Johnny Depp Heads Into the Woods With Meryl Streep In Sondheim’s Musical

April 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Johnny-DeppRob Marshall has been working on a film version of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into The Woods, with Meryl Streep attached to star (although a final deal still hasn’t been reached). Now another big name is circling the project, as Johnny Depp is in talks to join Disney’s adaptation, according to Variety.

The project is based on Sondheim’s musical, with a book by James Lapine, which follows a baker and his wife who try to break a curse placed upon them, which prevents them from having children. Along the way, they encounter fairy tale characters such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and many more.

Rob Marshall is directing from a screenplay by Lapine. David Krane is working on the music for the adaptation, with John DeLuca producing. The current plan is to shoot in 2014, with Depp starring after he shoots Transcendence and Black Mass back-to-back.

New The Lone Ranger Trailer – The western goes mega-budget with Johnny Depp

April 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The received wisdom is that in the modern age, westerns don’t make huge amounts of money at the box office, but Disney is making a $200+ million bet on The Lone Ranger. It’s perhaps not as mad as it sounds, as people said the same thing about pirate movies until Johnny Depp, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer came up with Pirates Of The Caribbean – and they’re the same people behind Lone Ranger.

Now an explosive new trailer has been released, which certainly make the film look like it could be a lot of fun, even if the tone is slightly uneven.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero  is brought to life through new eyes.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

It’s out July 3rd in the US and August 9th in the UK. [Read more…]

Johnny Depp is set to play a scientist named Will, who attempts to create his own form of artificial intelligence by uploading his brain into a super-computer. Unfortunately there aren’t too many other details about the movie, and we don’t know who Clifton Collins Jr.’s will play.

Wally Pfister, who has served as cinematographer on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, is making his directorial debut, working from a screenplay by Jack Paglen. The film is due to start shooting in the next couple of months.

Cillian Murphy Finds Transcendence For Director Wally Pfister

April 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cillian-murphyWhile it’s not unusual for a director to cast the same actor in several movies, it’s easy to forget that there are a lot more people on a set who famous faces work with, and if those crew members turn director, they may also want to work with those actors again.

That’s certainly true of Wally Pfister, who’s been the cinematographer on the likes of The Dark Knight movies. He’s already cast Batman star Morgan Freeman in his directorial debut, Transcendence, and now Latino Review reports that he’s also signed up Batman Begins actor Cillian Murphy.

There aren’t too many details about the movie, although it’s about Will (Johnny Depp), a scientist who uploads his brain into a supercomputer to create artificial intelligence. Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara also star. There’s no news on who Murphy will play.

Jack Paglen wrote the script, with shooting due to kick off in the next couple of months.

Morgan Freeman Joins Johnny Depp In Transcendence

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

morgan-freemanChristopher Nolan likes to have wise old men in his movies. The Dark Knight films had two of them in the form of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Now the cinematographer of Dark Knight, Wally Pfister has decided he needs a wide old man, so he’s reuniting with Morgan Freeman for Transcendence, according to Variety, joining Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara.

There aren’t too many details about the movie, although it’s about Will (Johnny Depp), a scientist who uploads his brain into a supercomputer to create artificial intelligence. We’re imaging Freeman will be offering advice and suggesting that perhaps Will’s plan isn’t a great idea.

Principal photography is set to begin in May in Los Angeles, with an April 25th, 2014 release set.

The Lone Ranger International Trailer – Exploding even bigger in Japanese

March 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The voiceover and text in this new international trailer might be in Japanese, but you don’t really need to translate special effects and explosions, so it’s definitely worth taking a look.

There’s plenty of new footage to give us a taste of the big budget take on the classic western.

Rebecca Hall Joins Johnny Depp & Paul Bettany In Transcendence

March 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebecca-hallLast week Johnny Depp confirmed his involvement in Dark Knight cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence, and an April shoot start was set. That means Pfister hasn’t got much time to get everything ready, so he’s now busy filling out the cast.

Paul Bettany signed up last week and now Collider reports that Rebecca Hall (The Town) is also set to star in the movie. It won’t be her first time working with Pfister, as he was the cinematographer on The Prestige, which Hall starred in.

The screenplay, written by Jack Paglen, is still wrapped in secrecy. However, it’s rumored that the film is about a group of scientists experimenting with the idea of the technological singularity – the moment where a computer becomes so advanced that it begins to learn on its own and no longer needs an operator. There’s no news on who any of the actors will play.

The film is currently set for release on April 25th, 2014.
