X-Men: Dark Phoenix Trailer – James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender face a new threat

October 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.

‘With Jean spiralling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

‘X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp and Jessica Chastain. Direction comes from Simon Kinberg.’

mother! (Blu-ray Review) – Is the Jennifer Lawrence movie audaciously impressive or completely crazy?

January 21, 2018 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Running Time: 121 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 22nd 2018 (UK)

There’s rarely been as big a divide between critics and audiences as there was with mother!. While it’s got a decent 69% from critics on RottenTomatoes, on its US release it got a rare ‘F’ CinemaScore, based on audience reaction. Only 19 films have ever been given such a low rating. Watching the film you can understand why, because audience members who typically just watch typical Hollywood fare almost certainly had no idea what they were getting into, and probably ended up very confused about what they’d just seen.

This is not your typical multiplex movie, but it was given a wide release and marketing that suggested it was a relatively mainstream-style horror flick. What it really is though is an auteur-fuelled, rather experimental arthouse movie, filled with allegory and surreal, Bunuel-esque touches, but done on a big budget and starring the biggest actress in the world right now. New Red Sparrow Trailer – Jennifer Lawrence turns killer Russian spy

January 8, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence worked with director Francis Lawrence on Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Now they’re reteaming for something rather different, with Lawrence playing a Russian spy in Red Sparrow

Here’s the sysopsis: ‘Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is drafted against her will to become a “sparrow,” a trained seductress in the Russian security service. Dominika learns to use her body as a weapon, but struggles to maintain her sense of self during the dehumanizing training process. Finding her power in an unfair system, she emerges as one of the program’s strongest assets. Her first target is Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton), a CIA officer who handles the agency’s most sensitive infiltration of Russian intelligence. The two young operatives fall into a spiral of attraction and deception, which threatens their careers, allegiances and the security of both countries.

‘Based on the book by former CIA officer Jason Matthews, “Red Sparrow” reunites Jennifer Lawrence with her “Hunger Games” director, Francis Lawrence with Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons, and Mary Louise Parker rounding out the cast.’

The film is due out March 2018. [Read more…]

Red Sparrow Trailer – Jennifer Lawrence turns killer Russian spy

September 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence is busy dividing audiences in cinemas this weekend with mother!, a movie that some say is too mainstream for the art crowd, but too arty for the mainstream crowd, resulting in a lot of viewers genuinely hating it, despite a decent critical reception.

Next year she’ll also be seen in a slightly different role, as a Russian spy in Red Sparrow, which reteams her with Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence.

Here’s the sysopsis: ‘Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is drafted against her will to become a “sparrow,” a trained seductress in the Russian security service. mother! Trailer – Darren Aronofsky heads into horror territory with Jennifer Lawrence

August 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Darren Aronofsky (Noah, Black Swan) likes to make unusual films, and it seems his latest, mother! will follow that trend. This time around it looks like he’s going to be trying to scare us with something intense and a little bit weird. Jennifer Lawrence certainly doesn’t look like she’s having a good time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.’

The movie is due in cinemas on September 15th. Take a look at the teaser below. [Read more…]

mother! Tease – Jennifer Lawrence stars in Darren Aronofsky’s horror/thriller

July 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Darren Aronofsky (Noah, Black Swan) likes to make unusual films, and it seems his latest, mother! will follow that trend. The beginning of the first teaser for the movie gives off Aronofsky’s usual slightly otherworldly tone, before suggest there’s also gonna be a lot of horror/thriller thrown into the mix.

While we haven’t had a full trailer yet, we don’t have long to wait, as the movie is due in cinemas on September 15th. Take a look at the teaser below. [Read more…]

New Passengers Trailer – Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence get lost in space

November 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

passengers-slide2I think the thing I like about this new trailer for Passengers is Chris Pratt’s expression, where he largely looks like he has no idea how he got on a spaceship. Like most of what Pratt does, it’s oddly endearing and helps suggest that despite the epic visuals, this won’t just be a typical sci-fi action fest. There are also some interesting hints toward Kubrick – from 2001 to The Shining – that are rather intriguing too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.’

The movie will be released in December, with many expecting it to be a major hit, and that it may even get some awards consideration. It certainly look like it could be pretty good. [Read more…]

passengers-poster-slideAlongside Arrival, Passengers is this autumn’s other most intriguing looking sci-fi movie. The trailer for the film has not arrived, which you can take a look at below.

First Look At Jennifer Lawrence & Chris Pratt In Sci-fi Flick Passengers

August 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

passengers-ew-pic1Morten Tyldum certainly likes to move through genres, as he went thriller with Headhunters, historical drama with The Imitation Game, and now he’s heading into the world of sci-fi with Passengers. The first pics from the movie have arrived via EW.

Pratt play one of thousands of people who set off on an 120-year interstellar voyage to a new planet. However he wakes up 90 years ahead of schedule, with only androids for company. In need of other human, he decides to wake up a female journalist named Aurora (Lawrence). They inevitably begin to fall in love, and also discover a malfunction on the ship that could threaten their lives.

Tyldum comments, “I honestly couldn’t ask for a better cast. They’re so great together, and both of them are so hard-working. They take the characters so seriously and bring so much to the roles with charm and intelligence and charisma. They really went for it and it is phenomenal to watch.”

The film will be out at the end of the year.

Cate Blanchett Circling Female-Led Ocean’s 11 Spin-Off

June 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate-BlanchettFor several years there’s been talk of a continuation of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, with a new set of female thieves being drafted in. While it got trapped in pre-production (not least due to producer Jerry Weintraub’s death), it’s now moving forward again, with The Playlist reporting that Cate Blanchett is in talks to star.

If she does, she would join Sandra Bullock in movie, and together they would become the equivalent of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and his confidante, Brad Pitt’s Rusty Ryan. There’s also been talk of Jennifer Lawrence joining the movie, and while her representatives have denies it, that may be just due to scheduling issues that they could yet sort out. It wouldn’t be too shocking if she did sign on, as she’s previously worked with the spin-off’s director, Gary Ross, on The Hunger Games.

It’s believed the movie will centre on eight female thieves (the working title is Ocean’s Ocho), and Bullock’s character may be Danny Ocean’s sister. It’s not clear when it might start shooting.
