Kodi Smit-McPhee Up For Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kodi-smit-mcpheeWith a May 23rd, 2014 release date already set, Fox knows it needs to get Dawn of the Planet of the Apes into production fairly soon, to ensure there’s enough time to sort out all the CGI apes. At the moment they’re busy putting the cast together.

Just a few days after Jason Clarke signed on to star in the movie, Deadline reports that teenager Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast as one of the leads.

The film with reunite Kodi with Let Me In director Matt Reeves on the film. The story is set 15 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and will follow a group of scientists who are trying to survive in a world that is fast being overrun by super-intelligent apes. There’s also Caesar (Andy Serkis), the ape leader who is having trouble controlling the animals in his kingdom. Unfortunately no character details have been released for Smit-McPhee’s role at this time.

Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback.

Jason Clarke Up For Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

February 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-ClarkeAussie actor Jason Clarke has been slowly rising the ranks of Hollywood, and his recent role in Zero Dark Thirty has certainly impressed a lot of people. Now he could be getting closer the a-list, as THR says he’s signed up to join the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

It isn’t known exactly who he’ll be playing, but it’s believed he’s taking on the main human role (James Franco isn’t likely to return, although may have a cameo). The film is apparently set 15 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, concentrating on a group of scientists who are struggling to survive in San Francisco, while Caesar (Andy Serkis) tries to maintain control of his growing ape kingdom.

Matt Reeves (Let Me In) is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback. A spring shoot is planned, with a May 23rd, 2014 release already set.

Lawless (Blu-ray)

January 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy
Director: John Hillcoat
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 14th 2012

When it was released in cinemas last September, there were rumblings that Lawless would be in the running for the Oscars. It rather lost momentum over the last few months and ended up with no nominations at all. It’s a shame as while it’s not a masterpiece, Tom Hardy deserved a nod in one of the acting categories and the cinematography should also have been acknowledged. Indeed, I’d have included it in the Best Picture category ahead of Amour and Silver Linings Playbook. [Read more…]

Jason Clarke & Oscar Isaac Going To Mojave

December 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been several months since it was revealed that Departed screenwriter William Monahan is planning to turn director with Mojave, based on his own script. Now he’s filled out the cast, with Variety reporting that Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) have signed up for the movie.

When news of Monahan’s film was first announced, there wasn’t much info on the story, but it’s now been revealed that it’s ‘an intense two-hander about a man who escapes into the desert only to encounter a doppelganger-like antagonist and subsequently enter a vortex of criminality and violence.’

To be honest, you wouldn’t think Aussie actor Clarke would be a good doppelganger for Guatamalan born Isaac, but presumably it makes more sense in the script.

The plan is to shoot early next year.

Wes Bentley & Brit Marling Join Young Lincoln Biopic Green Blade Rises

September 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago it was revealed Terrence Malick is set to produce the directorial debut of AJ Edwards, who worked with Malick on The New World, The Tree Of Life and To The Wonder. The film is all about Abraham Lincoln’s youth and already has Diane Kruger and Jason Clarke attached to play Lincoln’s step-mother and father.

Now it’s been revealed that Wes Bentley and Brit Marling will also star, with Bentley playing the future President’s first teacher and Marling as Nancy, his biological mother who withstood the challenges of pioneer life.

The Green Blade Rises tells the untold story of the youth of America’s greatest hero. It chronicles the hardships that shaped him, including abandonment by his father in the harsh winter wilderness, the tragedy that marked him forever and the two women who guided him to immortality, putting him on the path to becoming one of the most influential Presidents in United States history.

Jason Clarke On For Youn Lincoln Biopic Green Blade Rises

September 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At this rate there won’t be a moment of Abe Lincoln’s life – real or fictional – that hasn’t been committed to film. We’ve already had him fighting vampires and this autumn we get Spielberg’s look at his later life. Now Jason Clarke has signed up to star in The Green Blade Rises, about the President’s younger years.

None other that Terrence Malick is producing the movie, while his regular collaborator AJ Edwards is writing and directing the movie. Deadline says the film ‘tells of the formative years of the 16th US president and the hardships that shape him including abandonment by his father (Jason Clarke) in the harsh winter wilderness, a tragedy that marked him forever, and the two women who guided him to immortality. Clarke’s character has a callous, quiet demeanor, verbally and physically abusive towards Abe on many occasions, but lets his son know how proud he is of him. He is married to Sarah Lincoln (played by Diane Kruger), Abe’s beautiful stepmother.’

It doesn’t sound like this will all be about Lincoln cutting down cherry trees and never telling lies then.

Aussie actor Clarke’s profile is likely to rise soon with roles in Lawless, Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby and White House Down.

Lawless Character Posters – Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf & more

May 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago we had the trailer for Lawless, which debuts at the Cannes Film Festival ahead of release later this year. And to go alongside the film’s premiere, a set of character posters have been released via Huffpo, showing off Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Jessica Chastain and more’s 1930s gangster style look.

Directed by John Hillcoat from a script by him and Proposition cohort Nick Cave, the movie is based on Matt Bodurant’s book about the author’s grandfather and two great-uncles, who were part of a fierce criminal gang at the centre of the US’s moonshine trade during prohibition. The story also follows a writer named Sherwood Anderson, who is on the trail of the bootlegging gang. The film has a great cast, with Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska onboard. It’ll hit UK cinemas on August 31st.

Kyle Chandler’s Gonna Hunt Bin Laden For Director Kathryn Bigelow

February 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Osama Bin Laden was killed, it appeared Kathryn Bigelow would be going into production incredibly quickly on a movie about the Navy SEAL team who tracked him down. However the film is still to start shooting, and has become a bit of a political football, with some accusing President Obama of giving Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal too much access to the covert mission.

However things are moving forward, with the latest news being that Deadline report Friday Night Lights and Super 8 Kyle Chandler has signed up to play a CIA agent in the drama (although his role is yet to be confirmed). Chandler joins a cast which includes Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, and Édgar Ramírez.

It isn’t known when production will begin on the movie, although it can’t be too long now! It’s also uncertain when it’ll get a name.

Jason Clarke Joins Bigelow’s Bin Laden Pic

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s taken Kathryn Bigelow quite a while to get her follow-up to The Hurt Locker rolling, but now it appears her movie about the guys who hunted down Osama Bin Laden is gearing towards a shoot. Jason Clarke (The Chicago Code, Texas Killing Fields) has become the first actor to sign on for Bigelow’s currently untitled project, which is set up at Sony Pictures.

Clarke will play one of the elite soldiers assigned by the US government to hunt down terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Deadline also says that actors such as Tom Hardy, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, and Nina Arianda are in contention for other roles, although no offers have been made yet. There’s no mention of Joel Edgerton, who was once attached to the film, but seems to have stepped away after delays pushed filming back.

Kathryn Bigelow is directing from a screenplay by Mark Boal, who also wrote the script for The Hurt Locker. Production is scheduled to start sometime early next year, with an October 12, 2012 US release date already set.
