Amy Adams & Jake Gyllenhaal May Be Nocturnal Animals For A Single Man’s Tom Ford

March 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-fordGay Fashion designer Tom Ford had great critical success when he turned director for 2009’s A Single Man, but it’s only now that he’s plotting his second feature, Nocturnal Animals, with Variety reporting that he’s got Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star.

The movie is ‘Based on the novel by Austin Wright titled “Tony and Susan,” the plot is described as a story inside a story, with the first part following a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion.

‘The second element follows the actual manuscript, called “Nocturnal Animals,” which revolves around a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly. It also continues to follow the story of Susan, who finds herself recalling her first marriage and confronting some dark truths about herself.’

Ford is set to write and direct, and while it’s early day in negotiations, it appears it’s Adams and Gyllenhaal who have been pushing to be cast, so there’s an extremely good chance they will sign on the dotted line.

It’s not clear when it will shoot.

Nightcrawler (Blu-ray Review)

March 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton
Director: Dan Gilroy
Running Time: 117 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 2nd 2015

I’m not entirely sure why Jake Gyllenhaal felt the need to lose loads of weight for Nightcrawler, but conbined with a very good performance he certainly looks the part of a man who’s one step away from being a psychopath – and maybe not even one step.

He is Louis Bloom, who’s certainly not lacking in confidence and believes he’s got everything to offer the world, but his life and career is going nowhere, partly because he lacks direction and also because he had no issue being on the edge of the law. However he stumbles into a career he never expected when he meets a Nightcrawler – freelance cameramen who race to emergencies in the hope of getting sensationalist footage for the local news. Jake Gyllenhaal Is Super-Ripped & Shirtless In The First Pic From Southpaw

November 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jake-gyllenhaal-southpawIt looks like Jake Gyllenhaal is bidding to join the Robert De Niro and Christian Bale club of actors who are happy to completely transform they body for a role. Sfter losing huge amounts of weight for Nightcrawler, he’s now turned his torso into a vascular mass of rippling muscles for Southpaw.

The first pic has arrived via Deadline, which seems deliberately designed to make us goggle at the 15 pounds of pure muscle the actor packed on for the movie.

Oddly though, if everything had gone to the original plan, this wouldn’t be a pic of Gyllenhaal, it would be Eminem, as when it went into development it was designed as a boxing film that was an allegory for the rapper’s own life.

However that all changed and now it’s Jake who is ‘Junior Middleweight Champion Billy “The Great” Hope, a lefty champ who loses everything in a personal tragedy and is forced to fight his way to redemption.’

Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent and Naomie Harris co-star with Antoine Fuqua directing. Southpaw will be in cinemas sometime next year.

Jake Gyllenhaal Looks Back On The Importance Of Brokeback Mountain

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brokeback-mountainWith Nightcrawler hitting cinemas last week, Jake Gyllenhaal sat down with Huffpo and took the opportunity to look back at one of the most important films of his career – Brokeback Mountain.

He considers its place both in his own filmography and its more general legacy. The ‘gay cowboy’ film follows Gyllenhaal’s Jack Twist and Heath Ledger’s Ennis Del Mar, from their meeting while looking after sheep on the titular Brokeback Mountain, through their love affair over the next 30 years.

Gyllenhaal notes, “It was at the time, culturally, it gave me the idea that movies can be important. That they do have some sort of political value…it’s become something beyond what any of us could have imagined.”

He adds, ‘”It’s a beautiful story and it was very successful in many different ways and so that’s what brought a lot of the attention… It’s one of those films that’s no longer mine – it’s sort of everyone’s.”

You can take a look at what Jake had to say below. [Read more…]

Jake Gyllenhaal Will Be The Man Who Made It Snow

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake-GyllenhaalJake Gyllenhaal got some of the best notices of his career for the just released Nightcrawler (and not solely for his dramatic weight loss). It now looks like he’s interested in staying in morally ambiguous territory with The Man Who Made It Snow according to Deadline.

The film will reunite him with director Antoine Fuqua, who have only just finished working together on the upcoming movie Southpaw.

Although the title on the new film make it sound like this will be a sweet, charming tale, the ‘Snow’ of the title has a double meaning. The Man Who Made It Snow tells the true story of Max Mermelstein, ‘a Jewish hotel engineer who transformed Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel from a small mom-and-pop drug organization into a billion-dollar enterprise’. However he later turned against Escobar and acted as a witness for the US government.

The plan is to shoot the movie late next year, once the full funding is in place.

Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal & More On The Doctor Strange Shortlist

October 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ewan-mcgregorA couple of months ago it seemed Marvel has sewn up the casting of Doctor Strange with Joaquin Phoenix in talks for the role. However he passed on the role and so the studio has been on the lookout again.

Variety is now reporting that Marvel has a shortlist of the people they may want, with some suggesting Ewan McGregor is now the frontrunner, with Ethan Hawke, Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar Isaac, and Jared Leto also in the mix.

While the list ranges from big names to those still rising up the ladder, it’s suggested Marvel would prefer a well-known name to lead the film, presumably because of concerns about lacking of recognition for the character.

However all of the them could fit the bill, as even Oscar Isaac is likely to be a much bigger name than he is now after Star Wars Episode VII. It’s thought McConaughey may be too big a name and too busy, unless he really wants to join the Marvel universe, while Gyllenhaal has a very mixed record in big films.

Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Scott Derrickson is set to direct, with a July 8th, 2016 release date set.

New Nightcrawler Trailer – Morality gets murky as Jake Gyllenhaal looks at nighttime crime

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nightcrawler-posterNightcrawler looks like it could be an interesting movie, even if we’re still not sure why Jake Gyllenhaal decided the skinny look was the way to go to star in it. Now a new trailer has arrived, which gives us our best look yet at the intriguing film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lou Bloom, an ambitious young man desperate for work, discovers the world of L.A. crime journalism. When Lou learns of a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles his way into the dangerous realm of night crawling, where a police siren wail means a possible windfall, and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Nina, a local TV news veteran, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant.’

Nightcrawler Teaser – Jake Gyllenhaal is an intense guy looking for work

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nightcrawler-teaserThe makers of Nightcrawler have tried something a bit different with some of the first marketing for the movie, as rather than releasing a normal teaser trailer, they posted a Craigslist ad, linked to a video where Jake Gyllenhaal is a hard worker seeking employment.

It’s an interesting way of doing things, especially as the makers have deliberately been keeping quiet about the exact plot, other than that it centres on ‘a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of LA freelance crime journalism’.

Dan Gilroy wrote the script and makes his directorial debut with the movie, which is due out later this year.

And as you’ll see below, this is the film that saw the actor becoming scarily skinny. [Read more…]

Jake-GyllenhaalDirector Jean-Marc Vallée had a big success with Dallas Buyers Club. Now he’s plotting his follow-up, and Variety reports that he’s lining up Jake Gyllenhaal to star in the film, which is called Demolition.

Assuming he signs on the dotted line, Jake will play a young investment banker whose life is in shambles after the tragic death of his wife. He starts to tear his life apart trying to figure out where he went wrong, but is rescued by a woman he meets during a chance encounter.

There’s not guarantee Gyllenhaal will sign on, as he’s due to go into production on the boxing drama Southpaw next month and is currently weighing his options for what to star in after that.
