audience, it’s been revealed that Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson getting back together for a follow-up to Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, according to THR.
13 years on from the last movie, they’re in talks return as a former Chinese Imperial Guard (Chan) and a Wild West cowboy in the 19th Century. There’s no news on the exact plot of this one, but hopefully they’ve come up with something good, as the film was first put into development back in 2003, shortly after the release of Shanghai Knights.
Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) is set to direct, from a script by Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum, based on a story by with Miles Millar and Alfred Gough (writers of the earlier Shanghai movies). It’s not clear when it might shoot.
The Karate Kid remake was a surprise hit on its 2010 release, earning $343 million worldwide. While there was early talk of a sequel, that quietened down after Jaden Smith went off to make After Earth. However now it seems things are moving forward on The Karate Kid 2 once more.
We haven’t seen too much of Sean William Scott recently, as we’ve only has a brief appearance in the dreadful Movie 43 since American Reunion. However, now he’s joined Sam Fell’s comedic action film, Skiptrace. Jackie Chan and Bingbing Fan are already attached to star.
For a few months, it’s been rumoured that Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes were all wanted for The Expendables 3. Today, it has been announced that they are all in “advanced negotiations” with production slated to start this August, and there’s a female name in the mix too, Milla Jovovich.
It’s been suggested that Jackie Chan has requested that this next film be a buddy-buddy movie, and that Sylvester Stallone has agreed to that request, and apparently the screenplay is being rewritten to meet this specified criteria.
